WealdSaint Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 Nice localish away day. Pleased for Kevin Phillip's that he scored. And please remember respect for Mr Holloway when they play at St Mary's (no singing the premier league your having a laugh)
Saint-Armstrong Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 So the Premier League 2013/14 line-up is... 1. Arsenal 2. Aston Villa 3. Cardiff City 4. Chelsea 5. Crystal Palace 6. Everton 7. Fulham 8. Hull City 9. Liverpool 10. Manchester City 11. Manchester United 12. Newcastle United 13. Norwich City 14. Southampton 15. Stoke City 16. Sunderland 17. Swansea City 18. Tottenham Hotspur 19. West Bromwich Albion 20. West Ham United
Chewy Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 So that's the second relegation spot sewn up with hull. Wonder who else is going down?
Window Cleaner Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 So that's the second relegation spot sewn up with hull. Wonder who else is going down? Norwich
Chewy Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 If stoke appoint Hughes could well be them, but I'm not convinced by di Canio and villa are not that good, especially if they lose benteke. Clearly the summer will be very important but place and hull are surely way too weak?
Charlie Wayman Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 So Palace & Hull confirmed to go down. Stoke or Sunderland to join them, maybe even Fulham who's time must be up?
Verbal Kint Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 If stoke appoint Hughes could well be them, but I'm not convinced by di Canio and villa are not that good, especially if they lose benteke. Clearly the summer will be very important but place and hull are surely way too weak? As things stand then yes. But who knows how their squads will look come August. Wouldn't surprise if palace get zaha for another season on loan
Charlie Wayman Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 And please remember respect for Mr Holloway when they play at St Mary's (no singing the premier league your having a laugh) Premier League? You're having a laugh! Ho! Ho! Ho! ...lloway
VectisSaint Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 So that's the second relegation spot sewn up with hull. Wonder who else is going down? Cardiff
dan abnormal Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 don't think it will be norwich, there biggest problem was a lack of goals this season and with van wolfswinkel arriving i reckon they will score a few more. will be another solid yet unspectacular year for them. reckon it will be stoke, if they got rid of pulis purely for the brand of football and plan on bringing in a more passing game based manager then new guy will struggle with the amount of dross at that club. overpaid, ageing dross.
saints_is_the_south Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 Sunderland, Hull and Crystal Palace down for me. The teams coming up from the Championship this season are nowhere near as strong as those that came up last season, IMO. Hull for example, finished 2nd despite losing 15 games (nearly 1/3 of total games) whilst we only lost 10 when we finished 2nd. I think Cardiff will invest enough to just scrape to safety in 17th place.
Rut Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 Every non-SFC forum was saying 'right - who is going down with Southampton & West Ham then' at this time last season. Don't blindly assume Palace will go down (West Ham) Don't assume Hull will go down with them (Saints) Don't think because Cardiff won the Championship they will stay up (Reading) Or have you really thought that every team we've played this season has looked world beating? We were totally out-classed once all season - and that was only for one half.
sotonjoe Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 Selhurst Park is an absolutely awful experience. Disgraceful that it's even allowed in the Premier League.

Cardiff have money so I think have a chance, but I can't see any hope for the others.
Rut Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 Selhurst Park is an absolutely awful experience. Disgraceful that it's even allowed in the Premier League. That's what non-SFC fans said about The Dell. Especially after we'd just beaten them. What WOULD be a disgrace if the Prem was a closed shop based on ground size, ave attendance etc. Thankfully it ain't.
SNSUN Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 Pleased for Palace, I have a couple of Palace supporting mates and Selhurst Park is one of the few away grounds I've been to. I can't see them doing very well next season though...
Hatch Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 Manchester Utd 2/1 Manchester City 2/1 Chelsea 5/2 Arsenal 14/1 Tottenham 20/1 Liverpool 25/1 Everton 350/1 Newcastle 750/1 West Ham 1500/1 Aston Villa 1500/1 Fulham 1500/1 West Brom 1500/1 Swansea 1500/1 Southampton 2000/1 Sunderland 2500/1 Stoke 2500/1 Norwich 3500/1 Cardiff 5000/1 Hull 7500/1 Crystal Palace 10000/1 from ladbrokes
Rut Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 What's the relegation odds? Palace are currently 4/7 so for everyone who says PALACE WILL GO DOWN how much you putting on? If you are that certain then this price must seem massive! A license to print money! The bookies are giving it away! If I KNEW something was gonna happen I'd lump everything possible onto it at 4/7. Bet none of you do... http://www.oddschecker.com/football/english/premier-league/relegation Saints are 7/1. I reckon this is about right actually. Obviously we COULD go down. But probably? Nope.
Kenilworthy Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 Since three out of the four times in our history we have been relegated we have gone down with Norwich we need them to stay up.
Saint J 77 Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 Since three out of the four times in our history we have been relegated we have gone down with Norwich we need them to stay up. So now Palace are up, all the teams relegated in 2005 are back in the Premier League. Hopefully history will not repeat itself next season.

