Batman Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 Lads mags like zoo, FHM etc to be banned or the shops may face prosecution They portray women in a disgusting light and promote violence against women. Well. That is what feminist groups want
Smirking_Saint Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 Im sure women arent forced into it, people just having a moan for moans sake
Tokyo-Saint Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 Having a few mates that work on lads mags, I can confirm that these women are not being portrayed as dumber than they actually are.
pap Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 Just so everyone is aware that this is a current news story, and not one of Jamie's half-remembered fevered dreams, here is a link. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/sales-of-lads-mags-could-amount-to-sexual-harassment-lawyers-tell-shops-8632909.html I don't expect to see much in the way of reasonable debate from our vigilante submarining mate, but as a dad of two girls, I'm not sure I'd like either of my daughters on the cover of one of these mags.
Tokyo-Saint Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 If you do change your mind pap, when they are 18 pm me some photos and I will foward them to the powers that be. Foot in the door if you like. It's not what you know...
trousers Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 If these women are doing this type of job out of choice, isn't it a femanistic paradox to be trying to stop them making their own choices?
Dr Who? Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 There has been talk about his sort of thing for years. I remember the same talk about page 3!
pap Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 If you do change your mind pap, when they are 18 pm me some photos and I will foward them to the powers that be. Foot in the door if you like. It's not what you know... I think they are going to Uni or some sh!t, yos.
Tokyo-Saint Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 Can someone up load some pictures so we can decide if they are sexiest or not. Mods is it ok to post tits and it is for serious discussion purposes in the lounge?
pap Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 If you do change your mind pap, when they are 18 pm me some photos and I will foward them to the powers that be. Foot in the door if you like. It's not what you know... I know you're trying to be sensationalist, you little scamp - but I have heard worse. When I was still living at my old dears, my mate Stampy was sitting in my room while my mum was hoovering. He said to her "do you want a hand?". She says "No, you're alright, Stamp". Then he says "how about a couple of fingers?" I was not present when he made these remarks ( I think I was having a dump, iirc ). However, I had to deal with a justifiably irate mother afterward, and it's really stood me in good stead for the ol' "people making suggestive remarks about your rellies" lark. Even she saw the funny side eventually ( when Stampy left the country ).

Well. That is what feminist groups want *Some feminist groups I'm no lawyer but it seems a bit fishy to me. Can there really be a challenge on the grounds of discrimination under the 2010 Act because it contradicts someone's belief in gender equality? Could a vegetarian launch a legal challenge if they worked in a slaugherhouse? Strange one. We'll see how it pans out I suppose

I have a mate whose daughter was in one of these mags and he was so proud he e-mailed me a link to the mag and sent me photos. I thought that was a bit strange. I will try to dig out the link (or a pic) later, when I have more time.
Tokyo-Saint Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 A few yes. We have got the beach special issue, the Halloween one, 50 fittest birds, milfs and everyone's favourite big brother birds in the bath.
sambosa75 Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 A friend of mine won the FHM high street honey competition a few years back. She's a switched on girl, was studying to be a nurse at the time and donated the £10k award to charity. The magazine interviews would always try and ask her smutty questions and she refused to answer them. Shortly afterwards the work dried up as she also refused to do topless and fully naked. I don't think it's a question of the girls being stupid, more that they are "willing to play the game" and answer the smutty questions making themselves come across as cheap and stupid. It seems this is what is required to keep getting your pictures published in the mags.
Turkish Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 This is Zoos finest hour http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2010/may/05/danny-dyer-zoo-magazine Absolutely hilarious.

ART Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 Whatever next? I thought it was the Animal Rights lot who objected, finding the photos offended cats, who are already up in arms for us humans gorking at videos of cats on Youtube

I get your point. And if I was to have girls of my own I'm sure I'd be of the same point of view. However, I don't see the point in banning them, surely if you ban these you have to ban pornography also? I think you sometimes also have to question who it is that is really being exploited? A girl that shows up, flashes some skin and gets paid. Thousands of pounds for doing so? I know a couple of glamour models, that have been in these mags, and they can earn what I earn in a month in a week. Granted I'm not on great money, but I work 9-6 for that. Yes, it isn't exactly a shining beacon for female rights, or the greatest example to set, but I also don't see why girls that choose to go into this profession, and from the few I have met they actually really enjoy it, should be stopped because some people dislike it? I don't personally buy these magazines, but I do not think they should be banned.
pap Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 But it would still be their choice, none of these girls are being forced into doing it. After 18, all bets are off and I have no say anyway, apart from the values I've tried to pass on. Would you want your daughter on the front of a lad's mag?

