Classic OldNick garbage there.

He's funding the Skates! He's funding the Skates!

In other news, no he isn't.

sharing training facilities will no doubt help them financially, I did not say he was funding them per say. He was also having a pop at the new set up at Saints, as a loyal person to the club of my choice I will stand up and defend it.Bransgrove came across as a 'woman scorned' and either through ignorance or batting for the wrong side. I suspect he would not honour or fawn anyone ex-player who had gone against him in the press or financially.

You are just an angry individual who's smitten on being bitter. In all the years of your posts i have never seen a post with any humour or even civility, im happy being me however wrong i maybe at times, you can keep carrying your flag of bitterness.

Rod does have a little bit of a point re: Saints but he's got to be joking re: the skates. Kanu the FA Cup winner got treated really well didn't he? Sol, the guy that lifted that tainted Cup? The local SMEs? The alleged £60m in unpaid taxes?

Besides which, Saints have never consistently looked after our heroes well, especially in the Askham years and either have the skates. In fact, that goes for most clubs, English football ignored Bobby Moore for years. That said, Franny and MLT, whilst they are heroes of mine, are worth far more than people like Ron Davies and Bobby Stokers were at the end of their careers so it's all relative.

Can't see it affecting gates that much as people either want to watch the cricket or not and can't see Hants fans decamping enmasse to Hove given the rivalrly but it could off-pitch income streams like merchandising.

I'm struggling to get myself worked up over this. He makes a valid point about the way Le Tiss and Co. have been treated but the comments about the Skates are a bit odd. I mean they're probably the best example this country has ever seen of how not to run a football club.

P.s. His daughter is incredibly fit.

If he was a genuine Saints supporter...

He's not, he's a Spurs fan.

Rod used to have a table in one of our suites (Mick Channon I think) in the early days at St.Mary's, and as a Hampshire resident and local business owner enjoyed watching the Saints (even though we weren't his team).

2 of his closest friends are Benali and Le Tiss, and since their relationships have soured with the club, Rod has distanced himself from the club a little and not attended games.

It's a complete non-story really, he simply doesn't attend Saints games anymore as a result, and upon questioning has voiced his disappointment in the clubs treatment towards them.

It seems most of us would agree with his thoughts too.

Just a shame he mentioned P*mpey as a shining example of how it should be done! ;)

That's right. It's me who is bitter and unfunny.

Coming from a man who won't stop bleating about how Pompey have "got away with it". And, only the other day was prattling on about how "this is a womans world".

Yeah. Definitely me what's bitter.

Out of curiosity, do you know if he has purchased a £1000 share in the Skates, as implied by the linked article on the prior page?

http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/cricket/cricket-chief-wants-to-join-forces-with-pompey-1-5161966

Rod Bransgrove wants Hampshire Cricket Club and Pompey to join forces.

The Hampshire chairman was in contact with the board members of the Pompey Supporters’ Trust throughout their takeover of the club.

He was later invited to Fratton Park as a guest of Blues chairman Iain McInnes for the final home game of last season against Sheffield United.

That convinced Bransgrove to stump up for his own share in the club.

He is also eager to cement a new relationship between the sporting bodies in a bid to share knowledge and pool some of their resources.

That includes the possibility of sharing training facilities in the future.

Bransgrove explained: ‘I have been speaking to Iain McInnes for some time about establishing closer links between the clubs. It’s an exciting development.

‘We spoke quite a lot during the administration period and passed on a few of our own experiences and talked about ways to forge stronger links.

‘We need to embrace our local sports clubs and make more of the fact that we have a real sporting pedigree around our area.

‘I really like the ownership model at Pompey and for the fans to own their club is a fantastic opportunity. I will be buying a share myself very soon and I have a real soft spot for Pompey now.

‘Iain invited me down and I was knocked out by the crowd they had for that last game of the season against Sheffield United. It was close to a full house for a team that had already been relegated and the atmosphere was sensational.

‘There was a real feel-good factor.

‘If we get that kind of passionate support down to the Ageas Bowl, we would be laughing!

‘But we are looking at things like crossovers between season tickets and membership.

‘And there are a few other things in the pipeline, which I can’t comment on at the moment.’

Bransgrove, a Spurs fan from his youth, previously had close ties with Southampton in his role at Hampshire.

But those links are no more after he became disillusioned at the treatment of some of Saints’ former figures by the St Mary’s regime.

‘I haven’t been to St Mary’s for a long time,’ said Bransgrove.

‘I don’t want to make a big issue out of it but I don’t feel inclined to go when some of the club’s greatplayers and managers have become virtually ostracised – people like Francis Benali, Matt Le Tissier and Lawrie McMenemy.

