The 2013 Confederations Cup Thread

Have been looking forward to this, especially with the interest that we have with two players participating. (Gaston Ramirez and Maya Yoshida, Tadanari Lee didn't make the Japan squad sadly.) Full Squad Lists here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2013_FIFA_Confederations_Cup_squads

The representatives from Oceania, Tahiti stand out as the underdogs, therefore I would love to see them surprise a very people. With all but one of their squad playing in Tahiti itself it will be unlikely.

Group A does look particularly tasty, with no USA around this time I fancy Mexico as a dark horse, saw their Olympic team in Coventry last year and they were superb. Not surprised to see Brazil as favourites, particularly at home, but with a weaker group and Brazil's squad really not being up to the standard of past greats I can't look past the Spaniards. It should therefore be Spain + One other from group B, fingers crossed Gaston can show why we put 12 million down for him and get the Uruguayans into the semi finals.

Odds:

Brazil, 7/5

Spain, 13/8

Italy, 6/1

Uruguay, 10/1

Mexico, 12/1

Nigeria, 25/1

Japan, 33/1

Tahiti, 1500/1

Fixtures:

Group A

15/6: Brazil 3-0 Japan, Maya Yoshida played the full 90 minutes.

16/6: Mexico 1-2 Italy

19/6: Brazil v Mexico, 8pm

19/6: Italy v Japan, 11pm

22/6: Italy v Brazil, 8pm

22/6: Japan v Mexico, 11pm

Group B:

16/6: Spain 2-1 Uruguay, Gaston Ramirez played the first half.

17/6: Tahiti v Nigeria, 8pm

20/6: Spain v Tahiti, 8pm

20/6: Nigeria v Uruguay, 11pm

23/6: Nigeria v Spain, 8pm

23/6; Uruguay v Tahiti, 11pm

Semi Final 1: 26/6, 8pm

Semi Final 2: 27/6, 8pm

Third Place Playoff: 30/6, 5pm

Final: 30/6, 8pm

All matches are on BBC 3 or BBC 1 for some of the later kick offs.

I was just about to post this. There will be bigger clubs going for him no doubt, but surely worth a go. Maybe Cortese can work his magic!

Think he wants to play in PL, would fit in with our other Japanese imports, and would be perfect financially and big on the marketing scale.

I swear Yoshida has managed to pick out more passes in this game then he did throughout the whole of last season! His distribution has been outstanding.

That's exactly what I thought...I swear he's never distributed the ball as well for us, as he has tonight!

I think he's had a pretty good game to be honest. Looks very comfortable at that level

Maybe this is just a reflection on the lower tempo of international football?

But, yes, Maya has looked utterly superb. He is utterly at home at this level of the game.

Sod the Japs, any Brazilians we can snatch?..I see that Paulinho scored again, he still playing in Brazil? Looked handy v England.

Prob spurs bound.

In all honesty though the japs were poor, Brazil look a shadow of the team that won the WC in 02.

Definately missing a solid frontman since Pato nosedived. And they definately dont seem so strong in DM.

3-0

Jo of all people scored it on the counter attack. Sadly, Maya was caught sleeping for it, Jo just ran past him.

True but bare in mind Yoshida had played 90 minutes against one of the best attacking teams in the world in their own back yard. He had a tough game, the game was lost and he was probably knackered. Jo had fresh legs, a point to prove and was fighting for a place in the squad. Yoshi's positioning and movement was okay, Jo just had an extra yard of pace on him.

Watched the game and listened to the biased pro-Brazil commentary. The viewers heard that Oscar plays for Chelsea and that a Liverpool player hadn't been selected. Heard no mention of Yoshida being a Saints' player. Usual TV approach of assuming the viewers are only interested in a few teams.

True, but such a pity all the same.

Not sure where you watched it. Heard a few mentions of Yoshida, Southampton, and that he had a pretty good first debut season in the PL etc.

just like the almost non existent reports on our signing. We were the only prem team to have signed someone yesterday, yet they stay go on and on and on talking about the same 4-5 clubs

didn't matter anyway. Whole thing looks like a bit of a chore to the Japanese, they've qualified for the WC already, don't think they're interested overmuch in the CC. Think they've only got 2 Japan based played in their squad, all the rest play in Europe and look ****ged out, Japan one day, Jordan a few days later then Brazil, whereas Brazil they've played 2 home friendlies. Japan didn't look any worse than the French against Brazil, in fact probably a bit better.
