Saint Charlie Posted 8 May, 2013 Posted 8 May, 2013 Our rise through the leagues has seen us linked with a number of players, some good and some truely awful. This thread is for the ones that got away. Name: Tom Craddock Position: Striker Job he could have done: Fired in the goals to win us promotion from L1 if he signed from Luton. Job he has done: Scored some goals for Oxford in L2. Regret Factor: 1/10
Saint Charlie Posted 8 May, 2013 Author Posted 8 May, 2013 Name: Brian Howard Position: Midfielder Job he could have done: Given us some leadership and guile in midfield alongside Schneiderlin who is useless. Championed by those that know his brother (or something). Job he has done: Injury prone journeyman pro, spell at P*mpey Regret Factor: 2/10
Batman Posted 8 May, 2013 Posted 8 May, 2013 Will never forgive Matt piper all those years ago. If only This era, Chris Lines!!
Saint_clark Posted 8 May, 2013 Posted 8 May, 2013 Brian Stock, George Donnelly, that CB that went to Millwall.
SuperSAINT Posted 8 May, 2013 Posted 8 May, 2013 Wern't we always linked with Neil Mellor every transfer window?
ericofarabia Posted 8 May, 2013 Posted 8 May, 2013 Somebody has to I guess .... Michael Owen What are we going to talk about each transfer window now that he's retiring.
Olallana Posted 8 May, 2013 Posted 8 May, 2013 I know what name the first troll visiting this thread will mention....
Saint Charlie Posted 8 May, 2013 Author Posted 8 May, 2013 Ruud Knol would have improved us defensively I must say.
Turkish Posted 8 May, 2013 Posted 8 May, 2013 Michael Antonio - had the four qualities to make him a Saints fans favourite. Pace and being young, hungry and therefore guaranteed to improve. We were told he was excellent, far better than Puncheon and a future Premier league star. People ignored the fact that despite Have those 4 all important qualities he had little else. Last seen fight a championship relegation battle with Sheffild Wednesday.
Saint_clark Posted 8 May, 2013 Posted 8 May, 2013 Ruud Knol would have improved us defensively I must say. That was way before our rise through the leagues.
Saint Charlie Posted 8 May, 2013 Author Posted 8 May, 2013 I know what name the first troll visiting this thread will mention.... Chucho Benitez who used to be at Birmingham?
Saint Charlie Posted 8 May, 2013 Author Posted 8 May, 2013 That was way before our rise through the leagues. True, but he still would improve us now. His career path is quite similar to Hooiveld's.
pingwing Posted 8 May, 2013 Posted 8 May, 2013 Alexander Büttner - quicker and better than fox, could have given Lallana some competition, in reality shines the boots and gets a few cup/meaningless games at United because of agent fees.
Saint_clark Posted 8 May, 2013 Posted 8 May, 2013 Alexander Büttner - quicker and better than fox, could have given Lallana some competition, in reality shines the boots and gets a few cup/meaningless games at United because of agent fees. Give him time. He wasn't brought in as a direct replacement to Evra, but an understudy.
Saint Charlie Posted 8 May, 2013 Author Posted 8 May, 2013 Inigo Calderon has done ok at Brighton although lost his first choice status at RB once they got promoted. Top guy though, won the PFA FL Community Award and is doing a triathlon in the summer for a Sussex Childrens Hospice. http://www.northstandchat.com/showthread.php?278092-Inigo-Calderon-doing-triathlon-for-Chestnut-Tree-House-Childrens-Hospice
Saint Charlie Posted 8 May, 2013 Author Posted 8 May, 2013 Scott Dann - the CB we had to have despite being completely and utterly s*ite.
Smirking_Saint Posted 8 May, 2013 Posted 8 May, 2013 Michael Antonio - had the four qualities to make him a Saints fans favourite. Beat me to the punch, doesnt look like my prediction of a low to mid championship player at best was all that far away then ??!? Can he still just run ? And is he still technically not good enough ? Other players Elliot Ward ?
Saint Charlie Posted 8 May, 2013 Author Posted 8 May, 2013 This lad would have been the best player the Championship has ever seen and worth breaking the bank for. In reality, he is poor and has been loaned out to half the Championship in the last couple of seasons.
Saint Garrett Posted 8 May, 2013 Posted 8 May, 2013 Michael Antonio - had the four qualities to make him a Saints fans favourite. He was and always will be sh!t.
St. Neil Posted 8 May, 2013 Posted 8 May, 2013 Liam Fontaine just relegated with Bristol City missed out there.
Saint Garrett Posted 8 May, 2013 Posted 8 May, 2013 Dale Stephens? Bignall? Who was that centre back who was announced we'd signed, for us to pull the plug on it?
UpweySaint Posted 8 May, 2013 Posted 8 May, 2013 Trotter was always meant to be a done deal. I Liked him, not sure how he would have progressed with us but would have been an interesting player to have. Not sure he'l still be on the radar next year but would not be surprised to see him in the prem next season with somebody. "Regret factor" 5/10. Not worht crying over but could'v been a decent player this year.
Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 8 May, 2013 Posted 8 May, 2013 Dale Stephens? Bignall? Who was that centre back who was announced we'd signed, for us to pull the plug on it? Elliott Ward.
Batman Posted 8 May, 2013 Posted 8 May, 2013 im sure Purse was going to sign for us in the NOC with redknapp?
Turkish Posted 8 May, 2013 Posted 8 May, 2013 Beat me to the punch, doesnt look like my prediction of a low to mid championship player at best was all that far away then ??!? Can he still just run ? And is he still technically not good enough ? Other players Elliot Ward ? Which was mine as well Bessie. I don't think the guarenteed improvement has happened yet, last I saw him he still had pace but his crossing was still as accurate and constant as a SKUD missile.
