Brazil v England...

I know this is a tough game away to a very good team. But my god, why can't we pass the ball more than 5 times in one go.

When hart does roll it out. It's only to Johnson who then thumps it down field.

2 solid defensive lines with grafters in the team

Play to your strengths Jamie.

Teletext holidays taking advantage of the fact that those pitchside adverts clearly aren't what is actually being broadcast inside the stadium to run a "DESPERATE TO GET AWAY LIKE WAYNE?" ad, most amusing.

Brazil looking good in possession around the England area, Hulk nearly scorer with a cheeky back-heel and a ball across the box was spurned thanks to the efforts of Glen Johnson... Joe Hart has done well on a few occasions but we are having a few chances on the counter attack. Walcott had a golden chance and a better final ball would yield us a few more.

It's all to play for.

Oh good god, it is on the TV! The picture looks like a picture from the 70's, and they are using an orange ball.

They are using an orange, pink, black and fluorescent yellow ball. Let us not understate this.

I wonder how many more bad games Johnson is going to have for club and country before he is dropped?

Surely it can't be long until Clyne is called up.

Oh, wait, I'm still assuming players are picked due to form.... silly me.

Hedgehog Gutter Brush breaking South America I see.

Along with Sun Goals and UFC on BT Sport... anyone would think they weren't the same ads the Brazilians were seeing. Unless you were referring to haircuts of course.

Clyne was allowed to go to the U21s tourney and walker is injured

Also Johnson was near our POTT during the euros TBH

Plus you cant pick an int team purely on form

It is one hell of an indicator of what you should be doing though.

Very much so, but if you have played the game it is very difficult to play with anyone you have never played with before, playing in a system vastly different to what your used to without spending time on the training pitch.

International coaches and their selectors know that they have limited time to coach what they need, and so you get a bulk of players that are used to the system you require and can play together.

Personally, these end of season friendlies are pointless. Let those able to play u21s play and the rest rest.

This is a key point...

Yes, it will be tricky to get players not that used to each other gelling as a team in a different tactic. The sign of a great international manager is one that can overcome this and get a team to buy into his system and with his team-mates quickly.

Many other international sides mix a more diverse selection of players, those who play in different nations to each other, from different backgrounds and philosophies and achieve a blend far more successfully then the usual suspects from the Premier League European qualifiers.

Our insistence on picking from this group is lazy and a sign of the technical shortcomings of our coaches, not just the players.

Yeah maybe thats true, many international teams dont have the choice of their players all playing together regularly. But if you look at most of the big teams they will have their pockets of players that play together.

This is the reason that every int manager we have had picks from the top 6, its not rocket science

I see Fred as a Brazilian lambert, obviously way better though. Essentially what I'm getting at is Fred isnt the most mobile, has a good touch, finish and vision all traits we tend to agree lambert has. Also he's only a year and a bit younger than rickie. So if phil scolari thinks that sort of player is effective at 'international' level then why doesn't woy think similar?

Just a thought haha

It's lack of dividend shows it to be a shortsighted and complacent approach. We need to think outside of the box, even our current manager admits the choice is too limited yet he still doesn't look outside.

It wouldnt work, look at QPR, all capable, but if you change an entire team and system it can be a disaster

Did you really expect anything else from a very limited England side in Brazil?

We've done ok.

Expected far better passing though. At times, loads of times, aimlessly giving the ball away. Many times unchallenged

Just then. Again, hart just booted the ball out from a goal kick

this I agree with, we may have scored but Christ we are terrible at passing (excluding the last 5 minutes)

We've done that for the last 20 years, why do you think it'd change tonight?
