Ramirez, his first season, how good has he been?

Barry Sanchez

Recommended Posts

Got told when I was in a Southampton Hotel a few weeks ago, can you tell me where she told you she loves it in this Country?

Cheers Ta.

Essruu works as a taxi driver. He does contracted work for the club, he regularly takes players and their dependants/relatives to airports and such. As such I am taking his word over your hotel based hear'say.

Sorry was that when Gaston Ramirez's wife said to the taxi driver how much she loves it in this Country?

No you only like things when you agree with them, when you dont you dismiss them, clever that.

There are, he does not want to be here and cant be arsed, how much is he on again? He only came for the money anyway, now he has that why play like he means it? Well I suppose to earn a transfer somewhere, but he has to play well for that, so maybe he will just sit on his arse.

This statement shows your ignorance, whilst he;s had mixed performances he's always worked hard, in fact in some games he ran himself into the ground.

Ask Essruu... as I said, I believe him more credible then you. You may be forwarding on information that you have received in good faith, good for you if so. I still will not give it credence though.

Why do people respond to threads like this. Its been done so many times already and no one has anything new to say. Gaston is undoubtedly a good player. Probably the most talented at the club. The fact that he has not won everyone over yet is not in dispute. We'll see in a couple of months how he fits into the new look team

BS in agenda ridden thread, just dismissing every decent point put across.

For me, 6 out of 10. Well worth keeping hold of for next season as with a full, uninterrupted pre-season I can see him being instrumental for us.

Btw, how come after Dune got banned he was allowed back on the board as this moron? Mods?

for the same reason they are now allowing tdd to post as batman I guess

Very strange.

Baz, do us all a favour and shut the **** up.

I would try and reason but you will just dismiss it out of hand.

If you really dislike the Saints squad and players, don't pay to watch them. Find a stream, or something.

But don't preach like the almighty to us mere mortals.

Barry Sanchez, his first season, how good has he been?

i think he is been v.good! I would give him 9/10! He is up there with MR07 imo for quality first season, I only knock Barry Sanchez one point cos he never met Kelvin Davis at waitrose or wherever.

Interesting that based on the appraisal of Ramirez, presumably alpine would have also sold James Beattie, Adam Lallana, Andrew Surman and Morgan Schneiderlin...

Tbf he is consistent! Sxchneiderlin also written off as "powder puff" waste of money. And Jay Rod.

I was disappointed in Ramirez's season - possibly our best player but hasn't performed as such.

Villa game, and odd parts of games he suggests head and shoulders above the rest of our squad.

Wenger said if he gets anything out of a young foreign player in first season it is a bonus - hopefully that is the case here.

Thought in WBA game he was the only player making things happen, determined skilful play - unfortunately his determination did make something happen!

Dead ball use hasn't been good enough.

Wonder how we would do with him playing behind Jay-Rod? Could be future option.

Not worried about fee - he doesn't have to justify it in one season (unless leaving on a free).

When hear he is starting adds to my excitement at St Marys.

Still young, younger that Clyne/ Jay Rod - years younger than

Personally i think he was a waste of money.and think there is probably a more solid, hard working midfielder out there WITH more experience of the prem league at half the price. i say sell him, cut our losses, and bring in someone tried an tested, with a cheaper wage demand. just my opinion tho :) COYR!

In what is quickly becoming a Barry vs SWF thread, I am not looking to take sides nor endorse anyone's forum merits but I do have to say that messieurs Sanchez and Alpine are 100% right!! Ramirez has been p*ss poor this season and I for one couldn't care less to see him sold in the summer! Just take a moment before you start calling me 'dune' and laying into me by considering this hypothetical scenario:

1) He didn't cost £12m (say £5m)...

2) He isn't a full international...

3) Most importantly that YOUTUBE VIDEO that had our mouths watering last summer never existed...

Just a promising young Uruguayan from SerieA Saints snapped up last summer, and he puts in those exact performances we've seen him put in all year. What would we all think then???

Yup, not even worth the £5m we supposedly paid. Time to take off our red and white tinted glasses and see things as they really are. Ramirez has been SH*TE all season except for two games (Villa, Newcastle) and all in all a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. Why certain folks still feel the need to defend him when he doesn't look arsed himself is beyond me.

Back to studying for me now so it's over and out!

Oh and welcome back Bearsy!

For me a 5 out of 10. He threatens to tantalise us with his skills but always seems to run into trouble, he tires to dribble past one too many players. However, as another poster said, he generates excitement (at least for me) when he's on the team sheet.

Some serious work on him in the summer and hopefully he'll dleiver an 7 to 8 out of 10 next season.

