Cortese to stay

Saint Garrett

Recommended Posts

I am glad that, for once, we have stability moving into the close season and on to the next. This rarely seems to happen with us. We now have a very solid foundation, an ambitious chairman and, hopefully, some finance.

I, too, have some misgivings about Cortese's single minded approach and his midas touch is unlikely to last forever. It is, however, much better than the alternative of looking for a new manager and chairman as we prepare for yet another season of improvement. This next step upwards is the toughest of all. I have genuine doubts that we can progress much further without a significant increase in revenue. At least we can have a shot at it now.

Good stunt. Get a good feeling amongst the fanbase in time for a winnable final game and the impending 15% hike on ST/ticket prices. Clever bloke that Cortese.

Glad he's staying though, not that it was in much doubt.

Delighted it was all sorted before the pre-season. Before the last match FFS. 10 years ago, this would have been a drama that played out over the closed season while Alpine popped like popcorn in a microwave.

Nice to see an overwhelmingly positive message via the official site too. Not just an "it's all ok" message but one promising much for the next few years. How unsaintly. How marvellous :)

P.S. I appreciate MLG missed the sarcasm earlier but that's easy enough on a forum. Can we all play the ball and not the man please? It's a forum not a turkey shoot ;)

Did anyone seriously think that they weren't going to do this deal?

SFC has been a really good investment for the Liebherrs thanks to NC and the staff.

They weren't going to throw that all away just as the club are at a point where they could push for the big time.

Ah, the rush to ensure that they don't look like fools for making a mountain out of a molehill. Swing the argument back at us, good one.

I always said under the right circumstances I would like him to leave. As I never thought he was going to leave I'm not disappointed that he is staying (as I never thought he was going to leave.)

Of course, as the masses on Southsea common will attest, the only noble thing is to be there for the FA cup and fukc off when things turn bad. Best not to try to make wine with those sour grapes and just move straight on to making vinegar. Plenty of chips (particularly on shoulders) to soak it up.

Just woken up. Switched on BBC text and saw the news grabbed iPad to read this thread . Really excellent news confirming my belief NC was always going to stay . Katherine like her father before her is a quiet unassuming person . They never hog the limelight . She's just happy for all the joy she and her dad gave to all us saints fans .

Who can ever forget Her dads massive smile at Wembley when we won the Johnstone paint trophy . One of the most iconic moments for me in the many many years I have supported saints .

Ps why do the BBC still try to stir it up . Instead they raise the issue of MP leaving early on in their report about nc . What ****s

Well, he didn't threaten to leave did he? He said if Cortese wasn't there it wouldn't be right for him to be there. He was asked a straight question and gave a straight answer. People chose to interpret it as a threat to leave. Mountains and molehills.

Still it, must stick in the craw of famous Pompey fan Mr Darke.

I'm in agreement with alpine_saint.

This is a disaster for the club. We are certain to be relegated next season, and possibly even get relegated this weekend.

No players will ever sign for Southampton with this level of uncertainty.

In other news......get the fook in!!!!

now if he'd wrapped it up in a shedload of clichés about controlling the controlables, drawing blue lines, getting off the bus at the terminus and thrown in a quote from The Art of War nobody would have taken a blind bit of notice.

Well not looked since yesterday evening & a nice surprise this morning. Glad this is settled so quickly the Don can carry his vision forward. As for Ian Darke Lol no sour grapes there then.

I feel slightly uncomfortable with Pochettino's comments, but I guess he is just being honest & they way of football today.

You just have to look at Mancini at city.

If I took a job on the back of a vision and promises of commitment to back that vision and four months later it all turned out to be baloney I suspect I would consider my options. I really don't see the issue.

It's only parochial, tin-pot outfits like Pompey that would even bother running the "here for the love of the club" ******** in the first place.

I suspect this was never a big deal. I reckon some journals got wind of the strategy talks and it all escalated. I think Cortese may have played it up a but for the Lolz to be fair.

Great news and great timing. Shame it came out in the media the way it did but it seemed to have a uniting effect which was a positive thing. Agreed seems strange he did not acknowledge the fans IMO.

Seems cortese called the trusts bluff a little on this one, but with clarity of ownership and a very positive statement about future plans, everyone seems onside which is great. In the medium term it seems the trust will continue to fund us.

Big thanks to the trust and NC for not dragging this out & their continued support.

Not a Cortese fan but this is good news. At least it brings some stability and it's been resolved quickly, which must be a first for Saints as they usually let things drag on all summer.

Very much agree with this, though i do hope we still question the ownership and what they're doing. The last thing i'd want is to bury our heads in the sand skates style

Great news. Never thought he'd leave in my heart of hearts, but always a worry with what was being said.

Looks like we've got the ownership sorted too with a clear vision. All very positive.

3rd positive is that I can now come and read this forum again as before this news it was even more tedious than normal.

"We are now in a position to move forward with our ambitious plans for the Club". Nicola Cortese, 18th May 2013

And this is Cortese's ambition for the club...

;)

is that the Spinnaker Tower on top of the building? clad in glass and diamonds. We may just buy it as a mere trinket to play with, the rumour is that we are also going to have the Victory brought here as the RN are worried it will be renamed the Home Defeat if it stays in Pompey any longer

"Still it, must stick in the craw of famous Pompey fan Mr Darke."

Who has now been usurped as Sky's top boxing commentator by dyed-in-the-wool Saints fain Nick Halling, by the looks of things.

'Inky's' decision to join ESPN is not looking so hot now Sky have bumped them off their platform, and BT are picking them up piecemeal.

I suppose he's hoping to get some football commentaries off BT next season, although they might have their team in place.

Sarcasm on an interent forum is hard to determine without tone.

This is true, but if you'd read the other thread, and witnessed the posters claiming that NC was a poor to average chairman, it'd make more sense. Our twice digging friend hit a veritable goldmine when people pretended to know about football. It was good for lols.

Though it may likely have been a ploy, there are very few people willing to put their job and career on the line, the fact other were also willing to do so, shows that there is a definite togetherness about the club, I believe NC got exactly the kind of commitment he needed to put Saints into the top of the top League, it may take a few seasons, but Saints are not only here to stay in the PL, but will be pushing for top four in three seasons? LIVE THE DREAM!

By the way...Pompey a good local community team, soon to be in the local league! "

How must it feel to be Pompey....how must it feel to be poor?" Even Bright and Bourne are now two leagues above them! The Shame!
