ToreSF Posted 16 May, 2013 Posted 16 May, 2013 Shows that also the players are behind Cortese in the power struggle with the Liebherr trust. What a mess this is.
trousers Posted 16 May, 2013 Posted 16 May, 2013 If Cortese, Pochettino and the players all go then I'm quitting this message board too.... #everycloud
Sour Mash Posted 16 May, 2013 Posted 16 May, 2013 I'm waiting to hear what Johnno Quick's take is on the situation before I make up my mind any further.
Barry Sanchez Posted 16 May, 2013 Posted 16 May, 2013 Them quitting to be fair wont stop the Leibherrs wanting to sell at a high price, why invest if they want out? It would make no difference to them if the regime was there or not as a new one would probably bring in their own. No doubt on the cheap as thats something we have been used to before they arrived.
S-Clarke Posted 16 May, 2013 Posted 16 May, 2013 The BBC have done a great job of swinging Morgans words around right there.
Avenue Saint Posted 16 May, 2013 Posted 16 May, 2013 What's becoming clear is that the remaining Liebhers want to make money out of us but Cortese really wants to carry on his and Markus' plans who had a passion for the Club to take it to the top! It would be crazy not to back the sole man who from all good things club related are stemming from. Ideally, it looks like best thing would be for Cortese to find some new backers. What is so promising is that whilst being involved in extended Liebherr businesses, Cortese's passion for Saints is that great, he is willing to cut all links, as is obvious would be the case given the now, very public stance. Back Cortese, under him we will transform...
aintforever Posted 16 May, 2013 Posted 16 May, 2013 It's not about Cortese or Poch, it's about the money. The Leibherrs obviously don't want to chuck millions at it and Cortese has obviously told everyone there was a bottomless pit. Not a good situation at all.

Er no its not. Cortese wants the Liebherrs to fund his grandious ambitions, pay him £2m a year and to otherwise butt out and have no say. Oddly enough they don't seem too comfortable with that.
The9 Posted 16 May, 2013 Posted 16 May, 2013 Is this the thread for announcing my international retirement ? No ? Sorry, carry on.

The Leibherrs obviously don't want to chuck millions at it and Cortese has obviously told everyone there was a bottomless pit. Not a good situation at all. Er no its not. Cortese wants the Liebherrs to write him a blank cheque to fund his grandious ambitions and to otherwise butt out and have no say. Oddly enough they don't seem too comfortable with that. Neither of these things are at all clear at this point, and probably won't be until one or the other announces an agreement - but by all means entrench yourselves in a position.
Bearsy Posted 16 May, 2013 Posted 16 May, 2013 really can't see any fans turning up at SMS next season if nicola ain't there.
saint_kev Posted 16 May, 2013 Posted 16 May, 2013 It was Cortese that persuaded Morgan to sign a new contract, so his position is no surprise.
The9 Posted 16 May, 2013 Posted 16 May, 2013 You're the media's dream aren't you. Your kind will keep the Daily Mail going for many years. Believe absolutely anything, so long as it's negative, and ridiculously easy to manipulate into an ignorant hysterical rage. Fair point. Raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaage ! Buys newspaper, Raaaaaaaaaaage ! Explained by sensible person, backtracks on rage.

Its not entrenched, Im open to new information. But which parts aren't true? 1. Cortese has said he wants CL football and presumably you don't deny this would entail major investment in players which the club cant generate itself aka he wants the Liebherrs to fund his grandious ambitions. 2. Widespread reports say Cortese wants to continue in sole control (admittedly not definitive proof). Its more likely than Avenue's saint's post. Edited 16 May, 2013 by buctootim
The9 Posted 16 May, 2013 Posted 16 May, 2013 It was Cortese that persuaded Morgan to sign a new contract, so his position is no surprise. More likely that the Liebherr family are not likely to engage in such transparent media manipulation, so Cortese has free reign in getting everyone to say what he wants them to. Does beg the question "who pays the players?" though.

