This is really a tough situation.

We dont know the level of acrimony between Cortese and the Liebherr estate, and whether it can be resolved. Hopefully.

I wrote on the other thread if I had to choose between NC with other funding and the Liebherrs, I would side with NC, but there is actually something nice about the aura of benevolence around the Liebherr familys ownership that I am sure we wont have with some pushy Yank, vulgar Russian or oil-saturated sheik.

I really hope they find a way forwards together..

@kristemple: RT @willcope: My understanding is that the Liebherr children/estate have NEVER had the same belief in Cortese that their father did #saints.

Eh? But we were told they had a great relationship and that people who were told this had no proof and were talking rubbish.

I'm told the final straw was the decision to let Tommy Forecast go. The Liebherr's are worried that letting such a decorated player go (3 promotions in as many years) shows our club in a really negative way and may harm our chances of bringing in top class talent this summer. They hold NC directly responsible for this, as he made the final decision to let Tommy go, and want more say in the decision making following this high profile blunder.

Who said they had a great relationship? Nobody has even tried to speculate on the ins-and-outs of something as intensely private. Even for the mboard, some things are pretty much off limits.

He used to work on the Saint radio in the Lowe days.

It is funny all these journalists "understanding" things now that the BBC/Times have reported stuff but yesterday they probably "understood" nothing.

I will trust the BBC/Times source more than a twobob journalist.

At the end of the day, it is in the best interests of both parties to come to an arrangement. Do you really think that the Liebherrs would let Cortese walk after what he has done for them and the club? If he walks then they have to find someone with the same qualities and someone they trust. However, there is no guarantee that the new person will bring the same level of commitment and same results that Cortese has produced. The chances of the Liebherr's losing money if Cortese leaves is extremely high IMO. Same with Cortese, if he walks, he loses a very good pay packet (possibly only temporarily), his reputation goes down and has to move his kids and his family back to Switzerland / somewhere else and either find a new club / new job.

As others have said, if it ain't broke, DON'T FIX IT!

Erm yeah they did. They used evidence of him being put in a position of power at one of their companies and photos of them in the directors box as proof. I was told they weren't fans of him last year by an ex player. Of course it was dismissed as rubbish on here at the time.

Your famous "ex player" source!

You'll have to forgive people if they don't believe everything you write on here.

I don't think he will go. Markus had faith in him and he has no reason to leave. We have had a successful season as we prepare for our 2nd year back. The key was survival this year-done. Now lets build on that. Cortese knows he is a huge part of the club and personally I think it would be devastating if he left. We could end of with another Rupert Lowe and look where that got us last time. IN CORTESE WE HOPE AND TRUST.

Didn't MLT allude to something like this happening a few months ago?

I find it hard to believe this story has been leaked, obviously from the top, something very rare to come out of the club these days. Going to be an interesting few weeks now with the speculation running riot, something MP was quoted in one of the paper yesterday could also have been easily misconstrued, something like (from memory) my job is done now we are safe. In the same article he also said that what NA done before him is not his business (not exact quote) but suggested that all was not well. Is he a short term or long term appointment, certainly the political landscape has changed now we are safe.

@markreeves999 There's a blame game going on right now. Heard NC was shaking things up last week. Maybe somebody asking about him too

He has spoken to a member of the Liebherr family and knows people.

We all know people Hypo. I'm sure you even know a few people in real life as well.

Which people does this ex player know and how would an ex Southampton player have access to a member of the Liebherr family who would be happy to divulge this information? Particularly if said ex player goes off and tells people he sits next to in corporate?

Decent Being the word. What would you think if we got the chairman of Everton for example? Or Swansea?

Adam Blackmore from Solent reckons if NC left the "replacement would have to be a high calibre operator" and I agree - certainly someone better than decent, otherwise its a massive backwards step.

There is no way in hell Bill Kenwright will come here  Jesus...

It was an example of the type of proven and decent leader of a club that we could possibly go for if Cortese were to leave. Not for a moment did I suggest that we would attract Bill Kenwright. Jesus...

Chairmen do not transfer between clubs like players, or even managers.

He has a working relationship with many people who work at the club. He knows others socially and he is at the club on a weekly basis.

Because believe it or not members of the Liebherr family have attended social functions at the club and have been in boxes when the ex player has been in attendance.

I wasn't suggesting we would poach another teams chairman. I was using those as examples of successful chairman who are currently in football. I didn't think it was difficult to understand.
