Predict Next Season's Premier League

Lighthouse

Recommended Posts

Just for lolz, before anyone makes any signings etc.

I'll go for

1. Chelsea - The special one returns. Win league and League Cup.

2. Man Utd - Moyes not quite up to Fergie yet. Win FA Cup

3. Man City - More grumblings of discontent with the new manager.

4. Arsenal - Wenger sticks around but still no trophies.

5. Liverpool - Rodgers starts to get them a bit more competitive. FA Cup runners up.

6. Spurs - Bale leaves and they just aren't the same

7. Everton - Martinez takes over. Fellaini is sold.

8. Saints - Some decent signings, overtaken by Everton on the final day.

9. Newcastle - Pardew gets their collective arses in gear.

10. Swansea - Another strong season.

11. West Ham - Keep Carroll and are comfortably midtable. League Cup final.

12. West Brom - Not the same without Lukaku but still comfortable.

13. Aston Villa - Gradually improving under Lambert.

14. Hull - Make a strong start. Only 6 points off the drop zone.

15. Norwich - Winning streak in March keeps them safe.

16. Stoke - Hanging around the drop zone like a bad smell.

17. Sunderland - Di Canio sacked in December.

18. Fulham - Jol leaves. New manager can't keep them up with an aging squad.

19. Cardiff - After a poor start they sack Mackay and appoint Redknapp in November. The fans are delighted. He spends big but fails completely.

20. Watford/Palace - Like lambs to the slaughter. Relegated with over a month to play.

With the season just over, and no signings made, I predict it would finish almost exactly the same as this season's. I'll amend that closer to the start of next season.

Utd will have a stinking season by their standards, too many old men and mediocre kids. Moyes and Sir Alex have just one thing in common, they're Scots and that's about it. Utd should have looked elsewhere cos Moyes...well we shall see.

1. Chelsea - Mourinho return. Already got the best attacking options in PL IMO.

2. Manchester United - If Ronaldo returns then I may have to re-visit this prediction.

3. Manchester City - Season of transition with new manager.

4. Arsenal - If they spend heavily in key areas then they'll be a lot closer to the top 3.

-----------------------------

5. Liverpool - Continued gradual improvement under Rodgers, and expect Sturridge and Suarez to form a very lethal partnership.

6. Tottenham Hotspur - I think Bale may stay for another year, but I think they may struggle to get over disappointment of narrowly missing out on CL two years running.

7. Everton - Another club that will be going through a period of transition. If Baines leaves then they could drop further.

8. West Ham United - Another solid and consistent season for the Hammers.

9. Southampton - No climatising period to get over like last season, expecting a strong summer transfer market to push us up into the top half.

10. Aston Villa - Think the experience from this season will do wonders for their younger players. If Benteke leaves then they'll be struggling again however.

-------------------------------

11. Swansea City - European campaign to affect them, good enough to steer well clear of any trouble.

12. Newcastle United - Pardew starting to run out of ideas, but won't be in trouble.

13. West Bromwich Albion - This season will only have increased expectations, but Lukaku will be hard to replace. Good enough to finish comfortably in mid table.

14. Norwich City - Established PL side now, may flirt with trouble but will be OK.

15. Stoke City - It'll be interesting to see if their style changes now Pulis has left.

16. Fulham - Ageing team, starting to stagnate and slipping towards trouble.

17. Cardiff City - Will invest heavily which will see them scrape to safety.

--------------------------------

18. Sunderland - Disaster is brewing under PDC IMO. Some big egos not taking to his 'methods', and a lost dressing room in general. Rose returning to Sunderland, and Mignolet may get snapped up by one of the big boys.

19. Hull City - Bruce knows what is required to keep them up, but they need to spend heavily to stand any chance.

20. Watford/Crystal Palace - Cut adrift at the bottom.

Community Shield - Manchester United

FA Cup - Manchester United / Runners Up - Arsenal

League Cup - Chelsea

1. Chelsea - Moriniho and money will see them pip City just

2. Manchester City - Will probably spend a fortune, comfortable 2nd place again

3. Arsenal - Wenger is building a decent side there, probably add a few in the summer

4. Manchester United - Moyes will be a disaster, out of his depth. will end the season on the dole

-----------------------------

5. Tottenham Hotspur - Bale will go

6. Liverpool - May do better but usually don't

7. Southampton - Probably optimistic but we have good young players, and money, so will only improve.

8. West Bromwich Albion - decent manager

9. West Ham United - will invest

10. Everton - Will struggle after losing Moyes

-------------------------------

11. Aston Villa - Continue to improve

12. Swansea City - Maybe worse if they lose Laudrup, Europe will be a distraction

13. Newcastle United - Pardew will be sacked, will struggle again

14. Fulham - boring

15. Cardiff City - will invest enough, decent manager

16. Hull City - Just about stay up

17. Norwich City - Don't rate the manager but should have enough to survive

--------------------------------

18. Sunderland - Di Canio is a loon, will be sacked before October

19. Stoke City - spectacular collapse after Pulis goes and attempt to play real football with a bunch of donkeys

20. Watford/Crystal Palace - Just not good enough

Sidenote, have a bet with my spurs supporting housemate, he believes they will finish third next season above both manchester sides, I bet they would finish below both. Anybody think otherwise even if Moyes has a shaky first season?

Your friend's off his head! Who's coming first and second, Chelsea and?

He's backing an all london top three of Chelsea, Arsenal then Spurs. Still cant bring himself to put them above Arsenal no matter what ;)

AVB could do well next year, spurs aint far from being a cracking side, and with the chopping and changing elsewhere they could have a good season but I just dont see the Manchester sides capitulating so easily, Chelski will throw money to bolster their already impressive squad and Arsenal may pip spurs to the post once more with Wengers rumoured £70mil kitty and this being the year all their budgeting comes to fruition (or so the talk goes!).

