Lee is on 18k a week I think they said at his recent court case. Would expect Sharp is on 25k or so after being bumped up following promotion. Crazy amounts really.

Bloody hell, even more than I thought. That's the thing with successive promotions though, we've got a lot of players on our books who will not be of premier league standard earning decent money who won't get that sort of payday again.

Yes, and the extra income offsets it. By end of this season all those players will be completely off the books too.

Aha :http://www.gillinghamfootballclub.com/news/article/martins-message-may-7-811614.aspx

"Tommy Forecast will also be offered a deal as he has been given a free transfer by Southampton.

Dated 7th May, though pretty sure we knew about it before that.

Being offered a deal is not the same as signing, so don't think he has signed yet. Might happen now that he is officially released. A day to savour. He is probably just waiting to see if he gets a call from Mourinho before agreeing a contract with the Gills.

Be careful that you actually GET those more qualified and skillful players next season before you offload talent. I'd hate to see the club get rid of players and then be outbid in the transfer market...resulting in no new faces and missing the old faces just for depth.

Forecast is not even out of contract, he signed a deal with Gillingham a couple of months ago. I don't think we'd have kept Bale if he hadn't come to us, do you ? /QUOTE]

no sadly I agree with you, but it irks a bit to think that having been screwed on that deal, and look what we didn't get out of him in return...not even one league game in 5 years.

worst deal since we sold Martin Chivers to Spuds ...for a (then) record fee (1967).... .and got Frank Saul in return

Sorry but there is no comparison - Frank Saul though no superstar was not that bad a player.... Where as Forcast was a complete misfit.......

While we are at it if we are having high expectations at this club Fox cannot play even once next year so he needs to be shipped out pronto too...

The tough side of the job - telling someone they dont fit into your plans because they are not good enough, and need to move on.

I wish them all well, for some particular reason I feel strongest about Butterfield who didnt do much wrong, imo.

As for the other candidates for departure, I would have misgivings about Sharp and Chaplow until I see who is coming in; I still think they wouldnt let us down if called upon.

This stuff is part of the game, and all parties know about it, but it must still be hard to take...

Can anyone find a video of Dickson's assist for the first goal against Leyton Orient on the 9th of april 2011? I can't remember it in much detail, but I just mentally marked is as the assist of the season - would be nice to see it again...

I know, I actually said that.

slight misundestanding here.

I don't disagree with that comment Forecast was not signed as a first choice keeper, but 5 years with no apps. is a joke ! + Does anyone don't know what he was valued at in the cash + deal (for Bale). I'm sure we got screwed on that part, too.

Frank Saul (?) ...OK not a " bad player" but he was never a regular with Spuds and got his " reputation " from his Cup Final goal. The (young) Mick Channon was our new rising star then, and Frank never got a look-in, and rarely looked "interested "

Considering that we'd sold Martin Chivers for a record sum (then) £125K......Saul never got a regular spot with Saints and his goals record was pretty appauling (considering who had had replaced).....and £40 K was still fairly big money in those days.

His goals /games ...ONLY 2 League goals in 49 starts, perhaps only his 6 goals in 8 Cup games gave his record even mild respectability. Might have been a nice guy and all that, but typical of a London "star" who didn't like the South and wanted back " home ".

....as for your comment on Fox....(don't disagree with that either) .I don't get heart attacks about him anymore, but I check my blood pressure - if his name turns up on the team sheet.

Not sure when it happened but the OS squad list has recently been updated to add back in many of the returning loan players. Interesting points to note are that Sharp, Martin and Chaplow are all still missing (deals already done for them perhaps?) and that, of last season's U21s, Corby Moore, Jake Sinclair, Andy Robinson, Dom Gape and Lloyd Isgrove are now showing in the First Team list (though also in the U21 or U18 list as well). It may perhaps be that the first team list is simply showing any U21 who was given a squad number last season (each of these was) or it could indicate a promotion for next season.

EDIT: All three now added to OS squad list which now appears to be complete - for now.

reeves and Hoskins is a werid one thought they had good talent. the others were always going to happen

Just to revisit this thread briefly, I also thought that it was sad that we were releasing Reeves and Hoskins. I remember in particular Hoskins work-rate when he came on as a sub for what must have been his first team debut last season (away at Forest if my memory serves me right - but don't quote me on it!)

My surprise at the sale of Hoskins was compounded this evening when I noticed that he had won the U21 goal of the season award at this year's awards dinner. Here's the video of the goal that won him this award:

Crazy amounts bearing in mind Sharp's important goals that got us to the Premier League ahead of schedule? Remind me, what was promotion worth and more importantly what is Premier League status worth this season.

I call that a bloody good investment, but then I'm not distracted by large numbers.