Turkish Posted 8 May, 2013 Posted 8 May, 2013 He was and always will be sh!t. Bit harsh, he was okay when he was with us, but that was his level. Some people seemed to think he was going to be a world beater for some reason though, which seemed to be based on nothing more than being young and fast
Wadge Posted 8 May, 2013 Posted 8 May, 2013 Nicky Maynard was meant to be worth 5 million, lucky we missed out on him. Although he has made it to the premier league.
Smirking_Saint Posted 8 May, 2013 Posted 8 May, 2013 Nicky Maynard was meant to be worth 5 million, lucky we missed out on him. Although he has made it to the premier league. Isnt he somewhere else now ? NPC ? Cardiff maybe ?
Turkish Posted 8 May, 2013 Posted 8 May, 2013 Isnt he somewhere else now ? NPC ? Cardiff maybe ? Yeah he scored their injury time pen against Hull, been injured for a lot of the season though.
Smirking_Saint Posted 8 May, 2013 Posted 8 May, 2013 I always thought he looked ok TBF I must admit I think I said that Id rather have him the Sharp at the time of Billy's signing but glad to be proven wrong on that one
Saint Garrett Posted 8 May, 2013 Posted 8 May, 2013 Bit harsh, he was okay when he was with us, but that was his level. Some people seemed to think he was going to be a world beater for some reason though, which seemed to be based on nothing more than being young and fast Just like De Ridder, Whats the point in being able to run fast down the wing, if your cross goes over the back of the goal every time. Ok impact player to come off the bench, but thats it.
ericofarabia Posted 8 May, 2013 Posted 8 May, 2013 Whatever happened to Papa Waigo? Not sure if you are on a wind up, but he is down in Abu Dhabi playing for Al Wahda, who are about mid table. He has scored a few goals for them this season.
melmacian_saint Posted 8 May, 2013 Posted 8 May, 2013 Give him time. He wasn't brought in as a direct replacement to Evra, but an understudy. Speaking of, how unlikely would he be as a loan signing next year? To get ready to replace Evra and all...
CWD Posted 8 May, 2013 Posted 8 May, 2013 Curtis Davies and Kasper Schmeichel - Jury still out for me. Always linked with a PL move, usually to newly promoted teams, but rarely anything concrete. Davies most recently linked with a move to Hull. As good as people say, or is Championship their level?
UpweySaint Posted 8 May, 2013 Posted 8 May, 2013 Speaking of, how unlikely would he be as a loan signing next year? To get ready to replace Evra and all... Fancy Utd to have Baines should Moyes take over...
ericofarabia Posted 8 May, 2013 Posted 8 May, 2013 Lucas JukeBox who went to Boro, Sam Vokes Burnley ? , Drew Surman and Brian Howard - all based on the fact they they support Saints rather than how good they were!!
UpweySaint Posted 8 May, 2013 Posted 8 May, 2013 Curtis Davies and Kasper Schmeichel - Jury still out for me. Always linked with a PL move, usually to newly promoted teams, but rarely anything concrete. Davies most recently linked with a move to Hull. As good as people say, or is Championship their level? I think, hope, Davies may finally have a chance to prove himself in the prem next term with all the nonsense going on at birmingham. You may be right that he may have found his level but i'd sure like to find out!
Suhari Posted 8 May, 2013 Posted 8 May, 2013 Marvin Sordell? Weren't we meant to be after him for around £4M? Next great English striker hope and all that. Hmmmmm...
mulletsaint Posted 8 May, 2013 Posted 8 May, 2013 David Norris. I seem to remember people being rather upset at us losing out on him to Leicester. Since rocked up at Leeds via our plummeting neighbours.
Turkish Posted 8 May, 2013 Posted 8 May, 2013 Lucas JukeBox who went to Boro, Sam Vokes Burnley ? , Drew Surman and Brian Howard - all based on the fact they they support Saints rather than how good they were!! Add Wade Elliott and Brian Stock to that list as well. Stock was meant to be a real marque signing in 2010. Dare I say it, a real statement of intent.
Appy Posted 8 May, 2013 Posted 8 May, 2013 Scott Arfield, "lost out" on him to Huddersfield, he has just been released.
Batman Posted 8 May, 2013 Posted 8 May, 2013 How clever you all look with your hindsight. that was what Alpine was saying after swansea winning last night
Window Cleaner Posted 8 May, 2013 Posted 8 May, 2013 How clever you all look with your hindsight. it's just a light hearted thread. Most of these players were never good enough (or even considered) for Saints anyway, just selected because of their CM statistics.
Window Cleaner Posted 8 May, 2013 Posted 8 May, 2013 that was what Alpine was saying after swansea winning last night didn't need the gift of hindsight to realise that Wigan with a cup final on Saturday and a rag tag and bobtail defence might not be able to beat Swansea who are a very solid side. Swansea "still like Martinez" they said, however Martinez is history to them now, few players would have been there when he was manager and Laudrup certainly wouldn't give a toss.
dubai_phil Posted 8 May, 2013 Posted 8 May, 2013 Not sure if you are on a wind up, but he is down in Abu Dhabi playing for Al Wahda, who are about mid table. He has scored a few goals for them this season. Who me? Wind up?
Dark Munster Posted 8 May, 2013 Posted 8 May, 2013 Oliver Bierhoff Rudi Skacel - has he signed yet? Michu - oops, sorry, wrong fred.
