Lee Rigby

As the Woolwich thread was closed before the identity of the soldier was known, I thought a simple condolence thread (nothing more) for Lee Rigby would be appropriate. Heaven knows what his family has been through, having seen his death play out so publicly. I hope they get all the help and support they need, as well as some privacy. RIP.

My sincere condolences to his family and comrades.

Ode to the Fallen Soldier

Ode to the Fallen soldier,

For he has made the ultimate sacrifice for his world.

Ode to his Mother for while she lives,

the grief and sadness take their toll on her mind,

as she goes throughout her day,

answering questions like “are you ok? ” and “where is your Son, I haven’t seen him for a while? ”

She always answers, “yes I’m fine”

Or, “he’s away.” But she knows, inside,

She can’t deny.

Ode to the son he left behind,

For he will grow up without knowing who his father is,

Only what he’s done.

Never will he play catch in the yard,

Like the neighbors next door.

Never will he hear that “Man to Man” talk, that all boys should.

Ode to the music that will never be heard, for the only music he made,

rests in his heart.

Ode to the art that will never be seen, for the only art he made,

remains in a box underground.

Ode to the Fallen Soldier,

who died so we could live,

the way all mankind should,

happy and free.

I've seen the original poem before & just been looking & found this slight adaption.

I thought it particularly poignant. As my son is in the RAF & also recently returned from afgan

my heart goes out to Lee Rigby & his family. I can only try to imagine the grief they are all feeling.

For Lee & Family

A rose once grew where all could see,

sheltered beside a garden wall,

And as the days passed swiftly by,

it spread its branches, straight and tall...

One day, a beam of light shone through

a crevice that had opened wide

The rose bent gently toward its warmth

then passed beyond to the other side

Now, you who deeply feel its loss,

be comforted - the rose blooms there-

its beauty even greater now, nurtured by

God's own loving care.

right , it is a tragedy and no-one deserves to die like that. RIP.

But thousands have turned up to his funeral, how may would not bother if the TV cameras were not there.

Also, has his girlfriend been allowed to go as well?

Sorry but another rant about the BBC have they no respect to Lee Rigby's family . They are constantly showing the footage of the murdering scum blood stained hands spouting their bile . The BBC have no common decency and are only playing into the hands of other like minded scum .

Secondly they have a panorama special on now . I switched of after a few minutes but the reporter Peter Taylor is suggesting that Lee Rugby's murder could have been prevented if MI5 hadn't missed a chance to recruit one of them . And just before I switched off Taylor was suggesting the murdering scum were equally victims . They are not they were criminals well before they became followers of Al Quieda . Sorry but the BBC have fallen to even lower levels of common decency

Would you prefer they adopted a stance similar to Fox News? The Beeb doesn't always get it right but makes me laugh when people rant about what they air when basically all they mean is why don't they reflect my opinions. Not always easy. Having no common decency is not sow thing I would accuse them of.

Panorama is generally poor though and I no longer consider watching but is just one programme and if I want to hear news I can trust will always be the place I go. Interesting comparing Sky news and the BBC Twitter news feeds when there is a breaking tragedy. Sky often have higher numbers of fatalities which are frequently scaled down. BBC are always more accurate as sensationalism is not their main focus. It has many faults but still something we should cherish imo.

Whelk like you I want to see news I can trust . The BBC should adopt a stance that respects the relatives in such cases . Not one of promoting extremist behaviour . This is for all high profile cases . The news team and the makers of panarama are guilty of trying to create a story to promote their already inflated ego's

Are we the public so stupid to believe the comments they had exclusive access to to these al Quieda extremist groups . Not in my case . Al Quieda all gave them access so they could promote their murdering ideology . Still BBC did announce that a murdering scum from Southsea has been killed in Syria fighting for al Quieda linked extremist group .

More interesting the BBC made no mention of the trial or the panorama programme on either their bulletins or text pages so far this morning . I hope the powers to be did this because they realise they were being disrespectful to the rigby family showing pictures of the blood stained murdering scum .

Another awful story that has not hit the main headlines is the story about 4 other scum who broke into to the Clutha bar following the helicopter crash . Still as you say the BBC and others only report the news that suits their ideology

I see that the Sun has lived up to it's usual high standards by buying (presumably) the story of one of the killer's mothers and printing a large front-page photo of him with bloodstained machete in hand.

Sorry to interject, but given some of the shocking comments that were written on another thread (now closed (and rightly so)), I thought a reminder of why Verbal started this thread might be appropriate - given the tragic circumstances surrounding these events.

** RIP Drummer Lee Rigby **
