Hodgson's got no idea. He's picked three strikers who haven't got 15 goals between them ..and ignored Rickie..:badger:.

If he's" planning for the future " with this young squad ....someone ought to remind him that the World Cup is next year........the mob he's picked are (un)likely to be ready for 2018..... let alone by next summer.

NO WAY

he will probably not call anyone up.

probably call up darren bent ahead of lambert

West ham have (apparently) agreed a £15m fee with liverpool for the horse

15m isnt far away from what I see his true value TBH. He really isnt as bad as people make out and is pretty effective at whathe does. I dont like what he does, but it is effective.

You are talking about the striker thats looked pretty abject apart from one goal in the last X games ?

Maybe Lambert is the next choice, but our future is around sturridge, welbeck, walcott and rooney.

(And possibly carroll)

Worth a shout at least as a part of a friendly squad should he be fit but would not be surprised to see Roy look elsewhere.

Incidently the timing of the friendly has produced more withdrawals then normal.

I understand friendlies have their purpose but, at some point, it almost seems more logical Hodgson simply having a week with the squad at the s****y new facility. Can run drills, talk tactics, have a first hand look at a few players and give the core a chance to bond. Also he'd not be limited by numbers and could have a look at a few of the options on the fringes, a couple of ours could be included in that bracket.

All opinion of course either way I imagine i'l happily find myself watching the friendly all the same ;)

there was more chance of cork replacing cleverly than srl replacing carroll....and it looks like that chance has walked now that rodwell has scored 2 goals in his latest comeback....

Dont necessarily mind Cleverley being in there but yeah, for me Clyne and Cork should have been there instead of Rodwell and Johnson. (Though with more games I see Rodwell being a V good player)

Anyone who has seen Lambert's post-match interview from Sunday will tell you he really doesn't look like he'd want a call up. He was basically saying 'I'm mentally knackered from this season and just want to lie by the pool for a month'.

Sturridge is, Rooney is hardly young now and i'm not convinced by Welbeck.

Welbeck is a good player, I would ignore the haters, he definately excites me when he plays, Raw but with real talent.

Sturridge will hopefully kick on now he is at Liverpool, explosive and technical, has a predatory instinct, will have a good year next year.

Rooney was never blessed with pace anyway, getting older wont affect him too much and he is only 27

As others have said, Lambert's current form doesn't warrant a call up and he is clearly shattered, he wouldn't turn it down as such, but a call up isn't what he needs right now as above.

I think Rooney leaving United will do him good as well.

I dont get where his head is at TBH, when he turns it on he is brilliant but I think he wants to be top dog somewhere, he burst onto the scene and the Ronnie took his thunder. Now its RVP.

He doesnt want to play midfield but he is so versatile it probably damages him.

I just think he doesnt want it any more

Rodwells form doesn't either.

Gabby Agbonlahor can't be too far away from a recall, his form has been good of late. As for Lambert, forget it - it's possible that JRod would get a chance before Rickie, and he's still way down the list.

Out-of-form and a half-fit striker? no chance. I don't think Lambert will ever get an England call up. Some people need to wake up and realise that

He's been carrying an injury for a month, little training.. Not out-of-form at all.

Whatever his reason was he hasnt been at his best for 6 weeks. He has a lot of these little episodes when he hasnt been playing great which transpire to him playing through an injury during the period of time he has a dip in form

Lambert should have been in the squad ahead of the horse anyway. Now that neddy has pulled a fetlock I hope SRL does not get a late call up, he deserves his rest after a hard season and to come back to pre season fully refreshed and ready to go again.

He really shouldnt have

Really don't get with the Carroll haters, I think he's a decent player, a lot better with his feet than people give him credit for. If rickie retired and we got Carroll in I'd be well happy. Actually I'd be happy replacing rickie with Carroll next season as I reckon Carroll will be the more prolific and has the years ahead of him!

Carroll is "a decent player" but is he worth the money that has been exchanged for him? I would suggest the answer is "No" which probably explains why people have it in for him.

true, shame really as he didn't ask for a ridiculous price to be on his head when he moved to Liverpool then to be ridiculed by all and sundry, everyone would struggle in the same position at such a young age except maybe the exceptionally gifted. I would certainty price him around the ten million mark though.

Exactly this, he is a huge handfull and has ability. Everyone forgets how he looked for newcastle before Kenny ruined him (as he also did for so many others)

Id say 15m was a fair price, little high but its english premium and the scousers looking to recoup

I don't think anyone sees Rickie as a longer term prospect as an England striker, but this season's form shows that he is capable of scoring at Prem. level (where others cannot tread).

IF he continues to score next season as he has this, then how can they ignore him?.....after the World Cup is over .....they can go back to the thankless task of building long term.....using players like Welbeck who can't even gat a regular spot in MU side .and certainly can't score goals even when he does..he's only there in the first place because he's in the same club as Rooney .......and Roy has convinced himself he's just as good.

:rule1: has always been ....play your best on-form players......and it 'aint Welbeck.
