Dean Hammond

He had no chance of a place this year so no idea why he would be in contention next. Scored that good goal against Leeds at the last of the champ season but was never going to set the premier league on fire, can only assume he will ship out this year to get first team somewhere.

As far as I know, he's still a Southampton player and a bit of a forgotten man? Do you think he'll have a place in the squad next season? I've not seen any mention of him moving on, or singing permanently with Brighton, where he's been on loan?

He simply isn't good enough for what Saints needed this season and going forward into next season. Which is why he's out on loan aged 30 to a good Championship club, that is his level.

Can't see any way back for him and Sharp. If anything the club wants to push on next season so if the powers that be determined they were surplus to requirements this season then they are even further away from being involved next season.

Just hope we get a half decent fee for them and no further obligation to subsidise their wages.

No.

Whilst he is still a Saints player he won't be around next season. Was just what we needed in League 1 and the Championship season, he is not a PL player. I fully expect him plus Chaplow, Sharp, Barnard, Seabourne and Martin who were the other loanees (are there others) to all be transferred out in the summer.

With Poyet suspended, uncertain if Brighton will take up their option. Wouldn't be surprised if he popped up at Bournemouth actually. Howe is rumoured to have a decent wage budget to strengthen, it was strongly rumoured that he was interested in Dean when he was at Burnley last summer and rates him as a good leader. Would do well for Bournemouth and no need for Dean to move house or uproot his family.

Loan at Brighton has definitely ended so he's back with Saints. Was very good for us at the right level but clearly not regarded as a Prem player or he wouldn't have been loaned out. Expect to see him leave, possibly on a Free.

Anyone else wonder where B'mth cash keeps coming from....? Average gate of just over 6k last year. I know they have a Russian sugar daddy but wonder if they are going the same way of our friends down the road ?

Great player for us and worthy captain, but we've outgrown him along with a fair few others !

Agree with above comment.

I've been really impressed with the players that have ended up in the same situation as Dean. Billy Sharpe, Fraser Richardson, and Richard Chaplow come immediately to mind who have been good servants to the Club but have simply been 'outgrown' by success. No major moaning or friction has been apparent which is credit to them all. It couldn't have been that nice to do the job in the Championship and then just be effectively dumped.

I guess the same goes for Nigel Adkins as well...........an angle I never quite understood was the press stirring over this issue, if we had signed a better Centre Half no-one would have given it any further thought. Can't see the difference between an upgrade in a player or manager myself, even if it is all pretty cut throat.

There will be a number of players 'made available' over the summer. Players who aren't at Premier level, more at Championship and League 1 level. As said above, while we were unsure whether we would be playing in the Champo next season, it made sense to keep them on our books and loan them out. Any who are out of contract are free to pursue their careers elsewhere, and any still in contract will be given a price tag or made available for loan.

The Club will now focus on top league players, either from home or abroad.

I expect Dean like all loanees will report back with all the squad and Pochettino will giv e them the once over to decide what is done with them. It's obvious that it was Reed that pressurised Cortese to get Apkins to send them out on loan.

Dean Hammondd is a great box-to-box player like Jack Cork but less mobile and with less stamina. He's played really well for the Seagulls and almost helped them into the PL. Had he done so it would have been bitter irony for the lad if Brighton had also taken the view that he isn't good enough for the PL.

Age is against him but he deserves a crack at it surely, just look at how Rickie responded to all those taunts of not being up to it. Alas the modern Saints don't do sentiment and it is more likely we'll end up with a bus load of La Liga senors. Let's hope the Brits don't get marginalised and we end up like Gooners or Manky with hardly a local lad on the team sheet.

Those that hadn't seen Lambert play might have said he wouldn't be upto the Premier League, anyone that saw him regularly in the Championship could see that he would be. Hammond on the other hand simply isn't good enough for the Premier League at the level Saints would want. Cork, Schneiderlin, Davis and Ward-Prowse are all ahead of him in the pecking order and Saints have other young central midfielders coming through.

There were games in the season, especially at the start when Cork was injured where Deano could have done a job but now he'd just be blocking the path for players like Ward-Prowse and Chambers and we want the youngsters to come through.

We'd have got more out of Billy Sharp than Mayuka though who looks ******** to me.

Is it? Why on earth do you think Adkins had no say in who went out on loan, yet you think MP will have a say. Fair enough if you don't like Reed, but just making things up to suit is a bit silly.

Really? I've been impressed from the brief cameos we've seen of him and I think he'll be used a lot more next season.

Apart from Saturday he has done nothing to impress. Bambi on Ice comes to mind. But he must be better than he has looked, no-one could do what he did at YB and the ANC and be complete crap.

I usually give players time, and sometimes I see things in players but for me I have seen very little of young Mayuka except for pace and a decent attitude.

Hopefully he will show me the form which made him one of the worlds high potential youngsters

Worse.

Seems an odd thread to be picking at still when he ended up being the top English scorer in the league, helped keep us up and was very worthy of his time in the prem. Whether he repeats it is another matter but to say he wasn't up to it would suggest you are merely carrying on with your Lambert agenda for the sake of it when statistics and performances would argue completely the opposite.

Zero pace, turns like a double-decker lorry, passing isn't the best, a mid-level Championship player at best. Some good memories of his goal vs. Leeds in first game of our Championship season, as well as him jeering the Brighton fans when scoring against them in L1. Apart from that, he won't be sorely missed. I've got quite a few Brighton fans as friends who dismiss him as a bit of a liability this season.

All I did was indicate that not everyone could see Lambert would be up to the Premier League. That is 1) not a criticism of him and 2) completely true, even if everyone else seems to be retrospectively claiming they knew he was going to be superb all along. There were plenty who weren't sure, and I think the majority would say he's done better than they expected.

I've also done the irrelevance of being joint top English scorer to death already. It simply isn't important, it is barely important being THE top scorer.
