kwsaint Posted 18 May, 2013 Share Posted 18 May, 2013 A mate of mine used to kinda support Portsmouth going to perhaps a couple of games a year. But when we were both in the championship he said he hated the atmosphere down there and prefered watching us. Do we accept these people?

dubai_phil Posted 18 May, 2013 Share Posted 18 May, 2013 One of the lads in the Village Cricket club was a Skate, Couple of others were football fans, They went to Saints games at the Dell back in the mid 80's when they could (before All-Seater) and Bompey when they wanted a day out. They used to go to SMS 2 or 3 times a season When we were rubbish they went down to skatemuff to watch their football as the skate would drive them down in his otherwise empty car. They knew as much about Saints and our tactics as most on here do (in fact more than some of the Numpties) Likewise they knew about the skates when they went down there. They were fans of football, just never fans of a team. I know one of them has been to SMS a couple of times this season and enjoyed it, Sure he'll go again. I have no issue with it, he never goes to games that would sell out as he usually only decides to go the day before a game anyway.

Still don't need any of "the bestest" though. Used to go to Bournemouth on occasions myself when Saints were away, then again I lived in Dorset at the time..Never classed myself as a Bournemouth fan though, always Saints but the football wasn't bad down there at one time and incredibly cheap. DuncanRG Posted 18 May, 2013 Share Posted 18 May, 2013 Not bothered - never got the utter hatred of everything to do with them. They're hardly a 'proper skate' if they convert to Southampton anyway, are they?

Miltonaggro Posted 18 May, 2013 Share Posted 18 May, 2013 Something we will have to get used to. The skates have been a total noddy club since the 1950s, apart from the recent nine year flirtation with the big time founded on debt and corruption which may yet see them cease to exist. At the moment there are probably about 10k of their knuckle draggers staying faithful to the cause, watch this drop when the are still in division four in couple of years time. The fair weather skates and border people will have to go to SMS if they want to see top flight football locally in their lifetime, so take their money. Remember now NC has got clearance for the expansion we are going to need to find 20,000 new punters...

DuncanRG Posted 18 May, 2013 Share Posted 18 May, 2013 Never got the hatred? Wow. Not when it's against everything that's got a thing to do with them - I consider hatred a strong word. I'd say I dislike them strongly, especially certain characters, and the derbies are obviously a big deal but I wouldn't think less of someone just for being a Pompey fan. That kind of attitude can and has lead to problems This lad used to have a Pompey season ticket... I did enjoy this though
Turkish Posted 18 May, 2013 Share Posted 18 May, 2013 I'm pretty sure there were train and busloads of ex Pompey fans coming to SMS in their thousands this season to watch premier league football.

Miltonaggro Posted 19 May, 2013 Share Posted 19 May, 2013 Pompey fans converted to Saints eh Milton? Good point, their maximum gate in the Premiership was around 18000, we'll have to pick up the other 2000 from the Bognor Brighton contingent to fill the stadium...
