Ramirez, his first season, how good has he been?

Are you all watching the correct player? I can't believe it... he's over-rated, a waste of money, too lightweight etc., blah blah blah.

Of course he's playing well, his wife likes living in Uraguay.

Watching the second half replay now, has been an impressive performance by Gaston. I just hope he can build his fitness base and perform consistently for us next season. He's shown glimpses of brilliance(Villa at home). If he can do that more often, we have a player that we could build a front four around. GASTON, Jay Rod, Rickie and one of Punch/Adam/S.Davis/new signing!? With Cork and Morgan sitting in front of Shaw, Clyne and hopefully a reliable CB pairing. There's something to get excited about.

Urugay's goal, Ramirez plays an excellent long pass to start the move

excellent but Deschamps helped by selecting a total oaf at CB just because he plays for Porto or Benfica or whatever it is, there are far better CBs than Mangala to choose from but unfortunately for them they don't play in the CL.

So long as they mean £18m not euros I'd be ok with that, not happy, I like Gaston, but a 50% profit on a player that hasn't had an amazing season is hard to turn down.

They presumably mean €18m, seeing as they quoted the purchase price as €14.4m.

Of course, I'm a bit disappointed, but it's fair to say there have been extenuating circumstances; not starting from day 1, family bereavement, illness etc. and moving to a new country, new culture/language can take some adjustment for a young man.

It's easy to praise foreign strikers who score with ease, but Prem. midfielders need a v.high standard of fitness and he has seldom lasted an entire match, and clearly is still trying to adapt to the rough and tumble of Prem.

He has shown some great touches and class movements and a couple of top class finishes. Inevitably the £12 million price tag has singled him out as someone who seems to be expected to play like a " Superman " ,

Cortese has a difficult decision here, and it's a sort of Catch 22 scenario. IF Ramirez wants a move back to one of the Italian clubs clammering for his signature, we'd certainly recoup the original fee - and probably a bit more.

On the other hand, if he grows in reputation and becomes really top class - then we were too impatient and will have lost a good player, (but at least he wouldn't be moving to another Prem.side)

IF he stays, and continues this "wayward " form then his worth to the team... and his fiscal valuation will drop and he'll just become another " wannabe " who didn't make the grade, and cost us a lot of money to find out.

Like everyone else, I'd like to see him perform brilliantly in the Prem, but somehow it's difficult to picture that just now. In the short term, the first option may be the best (for all concerned) and we can search for someone else with a better track record .

Just had similar to the news above on SSN who read it in the sun....

Ramirez set to snub interest from Italy after expressing a desire to play a part at the club that had faith in him.

Or words to that effect.

Surround him with class players like Banega and others on his wavelength and we'll see a vastly better player. Felt sometimes he was on a different page to the others last season and that made him look worse than he really was.

Love it when people try and excuse poor form with that of saying the other players weren't good enough to keep up with him.

I remember a team built around matt, he was on another level but still managed to perform.

A frustrating player, but one I'd like to persevere with.

Class is there, but all too often injured too easily or brushed off the ball. Will improve next year I'm sure.

It's quite telling though, have a watch of the our PL goals video from last year, it's like a Gaston montage. Sometimes it takes time to just have a look back and you realise, actually, he's pretty class.

Let's count ourselves lucky we even have a player of his ability.

depends on how MP wants to play and the money involved.

I can see us playing a 433 next season. move out ramirez and get in Banega (maybe)

throw in another striker, wide player and bobs your uncle