‘I don’t feel comfortable about that. I think clubs should embrace their history and embrace the people who made their history.

‘That is what sports clubs are about and I think the PST totally understand that. We are all guardians of our clubs for the future generations.’

My own opinion for what it's worth (not much I know) is that if he wants to join in the banter then let him buy a season ticket and sit in the stands with the rest of the punters. If he wants to be chairman he needs to keep his gob shut.

If you knew him well like I do you would not make that comment.

As I am told he is not really a Saints fan......He is welcome to Pompey as they are to him.

My opinion that he is a prat maybe a little harsh.....but would be said to you or my own brothers...if you carried the same words and action in relation to Pompey....

His choice/money and my own opinion of him and his course of action....

Good for him what he has done for Hants cricket and charities.....BUT I draw the conclusion like others ...silly little boyz playing silly lettle boyz games...

It's a strange thing for Bransgrove to do, after all this part of Hampshire is the core of the supporter base and always will be. It's the heart of the county too.

We don't want Skates going to the Rose Bowl, they can stay in their own little ****pit corner of Hampshire.

I agree with him that clubs should embrace their history though. The cult might not like it but he has a point in that respect.

He has no 'point' at all. He is propped up Eastleigh Borough Council which is a disgrace. He should keep

It shut - its none of his business....

Lol ! Youre so desperate to make yourself a Hampshire ITK. Ive met him as well as and hes done wonders for our Cricket Club but he is far too influenced by the Saints "legends" that hang around at the Ageas Bowl.

I had the misfortune to be present when Lawrie McMoneybags was slagging Cortese and the set up at Southampton surrounded by by Bransgrove and assorted *cough* local dignitaries. They were all laughing along with Mr Sunderland so no wonder Bransgrove holds such out of touch opinions.

Yep. The local "business community" enjoyed a lot of access and freebies (directors box invites etc) in the Askham and Lowe years. NC has slammed the door shut on those and funnily enough they don't like him.

Nail on head.

“With regards to Portsmouth FC, Hampshire Cricket has found it difficult, in the past, to establish the same sort of relationship that it has enjoyed with SFC but, after a series of meetings between myself and Iain McKinnis [Chairman Elect of PFC], this is now a distinct possibility.

You'd think that after this series of meetings with the Pompey Chairman Elect, Bransgrove would at least have learned to spell the bloke's name.

Following certain comments which have been printed in the local media over the last week, Hampshire Cricket Chairman Rod Bransgrove would like to issue the following statement pertaining to the Club’s relationships with Southampton Football Club [sFC] and Portsmouth Football Club [PFC]:

“Before I begin, it is important to stress that Hampshire Cricket has always, and will always, welcome supporters of all other sports clubs – including those from Southampton FC and Portsmouth FC. It is in the interests of the Club to establish and maintain good working relationships with other local sports businesses in order to explore mutual opportunities.

“Historically, we have enjoyed an excellent relationship with SFC and we are keen to pursue and develop this moving forward. Indeed, many of my personal friends are former Saints players and administrators and I, myself, have followed the club since I moved to the area in the 1980s.

“My unguarded comments about the circumstances that some of these friends find themselves in were not intended to be a criticism of SFC management. They were intended to explain why I have not visited St Mary’s Stadium so frequently during the past season. I enjoy seeing these friends at football matches and my preference is for sports clubs to embrace their past and maintain strong links with their history and the people who made it.

“With regards to Portsmouth FC, Hampshire Cricket has found it difficult, in the past, to establish the same sort of relationship that it has enjoyed with SFC but, after a series of meetings between myself and Iain McInnes [Chairman of PFC], this is now a distinct possibility.

“We, therefore, welcomed the news that PFC had emerged from Administration and with an ownership model which provides participation for its supporters. It is important to the well-being of the area, generally, that all of our sporting businesses do well.

“In the next few days, Hampshire Cricket will be announcing a partnership with Portsmouth FC that gives their season-ticket holders a discount on a five-match ‘passport’ to see all of the Hampshire Royals’ home Friends Life t20 fixtures this season. It is an offer we have extended to Southampton FC and very much hope they will take us up on.

“Furthermore, with both Clubs, we hope this deal will be just the start of a number of exciting initiatives we will jointly explore moving forward.”

“Any inference that I am personally relinquishing my support of SFC for PFC is ludicrous. I wish both clubs well for the forthcoming season and am delighted that the circumstances for both clubs now are very good.

“Personally, I grew up in London as a Spurs supporter in the 1960s. My father was an Arsenal supporter – but I never held that against him! Local rivalries are a part of the fun of sport. As is the case with cricket, football is only a game”

This.

Personally, I couldn't give a flying f*ck what he says or does, having precisely zero interest in cricket. The skates are welcome to him.
