Are Stoke the ugliest 'football' team in the Premier?

For all our "brilliance", we could only draw with them twice. And this is the problem, we can dominate possession and kill opponents with corners and intricate attacking moves but unless something comes of it then it's all absolutely worthless in the end.

I've no doubt we've got the more technically gifted players than Stoke (and a considerable amount of other sides in the top division) but unless we somehow find a cutting edge (possibly through player acquisition(s) or better coaching) then we'll struggle to go any higher than 10th. You can bloody well count Champions League out, that's for sure. Here's hoping it's addressed this summer.

Well done Saints on 14th, let's not stand still now. Go find us a Michu!

I totally agree, a shame Stoke got a few wins at the end because I would have loved to have seen them go down instead of Wigan. But if they don't change their team drastically they're going to have a difficult season next year.

To carry on the moan, is Lee Probert the worst Ref in the Prem?

Nah, watch the highlights of Spurs - Sunderland you'll see a ref booking Bale for a dive (when a penalty should have been given) and also not give to blatant handballs that should have led to penalties. Lee Probert was awesome in comparison.

Word up here is that Pullis is off in the summer.

Thats been an open secret for months. The Stoke fans hate him. I used to live there and have loads of mates up that way, check some of the Stoke message boards. I'll be astonished if he's still there next season.

This is from club staff, not fans. He'll stay in some capacity I believe.

Stoke fans don't hate him at all, they just feel it's run it's course and want a change of direction.

You must know some different stokies than I do. One mate who lives in Nantwich told me he would never set foot in the Britannia again until Pulis leaves, and he's been a Stoke fan as long as I've known him (27 years.) I've heard the same thing from others, they dont call it football anymore, Stoke play "pulisball".

Everything I hate about football. Cynical fouls, clips on ankles when our players were trying to get away, kicking the ball away, time wasting, bullying tactics. They're very similar to West Ham and neither would be missed from this league.

Your dead right, plus a manager I cant stand.

Lived up here for 20 years and drink with & know plenty of season ticket holders, casual fans N40 etc. Worked in Stoke for 12 of those 20 years and will be back working there from September.

As I've said, they all want a change but appreciate everything he's done for the club, including a Wembley final.

League one teams play more atttactive football. I am embarrassed for their inbred fans. Remiscent of the skates some of the freaks I saw today.

Thought their fans were one of the best down here all season to be fair. Only them, qpr and west brom made any noise. Yeah they were game fuc.kers but that's football (and we were hardly angels at spurs the other week)

I'd add United, Arsenal and Chelsea (in the cup) to that list to be fair

Horrible football, but a well organised side. I thought QPR played better football than they did.

Managed by a man who lives his life with a baseball cap on his head?

...and they sing a song about murdering a woman, in this day and age!

as somoeone said earlier - thank goodness we only have them at SMS once a season!

Stoke were crap and pullis is a total cock. Still i found watching pullis act like a 6 year old on the touch line quite amusing, throwing a paddy at every decsion that didnt go his teams way. Noticed he and his backroom staff were constantly in the ear of the fourth offical. Liked the moment he tried to get his team to take a quick throw in only for the ref to stop the game because we were making a sub, he proceeded to stomp around waving his arms around like harry enfeilds 'kevin' character.

Nasty, ugly team, with niggly ugly football players. Their players really do fit the ''ugly'' team definition.

Effective though, got to give them that. For all our nice possession and better quality, we haven't been able to beat them home or away. In the same way as WHU, they're irritating, but effective in what they do with the group of players they have. (and we didn't beat them home or away either!)

Liked the way Probert marked Nzonzi's card early doors when he was up to his tricks in the 6 yard box, the longer chat he had with him than Cork showed he knew the lay of the land.

and Shawcross handing it out but Mithering like a child telling tales when he had been given some of his own medicine.

All they did was hoof it every time! Although, it was funny when we were singing 'we play on the floor' and then one of our defenders hoofed it. Stoke aren't a pretty team....

Funnily enough we were just talking about that and the perfect timing of the Hoof!! Very funny.

Stoke are at a real crossroads. Their fans want to see better football, especially with "newer" PL teams coming up and playing with some style, but they don't have the players and it will cost a fortune to make the change.

On the other hand, this current squad has shown that it is potentially relegation material.

They're in the "damned if they do, damned if they don't" corner.

Thank goodness I don't have to watch this team more than twice a season! A team of bruisers and with very little football ideas. Just my opinion.

Thought they had a lot more skill and ability than West Hoof.

"This is how we play at Southampton

This is called Total Football

We play it on the ground

You play f***ing hoofball

F***ing hoofball. F***ing hoofball."

I thank you

.

Better than the gash we're singing to that tune at the moment, anyway.

Just dull to watch. Me and my brother went and were playing "how long till its pumped long towards crouch" we counted a record high six passes before a big punt towards crouchy ;) Fair to say Fonte handled him well too.

Have to say though we haven't beaten them home away so good football only counts for so much without end product ..

Either way fair play to the stoke fans a vocal bunch, honourable mention to their keeper and owen in his last game (I know views differ on him but growing up he was one of the best strikers around, not just for england, for my generation).

The thing I was most surprised about was them hoofing for Crouch's head. When he played for us, we passed (often long) to his upper body, and he usually pulled the ball down on his chest and laid off a high side-foot volley about 3-4ft off the ground which other players just couldn't defend without fouling him.

Plus his heading wasn't all that great, they'd probably do a lot better using him to retain possession in the attacking third rather than just flicking on all the time.

But then look at Delaps throw ins for us it was just a long pass back to the oppos keeper everytime, for Stoke it became a lethal weapon.

It was a travesty that Stoke got anything out of that game given the style of football they play, but then they do have some good finishers and some real pace in the side. Trouble is they're told to play in a certain way by Pulis and that seems to be that. No wonder their own fans don't like him.

Very true. He was fairly decent with the ball at his feet too in those days. Did not see it happen yesterday though

Yeah, must be terrible 'footy' we weren't able to beat them once this season, what a disgrace.

The question posed by the OP wasn't whether their game is effective, points-wise. Its whether they are the ugliest football team in the prem.

Ugly football same with West Ham, but also we have 3 points from a possible 12 against these 'hoofball' teams so it's something Pochettino needs to look at, we need to get more efficient with our chances.

Begovic will go and I think without serious investment that team will go down. I suspect Pulis might go and they will end up with a transition year because they have a collection of footballers who are basically set up to play that way.

poor side who will slowly slide down the league , replacing players that has made them successful over the last few years will become more and more difficult. they have bought the best cloggers and giants football has, their replacements will lead to relegation in 2/3 years
