Jesus Gamez...

Recommended Posts

No need to panic. According to Nixon we are looking for

"@reluctantnicko: Defender or two. Midfield strong man."

Only a year too late but the right approach

I'd also look to try and find a younger version of Rickie somewhere

It'll mean we have 3 Premier League quality fullbacks to rotate rather than 2 plus Fox/Richardson (who are Championship level).

Clyne and Gamez can compete for right back and if Shaw for example was injured, Clyne could play left back and Gamez right back. That is better than having to use Fox.

*awaits biting remark and Mr Men put down*

Stop being paranoid MLG, you haven't said anything wrong in this post, even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Graham Hunter (Sky Sports Spanish expert) said about Gamez:

"He has all the equipment to succeed, although I didn't know it was happening. Tough, genuinely gets up and down, defender who can attack not a converted winger. Experienced."

Sounds excellent and similar to Zabaleta who has been great for Man City. Just don't see how this fits with Clyne. If they're both fit for the majority of the season we'd have a problem keeping either happy.

Yeah, if it does turn out to be true it would be interesting. Perhaps they feel Clyne is also able to play LB and essentially it gives you three good full backs to pick from. Afterall, the games Fox has played this season (must be a fair few even since Shaw emerged) we have had a reduced quality of team. You have to allow for injuris, suspensions and even be able to rest people.

But definitely interesting on the face of it as Clyne has been very good and MP has always praised him.

Perhaps, and hope I'm wrong, the club expect Clyne to want to move back to London.

More likely its strength in depth, and Clyne gives cover at LB as well. Alternatively as someone else refers to above MP is seeking a change in formation, with wing backs and this Jesus fellow is a more accustomed to it, or can play right sided centre back, or sweeper ?

I hope he's not another Fox? Completely undermines Nat Clyne's position and confidence, just what he and we need going into two vital games...

Nice one Tino! 9/10 for idiocy.

Shall we all learn Spanish - "Hoof que fuera del campo, idiota!"

A bit of an overreaction. It is just press speculation - not direct quotes from the management stating that Clyne is not good enough ffs! I don't think he is that precious either tbh.

I'm sure he is exactly another Fox, seeing as he is the captain of a team in the QFs of the Champions League.

I doubt that is true at all. We aren't exactly miles away from London are we? He could probably live there and still play for Saints, as plenty have done in reverse.

Strength in depth is a very hard balance to get. Unless you're playing into the late stages of the domestic cups, as well as European football, it would be very difficult to give players in their prime the amount of game time they want. Otherwise for strength in depth you would want younger up and coming players who are happy to dip in and out and gradually learn their trade as cover for a more experienced player or players coming towards the end of their career, but can still do a job when called upon and are great around the squad - that approach to squad management is one of the key's to Man Utd's success under Ferguson, as oppossed to some of the other higher spending rivals that have had problems with large squads.

Can't see why this chap would play centre back if one of his key selling points is getting up and down the line or why playing as a wing-back would be a problem for Clyne, apart from his fairly poor crossing. Will be interesting to see how it pans out.

Or maybe there is more to this rumour, dating back to March, than we thought?

Chelsea have Azpiliqueta, and Clyne is the sort of player who wants to play every week.

He's superb and our club won't want to sell him unless for stupid money.

A lot of fans know we need some kind of back up for the full back positions, so no surprise we're after another RB.

Ignore Charlie, he's just an Arsenal supporting, WUM, co.ck jockey.

Clyne is already (in a season or so) lined up for a top 4 club from what I've been told and I've no reason to doubt the validity of that info'.

That'll be us next season then

Just analysed that game and thought he was vey poor defensively, got forward without end result and based on today wouldny want him in ahead of Clyne. Rakatic, minus the finishing, looked good, but I would love to see kondogbia and negrado here if at all possible. Sevilla play an almost identical style to us, kondogbia plays the schneiderlin role and negrado is a handful but has some pace too. They press and insist on playing out from the keeper. I like them and they have some quality players adept to our system to slot straight in.

This rumour has sprung up again

http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/southampton-target-jesus-gamez-transfer-1899854

Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino will spend some of the £30million treasure chest promised to him by chairman Nicola Cortese this summer on Malaga defender Jesus Gamez.

Pochettino is anxious to bolster a Saints defence which had conceded 59 goals before yesterday's match with Stoke.

Gamez, 28, is a former Spanish under 23 international while Pochettino's search for defenders has also taken in Ecuadorian international Frickson Erazo of Barcelona SC.

The former Espanyol manager also has been looking at Victor Ruiz and Victor Wanyama as part of his hopes to strengthen the South Coast outfit in the off-season.
