It is likely to be a reference to this which the Daily Mail overlooks...

Even though Adkins didn't actually write the message and it was from before he was sacked.

half (or even 3 quarters) of a PL side got us 2 back to back promotions...very little to do with Adkins.

ERR QPR had in theory an almost Championship league side! didn't do them much good last year. Yes you need a good side but you also need a good team, good tactics, and play the right systems. nigel played as important if not more important part than the players in our rise and this must not be forgotten or dissmissed even though he has moved on!

Cheesy fipchart yes but good luck to him!

Not really three quaters based on the sides we put out season just gone. And not much different to most teams that get promoted to the Prem.

They've even go their own Hooper rumour to keep them going over the summer...

http://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/405391/EXCLUSIVE-Reading-boss-Nigel-Adkins-in-hunt-for-Celtic-hitman-Gary-Hooper

[h=3]READING manager Nigel Adkins has asked his board to cough up the cash for Celtic hitman Gary Hooper.[/h]The Royals boss wants to team up again with his former S****horpe United strikericon1.png at the Madjeski Stadium.

He has given a list of summer targets to Reading’s owner, Russian billionaire Anton Zingarevich, and the 31-goal Hoops frontman is right at the top of it.

Adkins made two bids for Hooper when he was manager of Southampton and now he wants the 25-year-old to spearhead Reading’s Championshipicon1.png title challenge – as they look to bounce back into the Premier League at the first time of asking.

What's the issue with this? He is positive and just wants to galvanise the supporters and keep everyone together after a relegation. Jesus, I find it embarrassing how quickly and strongly some of you had turned on a guy who did so much for us.

Exactly that. And many football fans have the cheek to moan about lack of loyalty from players and managers.

Sorry, come again?

Who other than Steven Davis and fox had premier league experience....

Lambert had never played above league 1, lallana and morgan had a handful of games at championship.

Hammond - league 1

Fonte - League 1

Jos - No english experience what so ever

I could go on...

what a joker... How you can slag the man off I will never know.

There is being positive and there is the frankly embarrassing **** above. It makes me laugh, but if that was my club I'd be cringing about what football fans around the country think about our club.

Secondly, the reason a lot of us turned was the fact that he was out of his depth, and demonstratably so by his team and tactics selections early in the Season.

I don't have anything wrong with that tbh. It's a bit cliche, but he's just trying to be positive. Reading have a team which is better than the one which got them promoted 12 months ago. If they hit the ground running then there is no reason why they won't win the league next season. I'd much rather be hearing that as a fan than..."I'm going to quit if I can't have x, y, and z"

And anyway, how can people not just appreciate a man who did so much for us and in such a great manor.

Good luck on the fourth point Nige. Reading have some of the worst fans in football. Somehow they have a majority fanbase that appear to me as though they attend games and then have a look on their face like they expected to see a different sport or something and then just sit there in silent bemusement win lose or draw.

It may be a tad cheesy but isn't that part of his appeal? I for one hope they absolutely romp the championship, and that Nigel has a long and successful career...

He had a massive impact on this club (surely no one will deny that), and he deserves a great reception when he (hopefully) returns with whatever club.

some royals fans are simply not sold on adkins.

to them, (or some) they have replaced a manager with one who finished below them in the league they are now back in.

Non story really I'm sure all clubs do the same thing. It's just that ours is getting more attention because Adkins is a bit of a smarmy ****

I find myself feeling a little sorry for you, that you feel embarassment at Adkins' positive, upbeat message to the Reading fans. As for you cringing at the thought of what other football fans around the country would be thinking about Reading, I very much doubt that most of them will give it a second thought.

And when you talk about "a lot of us" turning against him, I seem to recall that he had a satisfaction percentage rating on this forum well into the 90s, so don't try and make out that it was a significant body of opinion. You were in a small minority then, and I have no reason to believe that you will be in a larger body of opinion here. As far as I'm aware, neither you nor those others you speak of have conclusive knowledge of the reasons for his team selections or for the tactical changes.

As Reading are not competitors of ours this season, I wish Adkins every success. If anybody can get them back to the Premiership, he can.

Amen to that.

I suspect this has more to do with Reading's feeble marketing department seeking to 'cash in ' on 'nice bloke Nigel' , than anything to do with NA himself to be honest.

Agree, wish NA every success.

Also expect him to prove NC wrong in the long run.

No surprise that Cortese let him go if this is the sort of thing he wanted to do. Makes them look like such a mickey mouse club.

Seconded.

I just don't understand why some people are so miserable.

Oh noes, what will people think of our club?

F()cking hell, I'd be more embarrassed by some of the comments on here than someone who done a fantastic job for us, got us playing some of the best football in years and has rightly or wrongly, moved onto Reading and is now trying to be a success there.

Do people really care if he'd done that at Saints? I don't, not a jot. What's with all all this rubbish about trying to look cool in front of your peers but because your manager done something remotely cheesy, you now can't look them in the eye?

Grow up you fannies.

That makes some sense, and is also why I thought Adkins should have waited for Stoke, because if he doesn't take them back up he might as well have not got us promoted either as far as his career goes. He should have stuck it out for a lower half Prem club.

As far as the statement goes, that's Adkins, don't expect him to say any more than he has to in a press conference and do expect rampant positivity. I am absolutely astonished that people on here are rewriting history like he wasn't a superb manager for us getting back to the Prem.

Wes Tender - great response. NA should be lauded for what he achieved here, not denigrated with snidey comments. His positivity is fantastic and what on earth is wrong with what he wrote/said.....in fact it is quite motivational and, no doubt as it has come from NA, heartfelt.
