Saints players going into management

This thread is inspired by the appointment of James Beattie as Accrington Stanley manager in the last hour.

Did you ever think he would become a manager? Straight in at the deep end there, tough scenario but probably all he could hope for as a first step into management. I will keep an eye on them.

Out of the current crop - who do you think could be a manager in future?

Anyone from past Saints squads that you think could be a manager, or became a manager and surprised you in doing so?

I saw Gary Neville on Sky yesterday saying that he often finds himself surprised by the players who do go into management.

I thought this was going to be former Saints players who went into management AFTER they quit playing.....

WOW ! there's a lot -even back into the 1930's ..but in the post Bates /McMeneny era..there is Chris Nicholl, of course ...and ..well go on ...who's next someone...:badger:.

Off the top of my head for starters ..

Kevin Keegan, Mark Hughes, Alan Ball, Ian Dowie, Dennis Wise, Mickey Adams, Dave Webb and Jimmy Melia, in the Top 2 divs.

Joe Jordan, Peter Shilton & John Macgrath in lower leagues.

Ian Baird, David Hughes, Glen Cockeril Mark Wright in non league.

Ivan Golac - scotland (Hearts or Dundee?)

Alf Ramsey, Keegan & Hughes at International level plus Tony Knapp (Iceland??)

Must be loads more - will have to have a look thru In that Number later for inspiration!!

Always thought Rickie would make a good manager, very passionate and has a good football brain.

Steven Davis is very likely to I think. He seems very intelligent and talks well, also he is an obvious leader.

I think Schneiders could have the makings of being a good manager. I can imagine his teams playing very attractive football.

Joe Jordan... in lower leagues.

Does the top division in Scotland count as lower league these days? He managed Hearts more successfully than anywhere else arguably.

Paul Tisdale and Nick Holmes would count as lower leagues though. Painer managed Cheltenham Town when they were non-league. Peter Reid.

Just a thought but maybe Brett Ormerod would make a good assistant for JB at Stanley given his past associations with the club.

Kelvin and Danny Butterfield will be in coaching/management jobs within 3 years. Both seem to know the game inside out and are personable guys too, everyone always speaks about them being great influences in the dressing room. Can also see Steven Davis getting a job in coaching when he retires as well, very disciplined and also a good leader.

Their matches v Skatesmuff could be lively, can just imagine BT's face if his team won against them, as he'll be getting a massive Scumming from the Blue Few.

Who are ya who are ya?

There will be less fans at Fratton than in that photo to abuse him, I doubt he's worried...
