The9 Posted 12 May, 2013 Share Posted 12 May, 2013 Stoke leading Spurs 1-0 early on, which would mean we'd have to beat Sunderland and then them next week to have any chance of coming 10th. Also, Watford v Leicester in Championship Play-Off semi is 1-1 on the day with Leicester 2-1 up on aggregate.
SaintBobby Posted 12 May, 2013 Share Posted 12 May, 2013 If Stoke win or draw against Spurs, Arsenal can effectively guarantee a CL spot if they beat Wigan on Tuesday.
S-Clarke Posted 12 May, 2013 Share Posted 12 May, 2013 Massive game for Spurs, if they lose this Arsenal can confirm 4th with a win on Tuesday - big incentive for Arsenal there as well! Amazing how tight the bottom half is, a few weeks ago Stoke were dead in the water. Now they're 10th.

Amazing how tight the bottom half is, a few weeks ago Stoke were dead in the water. Now they're 10th. Too true. Been staggeringly close from halfway to 18th and in the race for 3rd and 4th. Oddly though, it's just about possible that all these important issues will be resolved before kick off on the last day of the season.

Torrent Of Abuse Posted 12 May, 2013 Share Posted 12 May, 2013 I suppose that if Spurs win and Arsenal lose (worst case I know) at least it means both sides will be going into their last games v Newcastle and Sunderland wanting points. We may have two tough games against sides fighting relegation with us but it's just as well that the other sides around us still have games against teams with reasons to keep fighting too. Badger Posted 12 May, 2013 Share Posted 12 May, 2013 Watford look quality. Be pleased if they come up. Mostly because I expect they might take up one of the relegation slots next year. Not that I should be concerned about this of course. We all know we'll be chasing European football at the other end of the table.
Minsk Posted 12 May, 2013 Share Posted 12 May, 2013 Am I right that Watford wouldn't be allowed as many loan players from Udinese if they do make it to the Premiership? I think I heard something along those lines too. Half-time: Stoke 1 Spuds 1 Stoke have had Begovic, Huth and Adam booked. Would be nice if one or two of them got another yellow in the second half. SaintBobby Posted 12 May, 2013 Share Posted 12 May, 2013 Well, after that breathless Watford game, just a reminder of what we want from today's other games: Stoke v Spurs. (currently 1-1) Spurs win. To keep the pressure on Arsenal to win on Tuesday and give us a good chance of leapfrogging Stoke. Everton v West Ham. Everton win. Means we may still have a chance of catching West Ham (although not much of one) Fulham v Liverpool. Liverpool win and preferable by a cricket score. Gives us a good chance of catching Fulham. Norwich v West Brom. West Brom win. Would mean Norwich having to beat Man City away to catch us. QPR v Newcastle. QPR win. Would mean Newcastle having to beat Arsenal at home to catch us. Man Utd v Swansea (4pm). Irrelevant to us.

The9 Posted 12 May, 2013 Author Share Posted 12 May, 2013 Knockaert = Kermorgant? Nah, Kermorgant chipped a pen in a shootout and wanted hanging for it, Knockaert lamped a decent pen down the middle and Almunia dived and barely got a toe on it - the second save was the unbelievable one, I don't think he was even looking and he was sort of on one knee at the time with what seemed to be no chance of recovering in time. Torrent Of Abuse Posted 12 May, 2013 Share Posted 12 May, 2013 Tbh, that's not ideal. We want both Spurs and Arsenal to keep winning, I think. That's what I mean - of course I want Arsenal to win so we can breathe easier but I'm just saying that even if an awful set of results came through, we still get a lifeline through other games going to the wire. I'd hate to see a rival playing QPR on the last day for instance. I'm happy that Spurs are still chasing Arsenal so they know they can't let up. If they were 3 points clear and on good goal difference they could lose to Wigan and still finish above Spurs. We all want them to keep pushing it. Win v Wigan is ideal. Draw acceptable. The game v Sunderland worries me. Just too many memories of old Saints I guess. Still, if we could come away with the result we got in 96/97(?) when we won up @ Roker... Barry Sanchez Posted 12 May, 2013 Share Posted 12 May, 2013 Staying up by default is hardly inspiring, this team will be good in a year or so but we need or needed quality old heads, if we stay up the players I think we should llok to break the beank for are players like Kole Toure or Lescott, that is a real statement of intent. Badger Posted 12 May, 2013 Share Posted 12 May, 2013 One of their games is against Villa, who are below us. One of them has to drop points. But Villa are already on 40pts, one more than us. We have another 45 minutes to reach that yet, no guarantee. Because if they do, and we draw today, Villa would finish below us. As you say, if we draw today, but if not then we could still fall in to the bottom three, especially if we continue our goal drought next weekend.
