Minty Posted 19 June, 2013 Share Posted 19 June, 2013 As much as I agree that our start is 'easier' on paper than last years, we really mustn't get into that kind of frame of mind IMO. We won't be a surprise to teams this year, and everyone's expectations will have increased, not least our own as this thread shows. I can't wait but it won't be easy. Hatch Posted 19 June, 2013 Share Posted 19 June, 2013 you got to feel for Norwich last four games Liverpool Man Utd Chelsea Arsenal. Now that is tough
Saint Garrett Posted 19 June, 2013 Share Posted 19 June, 2013 It's a much better spread of fixtures than last season, first 7 games are all very winnable. Could be vital in setting us up for the rest of the season to avoid the panic of last season Sent from my HTC One S using Tapatalk 2 The worrying thing is if we have a 'standard' Saints start, and don't pick up many points. Then we'll be going into the tougher fixtures needing results. Lets hope that those days are long gone !
tajjuk Posted 19 June, 2013 Share Posted 19 June, 2013 Man United could possible only get 3 points from their first 5 matches. Yep tough Chelsea, Liverpool and City in the first 5, the natives might get restless. Happy with ours, only away to Utd and Pool are tough in the first 10, it's pretty much the opposite to what we had last year. No excuses for a slow start, this place will go into meltdown if we don't pick up some decent points from that lot.

Then we'll be going into the tougher fixtures needing results. Lets hope that those days are long gone ! Yep, all very winnable, but also the type of games we often fall short on. Last season 4 points from the 1st 10 games wasn't seen as the end of the world due to the difficult fixtures, but god forbid we are in the bottom 3 after this little lot at the start. Wet fanny's and bed wetting will be the order of the day !! Might as well write off WBA as we don't do 1st game of the season wins, and beware I'm hoping to be able to get tickets for WHU H and Liverpool A so wipe those two off as well, not looking so rosy now is it!! Hatch Posted 19 June, 2013 Share Posted 19 June, 2013 The Cardiff home game in April will be re-arranged, what with us being in the Cup semi final and all.

Saint Garrett Posted 19 June, 2013 Share Posted 19 June, 2013 Although our start is relatively easy, how many points did we get from those fixtures last season? Exactly. We'll be a better more experienced side next season though, and hopefully Pochettino will have got his system across to the players more over pre season. stevegrant Posted 19 June, 2013 Share Posted 19 June, 2013 Although our start is relatively easy, how many points did we get from those fixtures last season? First 10 games, with corresponding scores from last season: West Brom (A) - L 0-2 Sunderland (H) - L 0-1 Norwich (A) - D 0-0 West Ham (H) - D 1-1 Liverpool (A) - L 0-1 Crystal Palace (H) - (as lowest-placed promoted team, swap for bottom PL team, QPR) L 1-2 Swansea (H) - D 1-1 Man United (A) - L 1-2 Fulham (H) - D 2-2 Stoke (A) - D 3-3 P10 W0 D5 L5. Not great, to say the least.

NickG Posted 20 June, 2013 Share Posted 20 June, 2013 Hasnt it been confirmed to be Arsenal ? I think the fixture list is a set-up. All the big 6 get an easy early run to provide as tight (and entertaining) top-of-the-table as possible, and to allow the CL teams to come up to speed for that competition. Remember our first 10 games last season ? Expect something similar next season. Anyone remeber Wengers whine in a press conference about 10-odd years ago ? David Seaman came on and said it was cobblers. Man u interesting start for new era..first 5 games, Chelsea, Man C, Liverpool, Got to admire his consistency when confidently being wrong all of the time. ericofarabia Posted 20 June, 2013 Share Posted 20 June, 2013 Although our start is relatively easy, how many points did we get from those fixtures last season? From The Echo .......... However, before euphoria takes a grip too much, we should also remember that Saints failed to beat any of their first four opponents – West Brom, Sunderland, Norwich and West Ham – over the eight matches they had with them home and away last season. Out of the 24 points available against those clubs, Saints picked up four. Well, lets hope we improve on that poor return!!
