I have it on good authority that Cortese has been away on business the last two weeks tying up deals for players. Italy and Spain. And it was a successful mission. He's not going anywhere.

I also know what the kit is for next season, home and away. All I'll say is home kit won't go down well but I like it; away kit was a big surprise and not sure if I like it or not!!

Interesting, all I would add is that he was working to a five year plan as agreed with Marcus, of which we are a year ahead of the game; bottom line none of us will know the answer to this until the end of the month and not before, in the meantime we can second guess until then.

It's a wind-up from GS.

I know - hence the :suspicious:

Like you I know he's full of ****

Try not to post though. He's probably still counting the number of your posts that are directly and indirectly related to him.

This is nothing more than an old fashioned power struggle that NC uncharacteristically has decided to make public. Chances are he will get his way (if common sense prevails and the Liebherr family fully appreciate what he has done over the last 4 years).

Ever since Marcus's death the family must have regarded SFC as something to be put to one side but thanks to NC we have now become quite an asset - no wonder they want to reassert themselves.

It's been great having rich owners but I always said it could/would end in tears, I just would have hoped we could have had a bit more glory especially as we survived the tricky first season.

Odd how his contract situation has only just come out now. If Cortese leaves, I think the Liebherr's will try and sell up.

Without reading the thread in full yet, I jsut want to say I hope Cortese doesn't go, because surely the Liebherr's money will go with him. I like the club where it is, and we were all set to have an interesting summer of transfer activity. If he goes, who knows where the club will end up. Yes we're in the Prem, with all the new TV money that goes with it, and thanks to Markus the debts are largely paid off, but I wonder where this step leads us, if in fact, it does actually happen.

Mr Le Tissier is a bit touchy this evening......quite the conversationalist with me on twitter earlier.....became very quiet after a few searching questions though.

i love the guy,but he really doesn't like Cortese,such a shame.

but he entered into the conversation,so he had the option not to comment.

If NC goes the Liebherrs will replace him. End of. No big deal.

If the Liebherrs want to sell the club they will sell the club whatever Cortese says or does. Personally I think Cortese is a bit of a loose cannon and it would be a good idea for the Liebherrs to get in a new man to take us to the next level.

Would probably be friendlier and more open if you actually met him and asked questions rather than on twitter.

Well that seems to make things clearer as to why there's the speculation now.

Natural break, so there's bound to be negotiation.

The breaking of this news could put pressure on the Liebherr estate to keep Cortese in charge, depending on whether there was a ground swell of support for him.

So, if Cortese gets a good reception at the Stoke game then it is likely to persuade the Liebherrs to keep him on and/or persuade Cortese himself that he is wanted by the fans.... Seems simple enough...

TBH I think it may have been that UTS coming across as a complete tool that did it, what were you trying to achieve though ? Both dont like each other, both have done a lot for saints, not really a need to stir it further

What are Tom28's credentials exactly?? Possibility of a WUM?

Don't need to be Sherlock to at least have an idea.

It's all about the money.

Reading that Echo article I stand by my original opinion. Everything is true but is not what it seems.

NC's contract is up after 4 years.

Until Saturday we COULD have been relegated, so NOBODY in their right mind, on EITHER side would have set out to negotiate a NEW contract without knowing what the probable Financial Plan for the club would be. The new riches from the new TV deal or selling the family silver to pay contracts we cannot afford in the Championship (even WITH the PP's)

So his comment (if it was made) is true, he has no agreement on his contract. The family would likely have had two versions ready to offer him, and IF we had gone down his pride would have made him walk as a failure anyway.

Today was the first POSSIBLE day lawyers could have even STARTED work on a new deal.

I'm now more chilled, it's a negotiation and NC has obviously been signing that Spanish RB & Astori.

Then it's about waiting to see whether we get Lukaku or Bentecke in.

Tony Evans, the Times writer who broke the story just said Saints fans should be worried. Said he rates Cortese very highly and so do some other club owners - clearly he won't be left unemployed for long.

Also says for him to stay there would need to be a significant change and losing Cortese would be a massive blow to Saints.

Because it doesn't revert back to stripes, possibly?

Away kit? Doesn't matter; we never wear it.

No ****.

Chill, just reporting what he said.

Also says he would be very optimistic about our future if Cortese stays as have a decent budget for summer and European ambitions but says owners are 'flaky' and he suspects ownera heirs have taken bad advice. Cortese just wants stability.

Seems NC just wants to know the owners will back him to get on with it.

Oh do shut up you have no more idea whats going on than anyone else. You are just twisting the "story" to fit your own pathetic agenda.

I only have one concern here.

Nicola Cortese has always claimed that he wants Saints to be a self sustaining going concern. If this is about investment funds to push forward then that statement is somewhat redundant.

Cortese has always been ambitious, he wants success, a raised profile for Southampton... and therefore his reputation being viewed in glowing terms. He needs money to do it and we havn't got the funds ourselves. Equally Markus' estate now see us as an asset and may be looking for control, when things are going well people will come out of the woodwork and want to be a part of things.... where were they directly after Markus' death?

This is a game. Sit back and try to enjoy the view. At least the family do not want to sell us on this basis.
