Crab Lungs Posted 19 May, 2013 Share Posted 19 May, 2013 For all our "brilliance", we could only draw with them twice. And this is the problem, we can dominate possession and kill opponents with corners and intricate attacking moves but unless something comes of it then it's all absolutely worthless in the end. I've no doubt we've got the more technically gifted players than Stoke (and a considerable amount of other sides in the top division) but unless we somehow find a cutting edge (possibly through player acquisition(s) or better coaching) then we'll struggle to go any higher than 10th. You can bloody well count Champions League out, that's for sure. Here's hoping it's addressed this summer. Well done Saints on 14th, let's not stand still now. Go find us a Michu! Saint Martini Posted 19 May, 2013 Share Posted 19 May, 2013 I totally agree, a shame Stoke got a few wins at the end because I would have loved to have seen them go down instead of Wigan. But if they don't change their team drastically they're going to have a difficult season next year. To carry on the moan, is Lee Probert the worst Ref in the Prem? Nah, watch the highlights of Spurs - Sunderland you'll see a ref booking Bale for a dive (when a penalty should have been given) and also not give to blatant handballs that should have led to penalties. Lee Probert was awesome in comparison.

Saint Garrett Posted 19 May, 2013 Share Posted 19 May, 2013 Everything I hate about football. Cynical fouls, clips on ankles when our players were trying to get away, kicking the ball away, time wasting, bullying tactics. Raging Bull Posted 19 May, 2013 Share Posted 19 May, 2013 I would dare to suggest that if their style doesn't change they'll be in trouble right from the start of next season. Even if Pulis does go the transition will take time and put them perilously close. Fans were top draw though.
K,Billy's supersound Posted 19 May, 2013 Share Posted 19 May, 2013 Stoke were crap and pullis is a total cock. Still i found watching pullis act like a 6 year old on the touch line quite amusing, throwing a paddy at every decsion that didnt go his teams way. Noticed he and his backroom staff were constantly in the ear of the fourth offical. Liked the moment he tried to get his team to take a quick throw in only for the ref to stop the game because we were making a sub, he proceeded to stomp around waving his arms around like harry enfeilds 'kevin' character. S-Clarke Posted 19 May, 2013 Share Posted 19 May, 2013 Nasty, ugly team, with niggly ugly football players. Their players really do fit the ''ugly'' team definition. Effective though, got to give them that. For all our nice possession and better quality, we haven't been able to beat them home or away. In the same way as WHU, they're irritating, but effective in what they do with the group of players they have. (and we didn't beat them home or away either!) John Boy Saint Posted 19 May, 2013 Share Posted 19 May, 2013 Liked the way Probert marked Nzonzi's card early doors when he was up to his tricks in the 6 yard box, the longer chat he had with him than Cork showed he knew the lay of the land. and Shawcross handing it out but Mithering like a child telling tales when he had been given some of his own medicine. Batman Posted 19 May, 2013 Share Posted 19 May, 2013 It's tragic when a young player comes through the ranks (shotton) and has a small towel sewn on the inside of his shirt so he can readily dry a ball for the big throw-in
CanadaSaint Posted 19 May, 2013 Share Posted 19 May, 2013 Stoke are at a real crossroads. Their fans want to see better football, especially with "newer" PL teams coming up and playing with some style, but they don't have the players and it will cost a fortune to make the change. On the other hand, this current squad has shown that it is potentially relegation material. They're in the "damned if they do, damned if they don't" corner. UpweySaint Posted 19 May, 2013 Share Posted 19 May, 2013 Just dull to watch. Me and my brother went and were playing "how long till its pumped long towards crouch" we counted a record high six passes before a big punt towards crouchy Fair to say Fonte handled him well too. Have to say though we haven't beaten them home away so good football only counts for so much without end product .. Either way fair play to the stoke fans a vocal bunch, honourable mention to their keeper and owen in his last game (I know views differ on him but growing up he was one of the best strikers around, not just for england, for my generation). The9 Posted 19 May, 2013 Share Posted 19 May, 2013 The thing I was most surprised about was them hoofing for Crouch's head. When he played for us, we passed (often long) to his upper body, and he usually pulled the ball down on his chest and laid off a high side-foot volley about 3-4ft off the ground which other players just couldn't defend without fouling him. Plus his heading wasn't all that great, they'd probably do a lot better using him to retain possession in the attacking third rather than just flicking on all the time. Saint Fan CaM Posted 20 May, 2013 Share Posted 20 May, 2013 It was a travesty that Stoke got anything out of that game given the style of football they play, but then they do have some good finishers and some real pace in the side. Trouble is they're told to play in a certain way by Pulis and that seems to be that. No wonder their own fans don't like him.

tajjuk Posted 20 May, 2013 Share Posted 20 May, 2013 Ugly football same with West Ham, but also we have 3 points from a possible 12 against these 'hoofball' teams so it's something Pochettino needs to look at, we need to get more efficient with our chances. Begovic will go and I think without serious investment that team will go down. I suspect Pulis might go and they will end up with a transition year because they have a collection of footballers who are basically set up to play that way.
