I disagree on chamberlain, I don't think he's done anything to suggest he's a top 6 player since he's been at arsenal. He might have the potential but not done it yet. Walcott is at a push, is he better in his position than what is at the other top clubs, you'd have to say, no. Bale is obviously top class. So that's one, possibly two that are genuine top 6 ability based on current performances.

There was a thread on here the other day where some guy had challenged his Man United supporting mate that Saints had a better "all time academy XI" than Man U. Turns out, of course, not even close. It was a silly boast.

Also another recent thread pouring scorn on an article highlighting West Ham's academy success, ignoring their 20 years of success in bringing all manner of international players through.

we've got a very good academy. One to be proud of. One we should develop further. You won't find anyone in their right mind who would debate those facts.

What we don't have is the best academy in the country/world, in terms if history. We also don't have a blank sheet if paper to create a blueprint for all other clubs to follow, that's a naive and arrogant thought. We do have a good backup of youth coming through and an obligation to give opportunities to youngsters. I'll choose to not get that confused with bring a magic wand that we've never had before and is the secret to European success and showing other clubs how it should be done.

But if these players had carried on playing every week then they probably would have been by now. Players need to play.

utter speculation.

in their first two full seasons at arsenal Walcott and Chamberlain played more times for them than Bale did in his first two at spurs, which player has progressed more?

For the record

AOC 59 appearances

Walcott 71

Bale 42

But thats because Bale was and is a far better more all round player.

And I never said our academy is the best. Of course there are better. But the signs in recent years are very promising. We seem to be producing a 'top' player every couple of seasons along with some more mediocre ones, and like you say thats something to be massively proud of. There are also a lot of players who come through and never quite make it. But it's certainly exciting times.

Short memory. He is now, but at the time Walcott left us he was one of the hottest properties in Europe, Bale wasnt. He was a very good young player and a promising full back, he's a totally different player to the one that left us. You claimed Walcott & AOC havent fullfilled their potential because they havent played much, this is incorrect as ive proven. I used 2 full seasons as that is how long AOC has been at Arsenal so its like for like, Bale played less in that period and is the better player, by some distance.