Secondly, if you dont like my reaction, stop stalking my posts and ignore them..
stevegrant Posted 16 May, 2013 Posted 16 May, 2013 It was Cortese, armed with a nice big (well-deserved) offer of a pay rise and a near-guarantee of first team football in the Premier League, that persuaded Morgan to sign a new contract, so his position is no surprise. Fixed.

buctootim Posted 16 May, 2013 Posted 16 May, 2013 1 and 2. 3 is what has been reported. I make that 66.67% proven with the rest a fair hypothesis. 1. That you need mega millions to challenge for champions league and the club ain't got it unless the owners stump up again 2. He earned £1.5m last year (in the championship) 3. Journos are reporting he wants assurances about sole access to the train set.
The9 Posted 16 May, 2013 Posted 16 May, 2013 sky I mean "is it Cortese or the Family who pays the money into the account that gets sent to the players?".
St_Tel49 Posted 16 May, 2013 Posted 16 May, 2013 (edited) The BBC have done a great job of swinging Morgans words around right there. Indeed. Morgan said no more than the commonsense point that if Cortese left and Pochettino with him then of course it leaves players in a new position. But I suspect that he, and every other player, would wait to see what followed - exactly as they did with the new manager. It must be said that if the Leibhers let NC go then they must have some sort of succession planned otherwise their famed business nous would be shown to be a myth. Mallagroth Posted 16 May, 2013 Posted 16 May, 2013 (edited) Together as one. I like this even though it's a ****take, it's still a good point. At least they are all standing together over this (at least verbally), it would be more awkward if players were to stand up and say 'I don't give a **** who the chairman is as long as I get my wedge each month' Edited 16 May, 2013 by Mallagroth clarification

There's no proof of motive on either Cortese or the Family's part, nor is there any proof that the Family weren't going to fund CL football anyway without Cortese's posturing, or that Cortese does actually want to pursue the CL ambitions, or any proof of the £2m wage figure you've quoted. Basically, I'm arguing that we don't know the specific reasons for the current positions, and you've decided exactly what they are why it's happening.
The9 Posted 16 May, 2013 Posted 16 May, 2013 Oh Jesus. Which bit in particular ? I'm pretty sure the players will say whatever they think the person they consider their boss would like them to say.

With respect your original statements were your take on things. It may be true or not true - neither you nor I know
St_Tel49 Posted 16 May, 2013 Posted 16 May, 2013 Amidst all the speculation, assumption and comment can I throw in another thought. Perhaps the differences between the Trust and Cortese are less about long term objectives and more about how quickly to achieve them. Maybe NC wants to travel faster than the Trust are comfortable with.
Turkish Posted 16 May, 2013 Posted 16 May, 2013 what did you expect him to say? Does anyone seriously think a club employee would come out and say "the blokes a c8nt and i'll be happy if he goes"? Cortese is his paymaster and just given him a nice new contract and payrise, how many other players have slagged off the club chairman in similar circumstances?
Bearsy Posted 16 May, 2013 Posted 16 May, 2013 how many other players have slagged off the club chairman in similar circumstances? christ turkish how the f*ck should i know? why is you always asking questions like this, you seem to think we're encyclopedias or something!
Saints Warrior Posted 16 May, 2013 Posted 16 May, 2013 If you don't want to play for the club while on £1m wages then get lost. Football clubs don't need time wasters . Get lost and duck off to Man City .

I assume given this attitude that you'll be popping off to Fratton, where all of their players will be playing for their sorry careers next season for a pittance, or is that too much like self preservation ?
ART Posted 16 May, 2013 Posted 16 May, 2013 Next stage of this scenario is the supporters announcing they will boycott St Mary's if Cortesé leaves. If I was a Liebherr I'd let everyone know I'd too be leaving and pulling the plug on future investment and putting the club on the market.

Funnily enough one of the posters on here has already done that.
Ziggy Posted 16 May, 2013 Posted 16 May, 2013 We're all doomed. How much would it cost me to own the Skates? Presumably cheaper than a season ticket at the Saints. I'll sleep on it.
Dr Who? Posted 16 May, 2013 Posted 16 May, 2013 Never a dull day at Southampton Football Club. Well I enjoyed the last 4 seasons. 5 year plan they said, we are suppose to implode at the end of next season, as champions.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 16 May, 2013 Posted 16 May, 2013 If i owned the club id seriously be considering either sacking or suspending Pinocchio in the morning!
Turkish Posted 16 May, 2013 Posted 16 May, 2013 Funnily enough one of the posters on here has already done that. I would urge everyone to consider their positions as fans. This club is NOTHING without Cortese.
The9 Posted 16 May, 2013 Posted 16 May, 2013 I would urge everyone to consider their positions as fans. This club is NOTHING without Cortese. Just a photo on Mickey Fialka's mum's wall.
ART Posted 16 May, 2013 Posted 16 May, 2013 I would urge everyone to consider their positions as fans. This club is NOTHING without Cortese. They all said Rome would be nothing without Caesar, but they survived and moved on to greater things. Cortesé isn't the be and end all of Southampton Football Club. There is still room for many improvements, notable the transfer committee and stooges who advise Cortesé on footballing matters. Being in Di Matteo in place of Reed would do much to improve things.