Lets sell him! He's already 22 and had a poor first season in a new country while adapting to a new way of life, culture, language etc. Not once did I see anything that would show any class or ability. He's sh1t. Just like Morgan was when we signed him, wish we'd sold that useless *** too! Young players never develop. It's an embarrassment to this club! It's ridiculous that he didn't come in and tear the league apart.

The exact same - that he's had a poor season but is a young player making his first appearances in a new league, and one that's very different to any he's played in before. Not many hit the ground running, and don't let anyone tell you that the few who do (Coutinho, etc) are the rule rather than the exception.

He played a full season with Bologna, went straight to The Olympics last summer, almost straight back into the season with Bologna. He therefore had no pre-season with us, joined us - a young man away from his wife in a new country, not speaking the language, living in a hotel for months. He suffered a family bereavement that he had to fly back to Uruguay for, missed one game then had to re-join us. Then he picked up an injury. All the while, he was trying to learn the language and get settled. Cut him some slack!

Everyone can see he us a special talent: The most skilful player we have. Now that he's settled with his wife in their own home, can speak and understand English very well, and will have a full pre- season with us, I'm looking forward to him proving his worth next season.

The only problem we are going to potentially have is that he is with Uruguay in the Confederations Cup. Selfishly, as a Saints fan, I hope they get knocked out in the group stages, as at least he will get a two week break before having to report back for pre-season. If Uruguay make it through to the knockout stages and on to the final, he will be coming straight from Brazil to pre- season with us and no break.

So, potentially, he could be going into a third year of solid football with no break - Bologna pre- season, Bologna season, Olympics, Bologna pre-season, Bologna season / transfer to us, Confederations Cup, pre-season with us, season with us.

A lot of his performance next season will depend on how well Uruguay do in the Confederations Cup and how we deal with his pre-season. I'm sure the club will know how to help him recover and get the best out of him - just bear his situation in mind before you judge.

Firstly just want to say that this is the one of the best posts on this thread but was quickly skimmed over and it's altered my thoughts and I have to now agree it's all about next season for Ramirez.

Secondly, whilst i'm sure it's not much of a loss, but the reason I don't post and only generally read the forum is for some of the blatant trolls and wum's who derail threads, attack individuals who don't have the same opinion and clearly have agendas oriented at winding up and insulting others, bit like the old fogies thread speaks of. However I'll give you an outsiders opinion because that's what I paid my joining fee for but assuredly won't bother again (yes I'm sure no love lost etc).

Barry Sanchez mate you are possibly the worst, Turkish is also well up there for biggest knob. Alpine is a miserable pessimistic git but gets a rough deal. MLG is also a forum whipping boy which sometimes comes across as proper harsh, fair play to him for sticking it out. Sour mash seems to be another tool on a massive wind up mission, but does contribute some good ideas. But let's not be completely negative, think the9 is a great poster and is balanced, bearsy is a laugh, Dig Dig gives a good account on most threads unless he's been got to or is defending someone he really shouldn't be, like BS.

All in all, none of those I mention should give a **** of my opinion either way, but my hope is that maybe someone who owns or Mods this forum will one day take a good look. There have been more than enough posters telling you that you are losing business because of a few massive helmets ruining it and putting other people off, hence the flavour of this entire forum is so bloody depressing, oppressive and 'mong'. I reckon this forum could be brilliant if someone with the power has the balls to actually take a good look at it and fix it. BTW never quite understood it, does this make me a happy clapper?

Oh and sorry Baz, I know i'm only judging you on one seasons performance (which you haven't been continually present for), but that's fair enough right ;)

(excuse grammar: cue backlash) :p

If he didn't have the price tag he did, wasn't a full International and not really known before signing then I don't think expectations would be as high and maybe people would appreciate what he has contributed a little more which is more than just the Villa and Newcastle game.

5 goals and 3 assists in 20 games for an attacking midfielder is pretty good. He can be frustrating in some games and does go missing but equally other players can do the same. Can't deny his work rate either. Big player for us next season. And a very good post from Essruu. Remember RVP when he first played for Arsenal?

Agree and people that think those numbers is bad, look at Kagawa. 6 goals 4 assist and playing in the best team in the league with the best strikers...

I don't quite understand this comparison. If anything it serves to prove the point; Kagawa arrived with big fanfare and has significantly under delivered. I wouldn't say for one minute that he has offered value for money on his transfer.

5/10 season for Gaston for me. Some flashes of decency but all too often some poor performances. Most frustratingly its not that he's tried audacious things that haven't come off, but that he hasn't got the simple things right.

Also Essruu's post has kicked in to touch the premise of "give him a good pre-season and lets see where we are". He's got it all to do next season; this season can be put down to adjusting, but even still I'd have expected him to be a stand out first choice player at the end of the season, which he clearly wasn't (before he went and got suspended).
