chocco boxo Posted 22 May, 2013 Posted 22 May, 2013 Never rated him and would be a backward step IMO. Saying that would not take Carroll as he is overrated just hope West Ham do not start making noises for SRL.
SuperSAINT Posted 22 May, 2013 Posted 22 May, 2013 I always imagined he'd be a good signing for a Hull or Palace (if they come up). Maybe I'm selling him short a bit.
pingwing Posted 22 May, 2013 Posted 22 May, 2013 He's useless, utterly utterly useless, he'll be playing at pompy at best next season.
Appy Posted 22 May, 2013 Posted 22 May, 2013 There's a reason why West Ham fans refer to him as "Can't Control".
Sour Mash Posted 22 May, 2013 Posted 22 May, 2013 No chance of this happening. He'll end up at Hull or Cardiff if he's lucky.
The Kraken Posted 22 May, 2013 Posted 22 May, 2013 Remember him scoring a hat-trick at St. Mary's in a reserve game against Chelsea many years back. No thanks; don't rate him at all.
SOTONS EAST SIDE Posted 22 May, 2013 Posted 22 May, 2013 I'd rather sign a Bag of Coal. Just as mobile, and alot cheaper!!!
gr00031 Posted 22 May, 2013 Posted 22 May, 2013 Wasn't there a stat on one of the other threads that he missed all of his 5 clear cut chances this season? We need someone who can put those away, we already miss too many clear cut chances in my opinion.
Ziggy Posted 22 May, 2013 Posted 22 May, 2013 Crap. No way will he come here. He is well past his sell by date and he wasn't ever that good.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 22 May, 2013 Posted 22 May, 2013 I can confirm that Saints have no interest in Carlton Cole
rshephard3 Posted 22 May, 2013 Posted 22 May, 2013 To me he's just one of those players who looks average in the prem and would look equally average in league 2. Simply a mediocre centre forward. Lambert is a hugely better player than Carroll let alone Cole.
Smirking_Saint Posted 22 May, 2013 Posted 22 May, 2013 Never rated him and would be a backward step IMO. Saying that would not take Carroll as he is overrated just hope West Ham do not start making noises for SRL. If they pay enough they can have him, as fir Caroll, he is underrated for anyone except for those that watch the game. 35m was vastly OTT for him, but 15m is reasonable IMO. He is mobile, young and a huge handfull. He certainly wouldnt fit our mould but can certainly see his value. Carlton Cole ? Seriously no thanks. Will be a champ player next year, whether its too or bottom depends on his form. As for Saints ? We need a mobile front man, big, strong and that can lead the line. Lukaku or Bentekeish
MAY-Z Posted 22 May, 2013 Posted 22 May, 2013 Ordinarily anyone from a premier league club seems to be rubbished on here no matter how good they are ( just like Carroll on this thread) but this is a time when it's deserved and surely he wont be joining us
Saint Garrett Posted 22 May, 2013 Posted 22 May, 2013 £5m is about right for Carroll if he costs £90k a week as well!!!
SNSUN Posted 22 May, 2013 Posted 22 May, 2013 If we sign Carlton Cole, I'll stick my fingers up my bum and eat whatever I pull out. Which would probably be Carlton Cole. Because he's crap. Geddit...
Doctoroncall Posted 23 May, 2013 Posted 23 May, 2013 I didn't realise he'll be 30 this year, thought he was younger than that. A player released by West Ham is linked with us... Great!
Marsdinho Posted 23 May, 2013 Posted 23 May, 2013 Id take a punt on Darren Bent, he's been told he can leave Villa on a free. Has always scored goals. He could be our 4th choice striker behind Lukaku, Rickie and Rodriguez.
Micky Posted 23 May, 2013 Posted 23 May, 2013 Just the sort of player that we need to fire us into the Champions League places I think.
Bucks Saint Posted 23 May, 2013 Posted 23 May, 2013 Id take a punt on Darren Bent, he's been told he can leave Villa on a free. Has always scored goals. He could be our 4th choice striker behind Lukaku, Rickie and Rodriguez. Bent on a free? For real? Thats some write off then. Would be well worth a look IMHO
SNSUN Posted 23 May, 2013 Posted 23 May, 2013 Bent on a free would be a better signing than Cole on a free but I expect we're looking at bigger fish now. One of the promoted teams can snap up Cole and Bent.
Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 23 May, 2013 Posted 23 May, 2013 He's not been told he can leave for free, they said he is free to leave. Big difference.
Chez Posted 23 May, 2013 Posted 23 May, 2013 He's not been told he can leave for free, they said he is free to leave. Big difference. spot on. £18m (rising to £24m - wonder how and when that kicks in) can't all be written off, even if he is costing them, say £100k a week, to warm the bench. Can't see us signing him, but one or two have pointed to a striker than could give Gaston a target. Was our DoF at Charlton when he played for them?
Window Cleaner Posted 23 May, 2013 Posted 23 May, 2013 Just the sort of player that we need to fire us into the Champions League places I think. what like he fired Villa into the Champion's League places you mean, bloke who replaced him is the sort of striker you need.
The9 Posted 23 May, 2013 Posted 23 May, 2013 I think Darren Bent would give us something different and would give Ramirez the outlet he's looking for and has good pace and aerial presence. The downside is that he's probably not involved enough in the build up play to suit our current system, is a LITTLE one-dimensional, he's English and therefore likely to be overpriced and he's 29 so there would be nothing much in terms of sell-on fee (and he cost Villa £24m). However, despite being out of favour at Villa, he still scores goals in the Prem when he gets the chance, and at the moment he's a lot better than what Mayuka has shown. Whether he'd block Mayuka's development is a valid question though, but then it's about whether we want to spend to get the improvement now or wait and see, and potentially get nothing anyway. He's certainly the sort of player we need to bolster our attacking options, whether specifically him or not, I don't know. But not Carlton Cole, definitely a promoted side signing.

Unfortunately he's going to be signing for a CURRENT top 6 side if he leaves, not a potential one. It's not Bent's fault that they spent all their money on him and Benteke and none on the rest of the team !
Olallana Posted 23 May, 2013 Posted 23 May, 2013 Well maybe we could pair Carlton Cole up with Niclas Bendtner??
Saint Garrett Posted 23 May, 2013 Posted 23 May, 2013 If Bendtner had a better attitude, if have him here in a heartbeat on a free. Don't think he's amazing but nowhere near as bad as people make out.

Can agree but the bigger problem is that he is not as good as he thinks himself so you´re right about the attitude...
derry Posted 23 May, 2013 Posted 23 May, 2013 In my view any striker we sign should have a career record of a goal every two games at least, and currently at a similar level.

Mayuka may yet come good. I know he is young and new to this league etc. But IMO from what I have seen so far, admittedly not much game time, he continues to give the impression of a modern Nicky Banger
lil 1 Posted 23 May, 2013 Posted 23 May, 2013 I was at that, think it was the first ever match at St Marys.Hes always been ****.
