The9 Posted 16 May, 2013 Share Posted 16 May, 2013 Address the point, FFS. Would you go to a club not knowing who is running it or coaching you in a few weeks time ? Like Forren did ? The fact that player contracts are usually 3-5 years and outstrip all but the most hardy managerial careers at this point makes this a non-factor. Now if you'd said "do you think people will sign not knowing if we'll have the funding to pay their contracts" that might be more relevant - though as that lot down the road have shown, players are stupid (or desperate) with stuff like this, and the PFA protects their earnings and they get them somehow anyway, so even that's not really a factor. warsash saint Posted 16 May, 2013 Share Posted 16 May, 2013 Its all going a bit tits-up, isnt it ? If MP is now being dragged into what is developing into a very public spat between NC and the Liebherrs, both sides must be fairly deeply entrenched. This is going to take ages and seriously f**k up next season. Serious risk of relegation next season. Alpine sets new record by predicting relegation by 2nd week of May ..... 12 months in advance
BARCELONASAINT Posted 16 May, 2013 Share Posted 16 May, 2013 whatever the truth is out there ......for one thing it is very unsettling for the fans and the players. Sure this may be all a big game being played out to manouverve the owners into making the correct decision that most fans want to see.....stability!....and that means NC staying......but if there really is a chance that NC is walking away then i honestly think its a complete disaster and all the good work done since his arrival will have been for nothing! brmbrm Posted 16 May, 2013 Share Posted 16 May, 2013 I don't doubt Cortese would be in demand, he's got a bit of a higher profile than most Swiss bankers at the moment though. Don't you think this might all have a significant effect on our ability to retain said players though ? Yes, I think stability, continuity and a long-term vision/plan will influence players coming to the club. But we will only get that stability if NC (and not just him, the trust etc etc) are committed. If he is not committed, then it is potentially destabilising, hence the situation needs to be resolved, and much of that is down to NCs decision. Wrong analogy maybe, but the ManUre chairman doesn't pack this sort of sad. (Is he Swiss? Dammit, I thought he was Italian!)

The9 Posted 16 May, 2013 Share Posted 16 May, 2013 Guh, it's just occurred to me why Cortese might have chosen to leak it now. Knowing he had Pochettino's support, they've allowed a week to build the panic, so Cortese and Pochettino get tangible backing from a worried crowd at the final home game of the season, thus strengthening his negotiating position further. I wish he'd spend as much time planning the ticketing and kit launches.

He's Swiss-Italian, but his banking to my knowledge was done in Switzerland, not that I am massively interested or certain of that, or even bothered enough to Google. Besides, Swiss Banker is a much more familiar term. The Man U Chairman also knows there are thousands of people out there who'd want his job in a heartbeat, it's a tad more global and a little more glam than Saints... for now. studentsaint Posted 16 May, 2013 Share Posted 16 May, 2013 What a tw*t. I personally don't want a manager that only wants to perform for the chairman. This shows me he has no allegiance to the club. Saint J 77 Posted 16 May, 2013 Share Posted 16 May, 2013 Whenever something good happens for Saints, there is always some bad or unsettling news that follows shortly afterwards. Its a pattern that has happened a lot in recent years. It may well be true the club is just about to implode and undo all the good work thats happened in the last few years but to be honest I just don't think it is worth worrying about it right now. This is going to drag on for some time I reckon. Its obviously going to effect us badly next season through lack of preparation and signings etc. I think we should expect the worse and get on with our lives. Lets not waste time worrying about it. Then things can surely only end up being better than we could hope for.

BotleySaint Posted 16 May, 2013 Share Posted 16 May, 2013 All Pochettino is saying is that he feels he has Nicola's support and was made assurances by him. If he leaves he'll be left with none of those assurances. The only thing I'm not sure about is why he has to tell the media. Unless he's naive or Cortese put him up to it to apply some leverage to his side of the 'argument' he is having with the Trust.

richardc Posted 16 May, 2013 Share Posted 16 May, 2013 The reason that I can see that MP has come out and said he would leave that is NC has spoken to him about the alternative vision that the Leibherrs might have - This could be significant differences in the level of investment that is either side see as required or possibly the degree of negotiation that is required to release the funds. Basically NC has had it his own way up until now and he is not happy that the Leibherrs dont want him to have total control over the amount of money that we are now talking about
