Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 6 June, 2013 Share Posted 6 June, 2013 Are we going to be able to get the shirts at any reasonable sports shop now, instead of being tied to club outlets ? Dunno, but why in all honesty does it matter for you?
alpine_saint Posted 6 June, 2013 Share Posted 6 June, 2013 Dunno, but why in all honesty does it matter for you? Theres always the chance for me to pick one up over here, or at least with less P & P from an addidas outlet over here if this is the case. DuncanRG Posted 6 June, 2013 Share Posted 6 June, 2013 I'd be very surprised (but pleased) if we managed to get them into shops outside the UK. The most we can probably hope for is UK distribution but was there not already an announcement about them keeping it to club outlets next season? Or did I imagine that

DuncanRG Posted 6 June, 2013 Share Posted 6 June, 2013 Indeed. Maybe once we've got an MLS franchise, won the Champions League and launched our own brand of perfume

The only rumour about it I've heard is that the distribution will remain the same, i.e. Saints sell it from 2 stores and online. Dunno if the IoW shop they were using is still going, so maybe 3 stores. I was surprised at this, as I'd expected it was a Lowe Legacy, but apparently seems to be ok with Cortese. Not entirely convinced by that argument. I am sure NCs brief is all about spreading the brand. And a lot of neutrals wear kits of teams they dont support if said kit has a striking and cool styling, or if the team become prominent for good play. I am hoping for both next season
Sidney Fudpucker the 3rd Posted 6 June, 2013 Share Posted 6 June, 2013 I really don't understand the mentality of the people running the club shop. They've removed all of last seasons kits from the website despite the fact they still have stock in many sizes. I phoned them to see what was available as my lad wants an away shirt and was told that they're still full price and won't be reduced. What is the point of that? Shocking business sense. Nobody in their right mind will pay full price for a discontinued shirt. If that's how it's going to be then let the old shirts gather dust, he can save his money and buy next seasons kit. Makes you wonder, just how little do the shirts really cost to produce and ship to the stadium? Must have made an astonishing margin on them if they can now just be shunted away and written off. The margin in football shirts is massive! 50% off still leaves them making money with a tidy profit. It's a basic rule of business... Turn your stock! They can't sell the old kit because the adidas deal began on June 1st, I'm not sure why you think it's got anything to do with the "people who run the club shop". I asked in the Megastore about this on Saturday (June 1st) and was told the same, already posted it on here too.

I'm half expecting them to appear on Sportsdirect.com in a few weeks, but at the same time, the Saints Foundation have taken loads of kit to Africa before, and equally, the shirts (only shirts though, apparently) can be bought in the Stadium Megastore IF you ask for them. The9 Posted 6 June, 2013 Share Posted 6 June, 2013 How can the deal have started if there is nothing to buy yet ? You'll have to ask the club that. It was stated quite clearly in the communication. "As of 1st June 2013, the Club will enter into a long-term partnership that will see the sportswear giant produce our team kit, replica kit, training wear, leisurewear and equipment Read more at http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/article/southampton-fc-are-all-in-839343.aspx#12XmwJFMKquJ7GYk.99 " It was, however, clearly the reason for clearing all non-adidas branded replica kit on the evening of May 31st. alpine_saint Posted 7 June, 2013 Share Posted 7 June, 2013 Great, so as of the 1st June they produce our kit. Great, the factory wheels (meaning slaves in the Far East) are turning, but there is no product to buy as of yet. Failing to see why that means the old stuff cannot be sold off. They can produce it any time they like, I'm sure we could get into pre-contracts, especially as Umbro don't exist any more, guessing they basically couldn't sell it or brand adidas everywhere before then. And they can't sell the old stuff officially because I would think adidas' contracts would be very explicit about that. It's the same reason clubs can't sell authentic retro kits from other brands in their official shops. They'll either give the kit away via the Foundation or they'll flog it to Sportsdirect and Mike Ashley will sell it on.
