Saint Garrett Posted 16 May, 2013 Share Posted 16 May, 2013 (edited) would we not?. We seem to think that now we are in the Premier League and have a bit of money behind us we are able to keep hold of our better players whatever the price. 1.2million in 2008 - 10/12 in 2013 isnt a bad bit of business. I hope its all a load of BS but lets be realistic here, it would seriously improve his chances of international football which we know Morgan wants Good bit of business to sell our best player (by a distance), for £12m?! Thats not a lot for the premier league, especially with the money involved next season. Edited 16 May, 2013 by Saint Garrett
tajjuk Posted 16 May, 2013 Share Posted 16 May, 2013 and if a champions league club comes in for him with a £10m bid and his head gets turned we have an entirely different scenario and who could blame him. I would imagine his performances this season mean he would be on a lot of clubs radar, they certainly wont start the bidding at £20m because you say so!! List the players in his position, with zero international caps that have gone for £20m in the past few years. Defensive midfielders dont attract the same sort of fees as attacking players. Jordan Henderson? Had one friendly cap at the time. Joe Allen? went for £15 million and well anyone that plays professional football and has welsh heritage can get capped for Wales so I doubt his international status played much part. Lampard bought for £11 million in 2001 and like Henderson only had 1 friendly cap. Phil Jones? £17 million and hadn't got a cap before he played for Utd. (Chris Smalling was £10 million and he'd only played about a dozen premier league games)
alpine_saint Posted 16 May, 2013 Share Posted 16 May, 2013 Without NC as gatekeeper, some team will pick him up at a bargain price. Just watch the vultures start circling the longer this Cortese business continues...
UpweySaint Posted 16 May, 2013 Share Posted 16 May, 2013 20million is seriously overestimating Morgan's value but realistically we should be fighting tooth and nail to keep our French star. Value is subjective. He is that important to us then his value is simply the price at which we'l sell. Personally I wouldn't sell for a jot under twenty unless morgan really wanted to leave. St_Tel49 Posted 16 May, 2013 Share Posted 16 May, 2013 His age, his ability and the fact he has just signed a new contract, I wouldn't want him sold for anything less than 15 million. I don't want him sold - full stop. FWIW I don't believe that he particularly wants to leave - just my opinion.

If we got 15M for a 17 year old who had never played above L1 before, why would we accept less for Morgan who has proven himself in the prem, just signed a contract and is a more accomplished player in his position? FWIW I don't believe that he particularly wants to leave - just my opinion. he doesn't want to leave but he wants to progress. If we're not progressing he may change his mind. He's already said that if a top 4 club came in for him and the deal was right for both himself and the club then he would ask for it to be considered.... Basically he's got a top 4 and right price buy out clause in that new contract of his.Feel free to speculate on the amount.........

I would hate for Morgan to go but I feel if the big boys come calling then heads could be turned especially with a possibility of a World Cup 2014 place at stake for the lad. I guess we can argue all day long, there is no way I can be convinced that Morgan will go for 10-12M. If he does leave, it will be for more than that IMO. Whoever is in charge (and the likelyhood is that it will still be NC), they would be a mug to let him leave for that. Morgan himself recently signed a contract for us. He and his agent are not stupid, they would have known that there will be big interest in the summer given his performances this season but that hasn't stopped him committing his future to us. S-Clarke Posted 16 May, 2013 Share Posted 16 May, 2013 Get used to it, this is what we'll get every week during this window. Shaw, Morgan, Clyne, Lallana.....then it'll rotate again. All 4 of those will be heavily linked away for the next 10 weeks. It's going to be uncomfortable or a bit, but I believe we can keep them. Anyway, the Italian league is anon-league these days. Can't see why anyone would move there to progress their career, it's dog ****.

rshephard3 Posted 16 May, 2013 Share Posted 16 May, 2013 20million is seriously overestimating Morgan's value but realistically we should be fighting tooth and nail to keep our French star. How so? He has made "stars" like Yaya Toure and Steven Gerrard look utterly inept this season and has been our best player in the prem. He is young, hungry and a rare breed of box to box midfielders who can score goals. I'd go as far as to say we wouldn't be interested at anything less than £20 million. Who can you find for less than that who will guarantee you they will hold their own against the best teams in the world?

S-Clarke Posted 16 May, 2013 Share Posted 16 May, 2013 If Jordan Henderson is worth £16m, Morgan has to be worth at least that. Streets ahead of him. Totally with that, and also Joe Allen...£15m. Downing, 18m. Sorry, but come on....Morgan is better than those players, so is worth at least the same or maybe a bit more. Anyone saying we're overestimating his value, is simply underestimating the current market value for players.
melmacian_saint Posted 16 May, 2013 Share Posted 16 May, 2013 That won't happen, Inter are in disarray financially and Moratti is being unprecendently prudent with his spending.