The9 Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 Since three out of the four times in our history we have been relegated we have gone down with Norwich we need them to stay up. They should be more worried about us going down : EVERY time we've been relegated when they're in the same division as us they have been too : 1973/4, 2004/5, and 2008/9. We've only gone down once, in 1952/3, without them also being relegated (they were in Div 3 South and we were in Div 2) and they've gone down loads of times without us (in 1938, 1980, 1985, 1994). So them going doesn't matter to us, but us going matters to them.
kwsaint Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 Next season will be a very good season especially with United, City, Chelsea and Everton all having managerial changes (and Stoke as well). Think if we stay up this year then we'll submit plans for a stadium expansion although I think that's been discussed enough on this forum.
Surrey Saint Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 Went to Championship play off this afternoon with my CP supporting son (yes he 'ought' to be a Saint but born and brought up in South London, - what can I say?). CP support outstanding, 35000 singing throughout. Be good to see a Saints/CP game at Wembley some time,; noise would be terrific. CP team will need a lot of work to stay up; son reckons only three of current squad Premier quality. What did we have this time last year? Five? SRL, Lallana, Cork, Schniederlin, Puncheon (maybe)? Fonte maybe? Have to agree with others that, as things stand, Palace are a good bet to go straight back down.
saintedwill Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 Why don't we like Holloway again? Hopefully it's not a petty reason.
ollysaints1 Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 Do Palace have enough money to make the necessary improvements to their squad?
The Kraken Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 Well, what a bunch of arrogant c*nts we have as fans. I'm just back from Wembley, and to redress the balance of this thread. Get in there Palace, and a massive welcome to the Premier League to the Eagles. Had a great day out today with a brilliant bunch of fans, they will be a welcome addition in the league and it will be most enjoyable to make the trip to Selhurst yet again.

Lighthouse Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 Why don't we like Holloway again? Hopefully it's not a petty reason. Mainly because he comes across as a bitter man with a chip on his shoulder who hides behind a veil of loveable roguery and media sound bites. That's my opinion on him anyway. Then there is this from when we knocked his Blackpool side out of the Cup 2 years ago. What a plank.
The Kraken Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 Then there is this from when we knocked his Blackpool side out of the Cup 2 years ago. What a plank. I must have missed the offensive part of what he said there, if I'm honest. Holloway is a bit of a goon, but I can't see much wrong in what he said there. Apart from if you're massively precious, of course.

Holloway is a bit of a goon, but I can't see much wrong in what he said there. Apart from if you're massively precious, of course. We knocked them out in the cup whilst in League One, while at the same time he was struggling with Blackpool in the Prem. Lots of pressure and a really awful display by Blackpool led him to get all precious about a bit of banter between two sets of fans and have a go at us. Consequently, he's regarded by pretty much every Saints fan as a tool. Add in his supposed "footballing knowledge" and the fact that he's a bitter potato-faced wurzel and there you go. I'm looking forward to abusing him when Palace come to SMS.

I reckon if a Saints manager came out with that he'd get lauded for it. I think Holloway is a **** most of the time, but he's pretty much alright with what he's said there.

His job is to be professional and to manage a football team, not to get all worked up over a bit of banter between two sets of fans. To me he comes across as incredibly bitter and frankly unprofessional. I know part of his image is that whole "straight talking" thing, but I don't think you'd get too many other managers saying the same thing - not ones with a decent sense of humour and the ability to laugh at themselves anyway...

Which part was unprofessional, Mike? "To me he comes across as incredibly bitter". You see, this is quite funny for me; its almost like ten thousand spoons...
SaintBobby Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 Villa above us? They're having a laugh, surely? Villa's chance of winning the league = 0.067% Saints = 0.05% It's a rounding error....
The9 Posted 28 May, 2013 Posted 28 May, 2013 Villa's chance of winning the league = 0.067% Saints = 0.05% It's a rounding error.... I put it down to Villa having more stupid fans who'll actually bet on them winning the League, and therefore they've got shorter odds so the bookies lose less if the extremely unlikely happens. Of course, if you agree that we'll come above Villa there's definitely a handicap bet in there for you.

Yep. Lets flush all the characters out of the game. Managers should offer some dour cliches at the end of a match and no more, god forbid they actually express an opinion. God, you're boring.
