Jonnyboy Posted 7 May, 2013 Share Posted 7 May, 2013 Is it just me or have we had very few Goal of the Month contenders this season compared to other teams? I can think few of very few Saints goals that have been long range or really sublime bits of skill.

Olallana Posted 7 May, 2013 Share Posted 7 May, 2013 Skill? Clyne home against Aston Villa? JRod against Chelsea? Davis against Man C away, the counterattack? Morgan against Liverpool? Gaston against QPR was a bit skillful....
Jonnyboy Posted 7 May, 2013 Author Share Posted 7 May, 2013 How many MotD GotM nominees have we had? I can't remember one out of what, 90?
Olallana Posted 7 May, 2013 Share Posted 7 May, 2013 Those kind of competitions are almost only looking at long range shots IMO which I dont rate in the same way as goals with neat passing, but that´s me.

I can think few of very few Saints goals that have been long range or really sublime bits of skill. That's because they usually underrate multiple passing moves with simple finishes in favour of long range shots. Rodriguez against Chelsea was a superb goal. DuncanRG Posted 7 May, 2013 Share Posted 7 May, 2013 We've scored some great goals from passing moves but we don't shoot from distance, so tend not to score that kind of 'screamer'.
Jonnyboy Posted 7 May, 2013 Author Share Posted 7 May, 2013 Agree with all that. Would be nice to score a long ranger now and then. was expecting Gaston to chip in with a few but all his efforts have been dire.
Clunge Posted 7 May, 2013 Share Posted 7 May, 2013 Tap ins and worldies count as the same thing, I'd be more then happy with either

Jonnyboy Posted 7 May, 2013 Author Share Posted 7 May, 2013 Some youtube nerd needs to make a highlights compilation of this season and put all the tap ins and worldies in a montage with cool music.
Berkshire Saint Posted 7 May, 2013 Share Posted 7 May, 2013 How many MotD GotM nominees have we had? I can't remember one out of what, 90? Pretty sure Puncheon's against Chelsea and Lambert's free kick also against Chelsea were nominated. Puncheon's at QPR might have been as well. Take your general point though, we tend to concede more long rangers than we score and that's been the case since about 2010 probably.
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 7 May, 2013 Share Posted 7 May, 2013 Get what you are saying, and yeah it would be nice to get a few more screamers. But as has been said, we tend to play possession football, looking for the pass, rather than long range efforts. This can be frustrating as hell, as it has been more than once this season. However, seeing as these rarely go in, I'm happy for us to keep possession, rather than give it away cheaply. Though work on possession, particularly in the final third, could be done. Olallana Posted 7 May, 2013 Share Posted 7 May, 2013 Is Gaston the closest to a long range screamer with his nutmeg and shot against Fulham away in the last minutes??
The9 Posted 7 May, 2013 Share Posted 7 May, 2013 I'd like the word "worldie" to be banned, it is almost as horrendous as coloured boots. And why yes, I am now in my 40s.

As it is not a real word technically it is banned if correct grammar is being used. HTBH
SNSUN Posted 7 May, 2013 Share Posted 7 May, 2013 I would like our midfield to score more goals than they do, especially Lallana who's made his name as a goalscoring midfielder really, but Puncheon's goal against Chelsea in Adkins' last game does stick in the memory. I'm surprised Punch isn't getting more of a look in at present.
