Crowds Posted 28 May, 2013 Posted 28 May, 2013 Saw the title and half expected a picture of Neil Shipperly
Golden Balls Posted 28 May, 2013 Posted 28 May, 2013 Chicken balti at Ninian Park. May have been cos I was hammered and starving though. Best burger - Newcastle by a long way.
oracle saint Posted 28 May, 2013 Posted 28 May, 2013 Aldershot - steak & kidney pie. Saints reserves Vs Chelsea reserves. Pahars ran the show. Fernandes played on the wing - was close enough to be able to offer verbal encouragement to him in French. He seemed to quite enjoy it.
Saint Garrett Posted 28 May, 2013 Posted 28 May, 2013 Chesterfield vs Torquay...I had a cracking pie there. Worthy mention to the fish and chip shop at Rochdale!
The Kraken Posted 28 May, 2013 Posted 28 May, 2013 Saw the title and half expected a picture of Neil Shipperly Funnily enough I saw him yesterday while walking along Wembley Way. I'd seen the recent pictures of him but it's still absolutely staggering how huge he is now.
timebomb Posted 28 May, 2013 Posted 28 May, 2013 WBA - best food around the ground The Vine was superb.
norwaysaint Posted 28 May, 2013 Posted 28 May, 2013 Neil Shipperly is the same age as David Beckham. Does anyone else have trouble getting their head around that fact?
Mark Posted 28 May, 2013 Posted 28 May, 2013 Hartlepool - meat and potato with chips and gravy That gets my vote too.
scotty Posted 28 May, 2013 Posted 28 May, 2013 Hartlepool - meat and potato with chips and gravy hmmm.....unspecified meat. At least it had probably been hung well.
Turkish Posted 29 May, 2013 Posted 29 May, 2013 Why people need to stuff their face as soon as they enter a football stadium is beyond me. No wonder so many football fans are fat.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 29 May, 2013 Author Posted 29 May, 2013 Eating popcorn at the cinema vs eating pies at football........ Which is more essential?
Saint Garrett Posted 29 May, 2013 Posted 29 May, 2013 Why people need to stuff their face as soon as they enter a football stadium is beyond me. No wonder so many football fans are fat. Well tbf. If its an away game and I've been drinking since 9am, no surprise I am hungry by 2:30....
BristolSaint Posted 29 May, 2013 Posted 29 May, 2013 Best food - WBA - Balti pie Worst food- Burger in brine at Sellhurst Park
Shroppie Posted 29 May, 2013 Posted 29 May, 2013 The Vine was superb. It always is. Chatting with WBA fans at our home game a few weeks back they were saying there's a new similar place opened up nearer the ground, and ir's just as good. If I'd been sober at the time I might have been able to remember the name now, but I wasn't.
Toomer Posted 29 May, 2013 Posted 29 May, 2013 (edited) There is/was a good fish & chip shop close to the ground at Crewe. Edited 29 May, 2013 by Toomer
dronskisaint Posted 29 May, 2013 Posted 29 May, 2013 hmmm.....unspecified meat. At least it had probably been hung well. :d:d
Turkish Posted 29 May, 2013 Posted 29 May, 2013 Eating popcorn at the cinema vs eating pies at football........ Which is more essential? Isn't it amazing how little people can do without eating.
Turkish Posted 29 May, 2013 Posted 29 May, 2013 Well tbf. If its an away game and I've been drinking since 9am, no surprise I am hungry by 2:30.... do you get hungry at 2.30 and 3.45 on a normal working day and have to pop down to the local burger bar to fill your greedy face?
Saint Garrett Posted 29 May, 2013 Posted 29 May, 2013 No but I do normally have lunch at some point. Say on a normal London game, I'll have breakfast early, get the train about 9, start drinking, then grab a pie or something normally on the walk to the ground or once inside. I'd be wasting drinking time if I went to get lunch at 1, having to leave a pub and then to return to it.
norwaysaint Posted 29 May, 2013 Posted 29 May, 2013 Isn't it amazing how little people can do without eating. I don't think we're supposed to call them that any more.
scotty Posted 29 May, 2013 Posted 29 May, 2013 Isn't it amazing how little people can do without eating. I don't think we're supposed to call them that any more. Very good.
eelpie Posted 29 May, 2013 Posted 29 May, 2013 The best pie that I have not eaten was at Norwich when 20 minutes before the game started Delia's pies were all sold out. I want to know ho ate them.
KK the 2nd Posted 29 May, 2013 Posted 29 May, 2013 The Vine was superb. Was that the pub with lots of small rooms, cracking beer selection and excellent Balti? If so, I agree. Makes it a favourite away trip.
Shroppie Posted 29 May, 2013 Posted 29 May, 2013 Was that the pub with lots of small rooms, cracking beer selection and excellent Balti? If so, I agree. Makes it a favourite away trip. Yes - massive room at the back with BBQ.
stockportsaint Posted 29 May, 2013 Posted 29 May, 2013 The best pie that I have not eaten was at Norwich when 20 minutes before the game started Delia's pies were all sold out. I want to know ho ate them. I had one of them. I can confirm that the pies at Norwich are the best I've had at a football ground. I was veggie at the time (2003), and my option was normally some minging cheese & onion pie that was so bad even Greggs wouldn't serve it, and would cost £2.50 and be so hot you couldn't eat it for ten minutes without burning your tongue. Cue a visit to Norwich in November 2003, on a freezing cold day I was looking forward to Delia's pies selection and I was not disappointed. I chose a Broccoli & Stilton number, and was pleased to find it actually tasted of the promised ingredients, rather than being some undefined scorching hot gloop. These days I've realised what a rip off football food is and very rarely buy anything in or around the ground. I'd rather pay £5-7 for something decent, edible & VFM in the pub 2 hours earlier. Although I did waver at Sunderland recently when I smelt chips & curry sauce outside the ground and had to indulge.
John Boy Saint Posted 29 May, 2013 Posted 29 May, 2013 I had a Chicken and Mushroom pie at the Amex that I thought was quite tasty, but then being New Years Day probably most things would have tasted nice.
Golden Balls Posted 30 May, 2013 Posted 30 May, 2013 Isn't it amazing how little people can do without eating. Isn't it amazing how some people do things differently to you. I usually have something to eat at away grounds and sometimes at SMS (although I'll try to avoid getting something there by eating before). I'm not fat or greedy.
saintedwill Posted 30 May, 2013 Posted 30 May, 2013 Cottage pie at Shrewsbury - almost tasted home made
ladysaint Posted 30 May, 2013 Posted 30 May, 2013 Best pies are at Motherwell closely followed by the pie shop at Blackburn Rovers.
This Charming Man Posted 30 May, 2013 Posted 30 May, 2013 Best grub in the ground is Sheffield Wednesday. The pie, mushy peas and gravy is divine. Best pie though is BHA. The Chicken and Ham Pie was quite simply to die for.
