New Sponsor Rumour - Red Bull

Someone else said on here the other day that Saints will be sponsored by a major drinks brand so ties into that rumour.

Also ties into the 'F1 team' rumour.

It could be a case of hearing rumours and going 1+1=3, I have had the same thoughts on who would fit that profile... which F1 team would want to sponsor a football club? And based on Red Bull's background in sport sponsorship it made perfect sense. It is however all conjecture.

Probably reading far too much into things now, but, clubs that Red Bull sponsor:

RB Leipzig: Adidas kit

NY Red Bulls: Adidas Kit

Red Bull Salzburg: Adidas Kit

Red Bull Brasil: Adidas Kit

Red Bull Ghana: Adidas Kit

And all play with white shirt with red adidas detailing with red shorts and white socks. The rumours are we are to be sponsored by an F1 team/drinks company and will be using a predominantly one colour shirt supplied by Adidas next year of a design that will not please everyone.....

Not ITK, but we had a young Austrian student stay with us some years back. Visited them and got to know the family well. She became PA to the MD of Red Bull. Lost touch with her now, but she always had fond memories of Southampton.

Just saying, like...

To be fair, none of them play in red as is rumoured for our next shirt. Leipzig do have a smaller logo than the others though (2012/13 kit) :

Thread title is misleading to say the least!

potentially misleading

Well it implies it has been confirmed, when it is actually from a random on Twitter. When I clicked on the thread I was expecting to see a link to an OS article annoncing that the aap3 deal had been ended a year early and the details of a new deal with Red Bull.

Adrian Newey was at Southampton Uni I think, at the same time as my youngest brother.

Not saying that it will happen, but I am surprised that Red Bull isn't already present in the money circus that is the EPL

This. TBH I dont think it would be too bad and would visually look quite nice.

Mock up on the 'away kit' from the Kit Thread.

potentially misleading

No, that's the one thing it isn't. It's either true or it isn't. It isn't true at the moment, so it's just misleading, and if it becomes true it isn't misleading. It's never potentially misleading. It's potentially NOT misleading if we do become sponsored by them, or just misleading.

At the moment, it needs a question mark.

It's been a fairly open secret that the club has been looking to ditch aap3 for the final year of the contract - no idea if they've got some sort of break clause in it or whether the club think they can simply get more money from an alternative sponsor even after paying some sort of compensation.

They sent out information packs to a load of companies at the end of January with a cleverly Photoshopped photo of the team celebrating a goal (Puncheon away at QPR, I think) with the targeted company's logo placed on the players' shirts in place of aap3's. No idea if they're looking within a certain industry or not, but the one I saw certainly wasn't within the drinks industry, as has been put forward as a "done deal" previously.

I would say that Red Bull aren't known for their "fitting in with existing corporate branding" very well, as the generic white/red kits and sponsor branding of the kit, team name and badge for all other clubs show, so I can't see this happening this season when there are already advanced rumours about our colourschemes and even kit details doing the rounds. Might be a possibility for 2014 though, when the sponsorship runs out anyway.

I wouldn't give a toss if it was just their logo on a red and white striped shirt and a navy away kit, but that wouldn't be in line with their usual tactics.

I'm assuming this is the Twitter source since nobody else is talking about it? The tweet from 10:52pm last night?

https://twitter.com/Saints_team_bus

No-nothing, nonsense account.

I don't do twitter. Now I know why. So based on this 'source' we are going Red Bull(****!). More likely that Gus Poyet is gonna come in to be No 2....! Shhheeeeeeesh it is gonna be a long long close season.....

'Twas me folks... but it was only a guess putting two and two together. Wasn't trying to start off an unofficial rumour. My track record for getting things right as afr as saints are concerned is Zilch!

He was also at Repton with Jeremy Clarkson, not sure how this helps. Newey does not have much say in the purse strings of Red Bull, only in the design of the cars. maybe it won't be Red Bull, maybe we will be Toro Rosso instead given that NC is Italian.

I see Red Bull have a Twitter account for all those teams... just needs a swift bright spark entrepreneur to grab the @redbullsaints twitter name before they do... ;)

edit: indeed, those teams not only have Red Bull sponsor their shirts but they actually adopt Red Bull as part of the team name.... is that allowed in the Premier League (incorporating a sponsor name in the team name)?
