ericofarabia Posted 13 June, 2013 Share Posted 13 June, 2013 It seems to be fine now. Steve What happened You little tease - just went back to IE and it is still crap. Using Firefox I notice the home page has the Facebook Link, but the IE one doesn't. Is this significant? Are there 2 versions of the site?
JonnyLove Posted 13 June, 2013 Share Posted 13 June, 2013 Strange I actually deleted my facebook intergration and since then it has moved quicker
JonnyLove Posted 14 June, 2013 Share Posted 14 June, 2013 FAO Steve Grant. I have done me some more testing and it seems to be the Facebook Integration. I added it back in and it slowed down for me again. Took it off and all ok. This would explain why private browsing works so well as it does not log you into anything else. Also why on some browsers it works and others it does not as not everyone would of logged into facebook in each browser. So if the Forum is slow people, try removing the facebook integration from within Facebook and seeing if things seep up.
stevegrant Posted 14 June, 2013 Share Posted 14 June, 2013 Well spotted, thanks for the testing/research I genuinely have no idea how many people actually use the Facebook integration stuff, I reckon I could get rid of it and possibly stick an AddThis toolbar to the thread pages to keep some sort of social bookmarking functionality. Any thoughts?
Colinjb Posted 14 June, 2013 Share Posted 14 June, 2013 The facebook integration is something I use to share news articles/blogs, but I do not use the forum side of things. Frankly, the sharing I do use would be just as possible by simply cutting/pasting links onto there.
stthrobber Posted 15 June, 2013 Share Posted 15 June, 2013 I was finding this problem and just noticed ColinJB's post somewhere to find this thread. I use Firefox and was finding things taking a ridiculous amount of time to load, but the New Private Window option for the browser has been successful, but I can't find any way in Facebook of removing Saintsweb integration or vice versa? Its in the settings menu. I've tried Facebook on and off, InPrivate on and off, Logged in and out, IE, Chrome, IOS; all seem to work intermittently and then not. IE was perfect yesterday, but this morning is ten times slower. All seemed to happen after the last board maintenance event.

trousers Posted 28 June, 2013 Share Posted 28 June, 2013 I wasn't affected by the original problems reported above with Chrome but the last few days it takes 10 - 15 seconds for a post to complete and quite often it pops up the "do you want to leave this page" box when doing so (you usually only see that box if you try to 'back page' on the browser before the post has completed but its happening of its own accord at the moment). I have noticed that 'like', 'tweet' and 'share' have recently appeared on the menu bar towards the top of the forum so maybe I've inadvertently activated this integration malarkey that people talked about before? The "Do you want to leave this page" popup is a built-in browser thing for if you've started filling out a form (i.e. the reply box) and then decide to leave the page before hitting submit. Just as a general rule, if I start replying to a thread and then think better of it (often ), I always completely clear out the reply box by hitting the "Cancel" button. I have noticed that 'like', 'tweet' and 'share' have recently appeared on the menu bar towards the top of the forum so maybe I've inadvertently activated this integration malarkey that people talked about before? No, that share feature is something I've added so that people can still easily link threads via social media. It should wait until the page has finished loading before displaying. Yes, I know and have seen it in action before when clicking away from the page without submitting the content, but I'm now seeing it pop up when I'm not trying to leave the page.... I type something in the reply box, hit 'post quick reply', it then hangs for 5 - 10 seconds before popping up the "do you want to leave this page?" box. It seems connected to the posting delay. It happens about 50% of the time. edit: it just happened with the above post. If you click on 'leave page' then the post appears.... dubai_phil Posted 30 June, 2013 Share Posted 30 June, 2013 Jeez, try and post a quick reply and it takes bloody forever. For us non techs this private window stuff is equally gobbledegook. It don't work no more, it's bad enough trying to find snippets through the moaning & point scoring but if I have to start arsing with my puter settings to do that.......... stevegrant Posted 1 July, 2013 Share Posted 1 July, 2013 I can only suggest that you experiment with different reply options - go to your General Settings page (link here), scroll down to the "Miscellaneous Options" section and change which version of the Message Editor Interface you're using. If you don't tend to use smileys or any sort of fancy text formatting, you can probably use the "Basic Editor - a simple text box" option. That should speed things up a bit.