Tell him to put a quid on it, he'll be a millionaire if it comes off. One Manchester side may drop down, maybe, but not both, no way. The top five are all unknown quantities for next season though, much transfer and managerial activity to come.

Well our bet is for lunch, bets for money between friends can often be awkward, though if he wants to find a bookmaker who'l give him a price he may well get some very long odds!

Okay we have a winner for silliest prediction, crikey. On what planet do the players that Manchester City have finish 11th!? It'd take a spectacular fragmentation in the dressing room and zero confidence in the new manager for them to come close to dropping out of Europe

1. Chelsea - The return of the 'special one.'

2. Manchester City - Pellegrini will only fall marginally short

3. Manchester United - A difficult first year for David Moyes, but will finish strongly.

4. Liverpool - Stability in the off-season and upward momentum under Rodgers.

------------------------------

5. Arsenal - They simply can't carry on creeping into the CL forever.

6. Tottenham - Bale will not be able to carry them on his own for two seasons in a row.

7. Swansea - More consistent league form from the Swans with no cup runs and added focus from a local rival.

8. Newcastle - A now stable squad will grow together.

9. Saints - Solid progress and at least a cup semi final please!

10. West Ham - Andy Carroll as the top English scorer. Hoofing their way to mid-table

11. Fulham - More 'meh'

12. Cardiff - Will surprise a few I feel, Malky Mackay will invest wisely.

13. Everton - Following Moyes/Baines/Fellaini will prove difficult for the next manager.

14. Aston Villa - A much more comfortable year but the young squad will still have their rocky moments.

15. Norwich - Failing to inspire but will do enough to survive.

16. West Brom - Steve Clarke's side will pay dearly for losing Lukaku. Their relatively poor form of only 4 league wins in 2012 from the second half of the season will carry over.

17. Stoke - Only just scrapping survival but on a downward spiral.

-----------------------------------------------------------

18 - Hull - Well organised but unmittigated tedium, simply cannot score.

19 - Sunderland - Will implode spectacularly, Di Canio will leave chaos in his wake.

20 - Palace/Watford - Pretty but not good enough, maybe the potential for either to 'do a Blackpool' and attack well and gain the neutral vote.

Bit harsh on Fulham IMO. Jol's done a good job there. Think they'll finish higher up. Would love Man City to implode as well but I think they'll just throw more money at it again.

1. Man Utd - Moyes will get the best out of squad with decent additions likely

2. Chelsea - Return of 'Special one' falls just short

3. Man City - Not enough goals, iffy defence (will win a cup)

4. Arsenal - Will once again do just enough, Wenger will leave at the end of season

5. Liverpool - Will be very close come the end of season

6. Spurs - Bale to leave in January to play for Utd

7. Swansea - Investment in summer, decent squad

8. SAINTS - Pushing for Europa league, depends on cup exploits may finish higher

9. Villa - One year on, only if they keep Benteke

10. Newcastle - Hangover from last season but late push will see them mid table

11. West Brom - Mixed campaign, decent outside bet for a cup

12. Everton - will lose Baines/Fellaini in summer, struggle until a late pick up in form

13. West Ham - Carroll injured mid way through season, goals dry up but just enough to stay up

14. Norwich - Mixed form, weaker teams in division

15. Cardiff - some experienced players, early season form gives them boost

16. Stoke - Hoooooooooof, stay up because some teams can't defend

17. Fulham - Stay up on last day of season

18. Sunderland - PDC found out by December, not enough quality to be saved

19. Hull - Poor team, struggle all season

20. Watford/Palace - Found out early, no money to save the situation (down by early April)

1) Chelsea - Strongest squad once they've spent even more money this summer and players will love Mourinho

2) United - Moyes is a good appointment and will do well but they overachieved this year with that squad

3) City - Players just don't seem to have the desire there anymore

4) Arsenal - looks as if they are finally going to spend big this summer

5) Liverpool - Rodgers is slowly making progress

6) Spurs - a one man team. Without bale they'd have been mid table this season and I think he'll leave

7) Saints - we'll spend big this summer

8) Everton - think they'll lose a few big players which will see them slip

9) Newcastle - Europe hurt them this year and think they'll be stronger next year

10) Aston Villa - think they'll keep Benteke and they'll be better with a year's experience behind them

11) West Ham - solid

12) Swansea - there aren't enough funds there to push them much further, and Europe will have an effect

13) Norwich

14) Cardiff - think they'll spend a bit and Mackay is a very good manager

15) Sunderland - will start badly. Di Canio gone by October

16) Stoke - new manager will try and get them playing football. Which is a recipe for disaster with that squad

17) West Brom - can see next year being a struggle for them

18) Fulham - ageing team. Think Jol will leave and poyet will replace him. Any injury to Berbatov and they could be in big trouble

19) Palace/Watford - cant see either spending enough but they each have 1 or 2 players who could make an impact unlike....

20) Hull - need to spend 30 million+ just to have a chance. Doubt they will spend that

Fulham have an aging squad and flirted with relegation towards the second half of this season. Just looking at the team that played Swansea in the last game, Luiz and Senderos are the only 2 players under 31 years old who aren't on loan. The likes of Duff, Berbatov, Riise, Karagounis and Schwarzer are approaching the end of their shelf life and there if little quality through the rest of their squad.

Hey, not bad :)

Swap Liverpool and Man Utd, move Palace up about 9 places and that's not a long way off the table now. It's a shame we didn't all put money on Saints finishing 8th. We would probably have enough money to buy Pompey, demolish FP and build an affordable housing complex.
