Jesus Gamez...

Recommended Posts

To be fair if the report suggests we're looking at him then I wouldn't read too much into it. We're monitoring around 100 players and we'll sign around 4/5 players this summer (some not immediately for the first team) so I wouldn't conclude anything other than the quality of player we're looking at more than position etc.

I think we already have a Jesus at the club so this would make it a 2nd, other than Oslund have we had any other religious names before?

Quite a few apostles.

LUKE Shaw

MATTHEW Le Tissler

Stern JOHN

PAUL Allen

PETER Rodrigues

MARK Dennis

Jimmy GABRIEL, no archangel on the pitch though

Says the Roger Hargreaves enthusiast that stalks me on these forums...

When you are consistently shown up to be clueless and you have to resort to Leaping on a predictive text error on a thread you arent even involved in this far, its time to bow out Mr Wrong, its getting embarassing for you.

Clyne might actually be better suited doing a Bale and moving up to midfield imo.

I'm inclined to agree. He's a very good fullback but I think would a very effective wide midfielder.

Clyne would also be great LB cover for Shaw.

Signing another good RB gives good options and cover.

What would this mean for Clyne? We ain't going to pay £5m for a reserve full back.

Exactly my thought. Though Clyne and Shaw could do with some competition. It's a tough decision as beyond these 2, there is very little quality in our squad, but I can't really see us signing anyone thats that good if they know they're not going to play.

I reckon he could do a job at LB.

Shaw probably shouldn't be playing everygame at his age, so having someone else that is adequate at FB (Fox just isn't) might be a good thing. Who knows, maybe Jesus can do a job at LB too if needed?

I definitely feel a decent versatile FB should be a priority this summer.

It'll mean we have 3 Premier League quality fullbacks to rotate rather than 2 plus Fox/Richardson (who are Championship level).

Clyne and Gamez can compete for right back and if Shaw for example was injured, Clyne could play left back and Gamez right back. That is better than having to use Fox.

Its a squad game now and as you progress further up the Premier League the expectations of players to play every game decreases, especially if you have a good squad. Even Rooney at Manure is on the bench on a regular basis, where as he would be a permanent fixture in a lower premier league side. If we are realistically wanting to challenge in a few years we are going to need to buy replacements for the 25 player squad that are as good if not better than the core of the current first team main players.

Agree with this entirely, it provides back up for both positions and adds a bit of competition which fox does not offer despite starting a couple too many times

Nixon saying we have spoken to Malaga and deal is close.

Nixon: A big strong boy. Defender. Maybe u see a different formation or new way of playing Clyne. But this guy is deffo a live one.

He also mentioned that perhaps we were looking at playing 3 CBs next season but it was only his opinion. Clyne and Shaw as wing backs would be immense and we have no wingers anyway so could suit...

Also said he sees us spending a fair bit...

He's a top, top player by the way. He's a Zabeleta style full back.

I like Clyne and think he's been top notch, but we're clearly losing Richardson in the summer and we need proper competition back there. No harm in this what so ever. Squad depth is something which has been shown up this year, so if we're boosting the ranks at this level already, then that's a good sign.

Good player, a bit odd for me that he is 28 and I thought we were preferring younger players to come in.

But on the other hand, for me this would point to Cortese and MP wanting to move forward faster and because of that I think we might spend £40m in this summer....

He is an existing CL fullback so buy a few more players of that type of level and t can't hurt.

Good to (potentially) see early business too.

I understand the sentiment here, but reality is that IF we are serious about pushing on to top half or better we need 2 Premier League quality options per position. And Richardson and Fox don't fit the bill.

So I'd expect/hope for some signings this summer in positions where we don't have a crisis, but we absolutely need competition for places. And one of those is Lambert, an absolute legend, but not irreplaceable as he moves through his 30s....

FFS, why are the club prioritising a right back when we should be signing a CB??
