Them quitting to be fair wont stop the Leibherrs wanting to sell at a high price, why invest if they want out? It would make no difference to them if the regime was there or not as a new one would probably bring in their own.

 

 

No doubt on the cheap as thats something we have been used to before they arrived.

What's becoming clear is that the remaining Liebhers want to make money out of us but Cortese really wants to carry on his and Markus' plans who had a passion for the Club to take it to the top!

 

It would be crazy not to back the sole man who from all good things club related are stemming from.

 

Ideally, it looks like best thing would be for Cortese to find some new backers.

 

What is so promising is that whilst being involved in extended Liebherr businesses, Cortese's passion for Saints is that great, he is willing to cut all links, as is obvious would be the case given the now, very public stance.

 

Back Cortese, under him we will transform...

Its not entrenched, Im open to new information. But which parts aren't true?

 

1. Cortese has said he wants CL football and presumably you don't deny this would entail major investment in players which the club cant generate itself aka he wants the Liebherrs to fund his grandious ambitions.

2. Widespread reports say Cortese wants to continue in sole control (admittedly not definitive proof).

 

Its more likely than Avenue's saint's post.

It was Cortese that persuaded Morgan to sign a new contract, so his position is no surprise.

 

More likely that the Liebherr family are not likely to engage in such transparent media manipulation, so Cortese has free reign in getting everyone to say what he wants them to.

 

Does beg the question "who pays the players?" though.

Indeed. Morgan said no more than the commonsense point that if Cortese left and Pochettino with him then of course it leaves players in a new position. But I suspect that he, and every other player, would wait to see what followed - exactly as they did with the new manager. It must be said that if the Leibhers let NC go then they must have some sort of succession planned otherwise their famed business nous would be shown to be a myth.

I like this even though it's a ****take, it's still a good point. At least they are all standing together over this (at least verbally), it would be more awkward if players were to stand up and say 'I don't give a **** who the chairman is as long as I get my wedge each month'

There's no proof of motive on either Cortese or the Family's part, nor is there any proof that the Family weren't going to fund CL football anyway without Cortese's posturing, or that Cortese does actually want to pursue the CL ambitions, or any proof of the £2m wage figure you've quoted.

 

Basically, I'm arguing that we don't know the specific reasons for the current positions, and you've decided exactly what they are why it's happening.

Amidst all the speculation, assumption and comment can I throw in another thought. Perhaps the differences between the Trust and Cortese are less about long term objectives and more about how quickly to achieve them. Maybe NC wants to travel faster than the Trust are comfortable with.

what did you expect him to say? Does anyone seriously think a club employee would come out and say "the blokes a c8nt and i'll be happy if he goes"? Cortese is his paymaster and just given him a nice new contract and payrise, how many other players have slagged off the club chairman in similar circumstances?

I assume given this attitude that you'll be popping off to Fratton, where all of their players will be playing for their sorry careers next season for a pittance, or is that too much like self preservation ?

Next stage of this scenario is the supporters announcing they will boycott St Mary's if Cortesé leaves. If I was a Liebherr I'd let everyone know I'd too be leaving and pulling the plug on future investment and putting the club on the market.

I would urge everyone to consider their positions as fans. This club is NOTHING without Cortese.

They all said Rome would be nothing without Caesar, but they survived and moved on to greater things. Cortesé isn't the be and end all of Southampton Football Club. There is still room for many improvements, notable the transfer committee and stooges who advise Cortesé on footballing matters. Being in Di Matteo in place of Reed would do much to improve things.
