DuncanRG Posted 19 May, 2013 Share Posted 19 May, 2013 Does anyone else think that JWP might have a place in the midfield three next season? He looks very strong on the counterattack - aware of what's around him, two-footed, quick to move the ball and not bad along the ground either. He changed our dynamic at Sunderland last week and whenever we picked up the ball in midfield I was hoping it was him cause he can get things moving. If he's deployed there and he and Ramirez grow into the role I'm not sure we'd particularly need a signing - though I'm not sure I'd take the risk. itchen_dan Posted 19 May, 2013 Share Posted 19 May, 2013 Could be a big squad player for us next season. As you said, attacking wise he looks very gifted. Quick feet, bit of pace, great awareness. He's not afraid to get the ball and drive with it either. Playing in the hole is the best position for him I feel but could play either on the right or left as well and he'd offer us quality in possession. Won't be a starter, but i think he'll make more of an impact next season.
hypochondriac Posted 19 May, 2013 Share Posted 19 May, 2013 Has shown more promise than Adam this year.
Saint Garrett Posted 19 May, 2013 Share Posted 19 May, 2013 Been hugely impressed with him, he has so much confidence, and so talented. Will have a similar role next season I think.
SNSUN Posted 19 May, 2013 Share Posted 19 May, 2013 At the start of the season, especially against United, he looked very promising - and then sort of disappeared when Cork came back into the side. I look forward to seeing more of him next season.
AussieDog Posted 19 May, 2013 Share Posted 19 May, 2013 He's look very composed and assured, but he is still developing physically. If he can add a bit of muscle to his frame he can definitely make an impact next season, although I think it will be a couple of years before he really starts to impose himself. I just hope he remains patient and that we can keep hold of him as he is a great option from the bench.
Sour Mash Posted 19 May, 2013 Share Posted 19 May, 2013 I'm not a fan. Despite his useful cameo last week, I still think he's miles off. Centre mid is a very tough position to come into, but he wouldn't get a game for me.
The9 Posted 20 May, 2013 Share Posted 20 May, 2013 Has shown more promise than Adam this year. I don't think so.
CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 20 May, 2013 Share Posted 20 May, 2013 He's looks competitive enough in a PL midfield, and that's a real achievement for one so young, but if you asked me to list all the important contributions he's made this season then I'd struggle. So a young player who is very much still a 'work-in-progress' then. As for him already being better than Adam ... well that's just nonsense. Saint86 Posted 20 May, 2013 Share Posted 20 May, 2013 Has shown more promise than Adam this year. Change the record. Lallana has had some great spells this year but has been injured and subsequently in and out of the team and has lacked match sharpness. He had a great game vs stoke yesterday as well. Personally I would replace Lambert, and have JRod up front, lallana , punch and ramirez/davis
tajjuk Posted 20 May, 2013 Share Posted 20 May, 2013 I think a more advanced position suits him, he 'did a job' filling in for cork but doesn't have the defensive or physical side of his game to play the role regularly. He worked hard but found it difficult to influence the play. I think long term he'll be playmaker type player, seems good on both feet, low centre of gravity and happy to drive forward with ball. There's a little bit of Iniesta in him, if he could become half the player he has then we'd have a very good player on our hands.
Saint Garrett Posted 20 May, 2013 Share Posted 20 May, 2013 It would be nice to have a midfielder who can shoot from distance !
