did no one read the report? He's a midfielder

This is a dream come true, and something I’ve worked really hard for over the last few years,” said the promising midfielder.

Heh, thanks.

Couldn't see it for looking!

Been about a bit for someone so young... Parents living abroad etc... shows he has the mental stuff and sounds committed which is a huge factor. Hope he flourishes and realises his dream of pulling on the famous Saints shirt!

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/94664/This-boy-is-so-un-Real.html

WONDERKID Niall Mason has been snapped up by soccer giants Real Madrid — at the age of SEVEN.

Niall and his family are quitting Britain to live in the Spanish capital so he can join a Real Madrid football school dedicated to producing the David Beckhams of the future.

His delighted dad Russell said last night: “It’s every father’s dream come true - I keep having to pinch myself.

“What more could a boy of that age want? It’s a tremendous opportunity with the most famous club in the world, It hasn’t sunk in yet.”

Maybe Pochettino was already aware of him given the Spanish connection?

probably not, I mean how long did he actually last at Real's well whatever it is for 7 year olds ?

Morgan was at Strasbourg at 5 and was still there when he was 18, plenty of other examples at Saints as well.

Fair point. When you get to my age one tends to lose all sense of time and logic :)

This signing is a real statement of intent.

yep, Nicola probably really had to employ himself to talk Mme Liebherr into releasing the funds to sign this wonder boy.Probably told him we had to release at least 4 of our other perennial will be a great player one day to finance it.

The Academy has such a good reputation that we should think of it as one would a prestigious university. Everyone wants to come here because they think they'll get a superb football education and a decent real education at the same time. Does not mean they intend to be a Saint or indeed ever put on a Saints shirt. Once they've graduated many will be off to the highest bidder like that little mercenary who now plays for Wenger & Hodgson.

I just don't buy in to a "Lancashire lad" wanting to play for Saints. ManU, yes; ManC, yes; Liverpool, yes; Everton, maybe... Saints? Oh come off it, pull the other one!

Welcome to Jimmy, the ****heroe Kid.

Should keep Alpine happy getting our business done early.

God sake, C L I T H E R O E

Went to a wedding up in Cumbria and went past the sign. I wondered if the town got its name from one resident bloke who was spectacularly gifted at pleasing the ladies.

This doesn't tie up for me....he signed for Madrid when he was 7 in 2007 according to the article, and so should be 13/14 now, not 16. Also this article: http://www.****heroeadvertiser.co.uk/sport/football/local-football/****heroe-pupil-earns-southampton-contract-1-5739313 mentions being from the Blackburn youth academy, but doesn't mention Madrid which is a bit odd...

Sure it's the same player?

Real Madrid don't think he is. Lack of ambition from us really.

His mother was born in India, and father came from USA .... seems fairly obvious that the family moved around with parents' international jobs ...doesn't mean Real rejected him, but I agree ....ending up in Blackburn doesn't sound very romantic -does it ?

To be fair Blackburn do have a decent academy set up. I'm not sure when he joined them but chances are they were a prem outfit when he did.
