End of Season Review: 14th Place - 41 points

Good season, petered out a bit but didn't matter. 14th perhaps could've been higher but it's a solid place to build on next season. It's now easier for us to say that next season is a success if we finish 13th or higher, as oppose to us finishing 10th/11th this season and slightly lower next season. Does that make sense?

As I just posted elsewhere;

For all our "brilliance", we could only draw with Stoke twice this year. Same goes for many of our so-called lesser opponents. And this is the problem, we can dominate possession and kill opponents with corners and intricate attacking moves but unless something comes of it then it's all absolutely worthless in the end.

I've no doubt we've got the more technically gifted players than Stoke (and a considerable amount of other sides in the top division) but unless we somehow find a cutting edge (possibly through player acquisition(s) or better coaching) then we'll struggle to go any higher than 10th. You can bloody well count Champions League out, that's for sure. Here's hoping it's addressed this summer.

Well done Saints on 14th, let's not stand still now. Go find us a Michu!

True, but the first game would've been 3 points but for a Cameron Jerome wonder goal. We still need to turn draws into wins, but under Pochettino I think we're in good hands.

Stoked and looking forward to the transfer gossip.

Great effort by the lads and with some new additions we could be good for next season.

Oh come on, surely i'm not the only one who picked up on your excellent terminology there! I'm quite "Stoked" too :)

Well, finishing 14 with one win in first 10 games and no win in last 6.

If you´ve had predicted that one before the start of the season you would be a very rich guy now....

All in all, I would call it a very very promising season and a fantastic foundation to build on.

After the West Brom away game when I called for Adkins to be sacked, I thought we would be relegated.

But since then, been fantastic, change of manager even though I was gutted at it.

14th is superb after two sucessive promotions, where did Norwich finish 1st season in prem after their two promotions?

I can't wait for next season now that the discussions with Cortese and Katharina Liebherr have been sorted out.

Would have snapped your hand off for 14th at the start of the season. And to think, because of how tight the midtable was this year, one more win would have put us up to 11th.

I do think the squad needs some major changes before next season though. The nucleus is there, but for all our pretty possession football this year we have really struggled to penetrate at times. We never seem to break quickly or play a quick ball forward to a runner, and that is something that you need in your arsenal in the PL. Defences are too good at this level meaning we will always struggle with our seemingly favoured approach of slow, patient build up.

Well considering this squad is good enough to finish 6th and 10th was nailed on a few weeks back some people will be outraged with 14th. Personally I'm happy with it though and more or less about where we deserve to finish.

Great 1st season IMO.

(Thank god we beat City, Liverpool & Chelsea @ St Mary's though!)

Yeah those games really saved our season. Strange that we won those but couldn't win at home against any of Wigan, Fulham, Norwich, Swansea, Sunderland, QPR, West Ham, West Brom or Stoke. OK, it's unrealistic to think we would win all of these games but they are the kind of matches that we'll need to be more consistent at winning if we are going to finish higher next year.

Why does damn near everything you post have a childish little sneer in it? You really are a sad little person.

In his defence, he's only responding to the b0ll0cks that's posted on here - of which there is a lot of.

The suggestions that we could finish 10th certainly weren't "b0ll0cks", as one look at the ends of season table shows.

But that's not the point. The point is that the forum is worse, not better, for thread after thread of his habitual sneering.

If I recall correctly, we should have been awarded a free kick for a foul on Shaw? just before the ball went out to Jerome, who was marginally offside when he received it. His finish can't be faulted, but the goal was a result of poor refereeing counting against us. That 3 points would have been very valuable to us.

Well, I'd disagree as I wasn't referencing that particular point about where we'd finish but yes, we could have done so... but we didn't.

There's a lot of people on here who swing wildly from one emotion/opinion to the other with little or no balance at all - the whole Cortese/Liebherr thing is demonstrative of that. Everything is rosy, then it's a crisis, then it's rosy, then it's a crisis. We've got CL quality players, then we've got L1 players, we need to spend, we don't need to spend, we should expand the stadium to 50,000... yes, a forum is about opinions but bloody hell there's a lot of shiiiite on here.

Can't see too much wrong with what Turkish has said - he's just called the people out who made the silly statements.

Back-to-back promotions with largely the same core group of players, our first season back in the Premiership and for many of our players, their first season at all in the Prem and we've finished safely and are competing well against experienced, established Premiership teams and players. We all know that just 'competing' isn't enough, but it's clear to see that we often dominate possession and we play with a creative and attacking flare that other teams strive for, which sets us up nicely for Season 2 in the Premiership. This level of performance for the first season is remarkable for a team that hasn't gone out and bought Premiership journeymen.

This season proves we are getting the basics right and have a really solid base to build on. We know we have technically gifted players and we know we have money to spend to improve, so next season will be the next step. It won't be top-5 finishes and European football, that's just not realistic, but everything is in place to make next season better than this one.

Considering coming up with two successive promotions and one of the worst starts to a season you can get....what a great position we finished in.

This.

Happy season back which could easily have seen us finish higher up.

Credit to every person at the club!

Slightly disappointed if I'm honest. At times this season our football has been sublime - both under Adkins and Pochettino.

But we've been horribly inconsistent and thrown away more points than a Tesco Clubcard promotion.

Factor in all the points given away from winning positions and we would have been closer to Arsenal and Spurs than Stoke!

We need to toughen up over the summer, identify where our strengths are and play to them, where are weaknesses are and work on them.

We were good enough to beat anybody on our day. We just need to make it our day more often.

The high will be beating Man Citeh. The low losing to Man United when we had them on the rack - TWICE!
