Barry Sanchez Posted 18 July, 2013 Author Posted 18 July, 2013 All Utd and Arsenals signing are brilliant in their first season!? They can afford players to settle in as they have the required quality to stay in the premiership, taking a chance on a record signing who has not played here before is and was a huge gamble.
ottery st mary Posted 18 July, 2013 Posted 18 July, 2013 Gaston is pure class and hopefully will stay and be part of an ever improving Saints side..
NickG Posted 18 July, 2013 Posted 18 July, 2013 Wonder how many moaning saw him play, or just expected messi due to fee? Clearly very good player and probably very good signing. I was disappointed that he didn't perform as I expected after villa game. However think anyone who saw him realises talent we have. If he settles better he will do very well. Find it amazing how many don't understand that when you buy a young expensive player you are not paying that fee for one season! Not complicated fee is high due to ability, age and full international. Alex O-C was £15m, first season scored two goals in 16 games. Waste if money? In the 20 odd mins before sending off Gaston did more, of higher quality than rest put together.
OfnPanad Posted 19 July, 2013 Posted 19 July, 2013 Saw him against Villa at SMS and thought he was the second coming. Saw him against Tahiti for Uruguay and wondered if he has a twin who's a postman? Hot and cold - and obviously needs to be fitter. I'm not fussed either way really so I'll be happy with whatever decision the people who see him in training make.
wild-saint Posted 19 July, 2013 Posted 19 July, 2013 i dont like it when he is played out wide as his effectiveness is considerably reduced. in the 10 position with a relatively free role i think he has the potential to add some creative flair that teams struggle to cope with. Fulham away last season on boxing day was case in point, fairly ineffective first half out wide but a switch to a more central position changed the teams balance and we looked a far better side second half. my opinion is in a 10 position he has the talent to shine but is wasted in a wider role.
SW11_Saint Posted 19 July, 2013 Posted 19 July, 2013 Poor to mediocre. For that money he needs to buck up considerably; or if we get a decent enough offer possibly ship him out.
adrian lord Posted 19 July, 2013 Posted 19 July, 2013 (edited) Poor to mediocre. For that money he needs to buck up considerably; or if we get a decent enough offer possibly ship him out. He never looked like his heart was in it and his face just didn't fit at Saints. Visibly uncomfortable in the shirt. Edited 19 July, 2013 by adrian lord

Glasgow_Saint Posted 19 July, 2013 Posted 19 July, 2013 tancredipalmeri: Southampton couldn't find an agreement with Atletico Madrid to sell Ramirez Suggests it wasnt ruled out immediately?
Baldbarbarian Posted 19 July, 2013 Posted 19 July, 2013 Very frustrating player, flashes of brilliance but mostly just average. a lot of misplaced passes & wasted free kicks stick in my mind & then the sending off. I hope he does improve in the second season as we have had nowhere near value for money.
VectisSaint Posted 19 July, 2013 Posted 19 July, 2013 He never looked like his heart was in it and his face just didn't fit at Saints. Visibly uncomfortable in the shirt. Maybe he will find the Adidas fit is better than the Umbro.
Saint Charlie Posted 19 July, 2013 Posted 19 July, 2013 tancredipalmeri: Southampton couldn't find an agreement with Atletico Madrid to sell Ramirez Palmeri translates from Di Marzio, I would suggest the teams were the other way round, we didnt want to sell.
Lallana's Left Peg Posted 19 July, 2013 Posted 19 July, 2013 He isn't vital to the team yet, which is a shame considering his talent level and what he has shown in very minor glimpses. On that basis he isn't untouchable in terms of selling. That said, he is clearly worth a second season and the challenge is whether or not he fits how Pochettino likes to play the game. On the face of it he doesn't seem to fit. But on the other hand he is clearly a very talented player. There will have to be a compromise somewhere and it'll be interesting to see if it is Pochettino's or Ramirez's to make. I suspect the latter so we'll just have to see what happens in the first half of the season.
