Horton Heath Saint Posted 18 May, 2013 Posted 18 May, 2013 I really believe that we will take the next step up. No mediocre players anymore, no Hammond, Fox, De Prado etc Cortese will be looking at top six with major signings after meeting with Liebherrs. Liebherrs will also seek return on investment. Works both ways. What a wonderful ride this is!!!
sussexsaint Posted 18 May, 2013 Posted 18 May, 2013 Unlike our fishy friends, I am confident we are doing it right has well. Exciting times indeed.
Baldbarbarian Posted 18 May, 2013 Posted 18 May, 2013 The likes of Chaplow/Hammond/Guly/Fox did us proud on our rise from League 1, agree they no longer meet the required standard. Exciting times ahead!
saints_is_the_south Posted 18 May, 2013 Posted 18 May, 2013 Harsh to describe Fox, Guly and Hammond as that. All did a job, and a very good job at that, for us in League 1 and the Championship and have all contributed to us being where we are today. They might not be at the level that we now require, but we shouldn't forget where we have come from. That said, I am extremely extremely excited about our future. I have been since about Feb/March time tbh, when our PL status for next season was looking more or less secure barring an absolute disaster. Today's news was brilliant, because like him or loathe him, had NC walked then I really believe this club would have found itself in turmoil. Now everyone can concentrate on building for next season, with no distractions or speculation and hopefully the club can deliver what MP wants by 1st July, and if not all of it but most of it.

Agree. It is too easy to forget that, and diminish their efforts, and impact in our rise. Chaplow, and Hammond will always have a special place in our history for me, and I wish them well as we appear to have moved on. Similarly, for Sharp, would applaud any of them on returning to SMS.

A thread paraising their efforts and others from our more lowly period would certainly be more worthwhile and a better read than many of the speculation threads we have to endure.

Any player who has been a prominent part of the Liebherr/Cortese and rise from League 1 era that has now left, should always get a good reception at SMS. Unless it is Connolly in a skate shirt (for another team he'd also be entitled to a warm welcome.)

Well said. I'd add Fox and Guly to that list myself, all contributed.

I did highlight Guly in the original post I replied to although did not mention specifically in my reply. Yes, he did contribute, although he was , and is, inconsistent my favourite Guly moment was the goal v Bristol Rovers at home, 1-0 , but so important as the season drew out. Fox in the Championship offered something and contributed, especially going forward.
