shurlock Posted 12 May, 2013 Share Posted 12 May, 2013 Who has advertised his "X-factor" in the transfer market? Certainly not the club and his background has been centred around developing youngsters. As far as I'm aware, we still operate with a transfer committee so it will be a collective effort and responsibility to attract players. Other than former Espanyol players, which players would be attracted by Pochettino alone? Compared to the speccy scouser in the ill-fitting M&S suit. Cortese's preference is for 'sexy' signings, so its hard to believe he didn't factor in MP's 'pulling power' when deciding to hire MP. Would say that MP's reputation is higher on the continent than it is here (where our recruitment efforts will be focused) -and he was sold not just as a nurturer of young talent but also as one of Europe's bright, upcoming managers (it also probably helps that he was former international). Clearly transfers are a collective effort undertaken by the transfer committee; but the manager is always a selling point, whoever does the pitching. Of course, going into the next transfer window, its not just the manager that has changed but also our league status. While we're not yet an established prem team, we're no longer a newly promoted team, an unknown proposition, as much of a risk for a player worried about playing long-term, top-flight football. SaintBobby Posted 13 May, 2013 Share Posted 13 May, 2013 I think we are playing better than we were under Adkins, but the results haven't obviously been much better, frustratingly. A lot hangs on the transfer window, as many have said. We're an 10th-18th sort of side without any new signings, but can definitely aim to the high end of that or even a bit higher if we sign 3 or 4 quality players. egg Posted 13 May, 2013 Share Posted 13 May, 2013 (edited) Short answer is yes. We give teams much more to think about. Someone said we have no plan b. That's nonsense. We didn't under Adkins, but do now. Last weeks formation was different to the previous week, ie a different plan. We also defended slightly deeper in that game. Yesterday changes were made and both changes were involved in the goal. Results will improve after a full pre season, and a couple of signings to help give a cutting edge. egg Posted 13 May, 2013 Share Posted 13 May, 2013 Someone posted this on the Sunderland build up thread: http://www.eplindex.com/31750/tottenham-1-southampton-0-indepth-tactical-analysis.html It's a bit heavy but it analyses our tactics comprehensively, and explains the changes we made to nullify spurs for most of the game.
