Yes, a mix of professionals who have served the club well in previous seasons and up-and-coming potential. Yet, as we are now a Premier League club, its a high step up and the club have to consider whether these 'seedlings' will be ready for the Premier League soon (extend their contracts and play them in the U21), and that decision is 'no'. Wish them all well.

reeves and Hoskins is a werid one thought they had good talent. the others were always going to happen

Most likely that both will get opportunities in the lower leagues and may well work their way back into it.

Will definitely need to bring in some defenders over the close season, as that now leaves us very thin on the ground at the back, Seaborne, Butterfield & Richardsson were our limited depth in that department.

but the fact that we played Maya at RB instead of relying on Richardson tells you all you need to know. We couldn't rely on any of them because they would just have been ridiculised in the PL.

Not sure why people are surprised by Reeves. Decent player, but he's over 20 now and if he was going to make it in the PL with us, eh'd have needed to make more of an impact here...and at the club's he's been on loan at. He'll be a star in L2 if played regular, can see him going there.

Imagine there are also a hell of a lot of players who are told they are free to look for another club (Chaplow/Hammond/Sharp/De Ridder/Barnard) to name but a few, I reckon we'll see a few mutual terminations this year as well. We've got so much deadwood in this squad, mainly because we've progressed so quickly, players bought a year or so ago to do a job are now never going to get a look in! Doesn't mean they're bad players...just not for our level anymore.

Good list, best move Chambers into midfield though.

All of our 2014 over 21 players will be out on loan or leaving during the forthcoming season IMHO

Unlikely that any of Martin, Hammond, Chaplow, Guly, De Ridder, Lee, Barnard and Forte will feature in more than 2 games in the Prem next season.*

*brought to you by the man that gave you "Sharp will outscore Lambert in the Prem last season".

Agreed - I think we'd be looking at clearing 15-16 players off the books.

We'll probably loan a few few out - Think I'm right in saying that since Cortese came in, we've actually only sold 2 players. (Ox & Harding)

Why? He has been playing at right back for Saints and England for quite a while now.

Was a central midfielder the only time he played for the first team this season, and that's all I've got to go on.

at last .....Forecast is out of contract....was there ever a bigger waste of money? ....reminds me of that old WW2 film " the Man who never was " ....we were really conned on that one ...and lost Bale , too.

good comments - (you got there before me).....but players on this list are unlikely to be " released " but perhaps... we may be open to offers for them? .....otherwise they'll be out on loan for the season.

Forecast is not even out of contract, he signed a deal with Gillingham a couple of months ago.

I don't think we'd have kept Bale if he hadn't come to us, do you ?

We'll sell any of the 2014 players except Shaw, if they can agree terms. Expecting a fair few of them to have gone back to the Championship by January, maybe later for Barnard and Forte who probably won't come close to their current wages anywhere else at the moment.

no sadly I agree with you, but it irks a bit to think that having been screwed on that deal, and look what we didn't get out of him in return...not even one league game in 5 years.

worst deal since we sold Martin Chivers to Spuds ...for a (then) record fee (1967).... .and got Frank Saul in return

80 million less 10 million we received by 25% (the reported sell on,) that's an 18million windfall we're missing out on... Thanks a bunch whoever set up that one.

Feature in even 2 games between the lot of them requires some serious imagination. The whole pack of them minus Guly will feature in about zero'ish PL games.

You have removed the one player that is likely to feature in order to make your point fit...

it's always difficult when they reach that age, and still haven't made a breakthrough into the first team......

you want to feel that if we only kept them for... another year ...or maybe two, then they MIGHT make it....it rarely happens.

Their CV s will look good as a (former) Saints Academy player, and they might well get a career at L1 / L2 level, and - if they're lucky, their new club(s) might get a promotion.

on the other hand ...if they score 20 goals a piece next season ...then we got it wrong, but I doubt if that will be the case, but good luck to Ben and Sam, anyway.

Problem is most are on relatively very good money with us, they don't want to give up their contracts before they have to.

Did he? I think he was offered a contract at Gillingham. He won't have signed yet. Could be wrong.

Can't actually find anything confirming it, won't take effect until July 1 so logical he won't have signed, but I'd be surprised if he sat around waiting for any other offers after that...

Maybe that's why we should have a B Team playing in the lower leagues - made up mostly of u23s but the odd 24 & 25 year old. That way they get game time but also premier league coaching and maybe a bit more time to mature and make that break through.

The Football League would never agree to such a move.

The lower tiers of English football are stronger than any other country, we have professional teams in the 5th tier getting gates of nearly 6k! That would be unheard of anywhere else in the world. The Football League wouldn't welcome large numbers of B teams of Premier League clubs taking up space in the league system, plus it would actually be hard for any B side to compete with some of the large Football League sides in the same way they do in Spain for example.

Anyone with a good guess what these released 8 would have had in monthly wages all together?

With promotion bonus and rises I'd hazard a guess that the top 4 are on £10-£15k a week. Remember that Dickson couldn't get a loan move away at the start of the season as the club in question couldn't afford his wages. Richardson and Butterfield were proven championship players so would have joined in championship wages and no doubt got an increase on promotion. Seaborne was said to be on £6k a week when he had his incident, so id put him on about £10k with his promotion increase. I doubt the bottom four are on much though. Even so you're probably taking between £50k-£80k a week for all of them.

Cheers, sounds very likely to me and probably on the higher half of 50-80k I would think.

I guess we´ll free up more money when we´re getting some of the others sold. Like Hammond, Sharp, Chaplow and the likes. Still a big squad and need to get another 6-8 players out and 4-6 of better quality in before the squad is of a more healthy size.

Yep, I'd agree with that. Hammond, Lee, De Ridder, Sharp, Barnard, Chaplow will all also be on the £10-£15k mark and won't play any part whilst we are in the premier league. That's another £50-£90k a week we could do with losing. We've probably been paying out over £100k a week in wages this season on players that have hardly had a kick, that's not including Forren and Mayuka.

Lee is on 18k a week I think they said at his recent court case. Would expect Sharp is on 25k or so after being bumped up following promotion. Crazy amounts really.

True, I wonder what the deals have been on the loans.

If we´ve paid a part of the wages still or if the clubs that took them on loan has paid full wages for them...

And as you said, better have one contributing player on 50-60k instead of 8 not participating.

Lee is on a lot more than that; there was some article last season that suggested he was on around £25K a week. With promotion bonus, God only knows how much of his current wage we're contributing to. Hopefully we haven't had to contribute too much to the wages of the others we have had out on loan.