We'll see how it pans out I suppose Lawyer is what this is all about, apparently they have hooked up with some, who claim there is compensation to be made, for those that oppose these being on public display. They have had quite a few sign up to this already, supermarket workers, woman in general, this country has gone pc crazy.
OldNick Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 Feminists ffs, get a life. I have daughters and Iam sure they do not have objections to these mags. It is not up to me to decide if they wanted to be on a cover of a mag. D these feminists close their eyes as they drive past any billboards with David Beckham in his undies? I don't feel challenged by such images. IMO I believe it is a woman's world,

pap Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 Its their choice pap As I admitted when I said all bets were off once they were 18. It's my job to ensure that when they reach that age, they have a few more options to choose from.

dingbattigger Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 Mrs D here so this is a woman's point of view. As previously said, no-one is forcing these 'models' into showing off their bodies but if the mags are banned then surely their right to gainful employment is being blocked? These sort of publications are not illegal so if you don't like them then don't look, they are not really 'in your face' are they?
Turkish Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 That is brilliant. What sort of response do you expect writing into Danny Dyer as agony uncle?!!
DuncanRG Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 (edited) Feminists ffs, get a life. I have daughters and Iam sure they do not have objections to these mags. It is not up to me to decide if they wanted to be on a cover of a mag. D these feminists close their eyes as they drive past any billboards with David Beckham in his undies? I don't feel challenged by such images. IMO I believe it is a woman's world, When you walk home at night, are you afraid you'll get raped? This is not a woman's world. It's a man's world in almost every way and a lot of men, for some reason, feel threatened by women fighting to earn the rights that men have enjoyed for centuries. I should point out that I wouldn't necessarily include this particular case in that fight. On that topic, however, there are massive differences between the treatment of men and women in the media. Although it is shifting and we are seeing more sexualised, fragmented images of men this is what women have had everywhere they look, every single day for decades. Unrealistic body images, judgement for failure to adhere to it and solutions offered in the form of commercial products. And most of the time, even highly sexualised male models tend to be portrayed as powerful & aspirational figures rather than submissive objects of desire. Here are some good examples of the differences, and here Edited 27 May, 2013 by DuncanRG
Viking Warrior Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 I heard someone from object on BBC Scotland this morning . They said that they were not banning the mags but ensuring newsagents supermarkets etc to stop selling them . To which the reporter asked if this s not banning them she said no . She was going on about employees who who be offended by putting them out on shelves etc . However what was not asked or commented on was what this feminist person had to say about girlie magazines such as hello ok and other like mags which promote women's sexuality . I'm going to email object and ask them that very question

pap Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 Once they were allowed to vote this county was f*cked. Aw bless. You still think voting matters
Turkish Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 Aw bless. You still think voting matters No, you're wrong, don't and hasn't since they were allowed too. 50% of votes are now based on what time of the month it is and who wears the nicest tie,

I'll wait for someone else to pull this one from the water.
Jonnyboy Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 To be fair, they just want the mags hidden on the top shelf don't they? I'm a sucker for gawking at boobs on display, but if there were mags with naked blokes in wet pants with massive knobs all over the newsagent I wouldnt really like it.

I'm a sucker for gawking at boobs on display, but if there were mags with naked blokes in wet pants with massive knobs all over the newsagent I wouldnt really like it. They've been hidden up there for years, haven't they? Er, so I'm led to believe.
Jonnyboy Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 They've been hidden up there for years, haven't they? Er, so I'm led to believe. No, lads mags (boobs, and no vagina) are often on full view next to cosmo and fishing weekly.
Jonnyboy Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 Lies ^ Well, maybe if it was you and Turks on the front covers I could be turned...
Wade Garrett Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 No point banning these magazines if pornography remains so easy for youngsters to access on the net. That's where they should be concentrating their efforts. Much more dangerous.
Smirking_Saint Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 As I admitted when I said all pants were off once they were 18. It's my job to ensure that when they reach that age, they have a few more options to choose from. Roll on 18
The Cat Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 The kids will have to go back to bashing one off into a sock while looking at the lingerie section in their Mum's Grattan catalogue. That or watching hardcore porn online.
Wade Garrett Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 The kids will have to go back to bashing one off into a sock while looking at the lingerie section in their Mum's Grattan catalogue. That or watching hardcore porn online. I always preferred Freemans catalogue back in the day.
The9 Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 (edited) Tch, who cares about mags with girls with their tops off, when there are stories going about regarding teenage girls watching rape porn with their boyfriends and then both of them acting it out with neither of them knowing that's not normal sex ? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-22643862 Edited 27 May, 2013 by The9
scotty Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 To be fair, they just want the mags hidden on the top shelf don't they? I tried to buy a mag off the top shelf yesterday, but couldn't quite reach it. Its the repetitive strain injury in my right elbow.
Lighthouse Posted 27 May, 2013 Posted 27 May, 2013 This has got to be a minority of feminist just after some publicity, surely there isn't a case here. For a start there is no actual nudity on the front covers of these magazines. All private parts, including women's nips have to be covered up on the front cover of the magazine, as illustrated below (disappointing lack of pics on this thread btw). Yes there is a lot of flesh there but nothing actually sexual, all the interesting stuff is covered up. As people have pointed out, it's not sexual harassment if consenting adult women are choosing (and being paid large amounts of money) to do it. Not sure what Delldays means by 'promoting violence against women. If you see pictures like the one above and think, 'wow I'd love to punch the living sh*t out of her,' YOU have the problem not the magazine.
Batman Posted 27 May, 2013 Author Posted 27 May, 2013 It's not what batman means. I was just repeating what some woman said on BBC news this morning. She claimed that lads mags contributed to violence against women
