"Tancredi Palmeri‏@tancredipalmeri6m

Southampton's Gaston Ramirez has been contacted by Fiorentina, according to Sky Italy"

Dont see it happening myself unless it was more then we bought him for.

still think he needs to a job here just needs time.

other peoples thoughts?

GRs poor performance has been a contributory factor to our low finish. I would stick with him though for another season, however if someone matched his fee and the money facilitated a shovel ready player then I wouldn't be too bothered. He will haunt us though in a CL semi one day.

Now I admit to being naive on this but isnt this whats's called "tapping up"?

Talking to a contracted player without his clubs permission, which often leads to players handing in transfer requests/going on strikes etc to force moves, is surely against the rules and I cant imagine NC would stand for it ...

Either im wrong or perhaps, just for speculations sake, he does have permission to speak to clubs in Italy ..

Why does a player need a whole season to adjust...... Used to be 3-4 games

When was it ever 3-4 games? Which foreign player was that said about? It's kind of an established precedent that many players dont show their best form until their second season in the prem ... should that be Gaston or not is a whole different discussion.

The Ramirez "issue" will be resolved when our dearth of striking options is addressed. Which if Cortese's claims of looking for a European place are to be believed, is likely to be sooner rather than later.

Can't say I'd care if he left. He's only really had three good games that stand out since being here (Villa, Everton and Newcastle at home), can't really remember him putting in a decent away performance.

Fitness levels are appalling as well, would be interesting to see how many times he's made it past the 60 minute mark when starting the game.

It's fair enough that he has to adapt to the league, but the concerning thing for me is that there has been no improvements over the season. All is well and good saying he will come good next season, but to me that's just wishful thinking.

I'd love to see him live up to the hype. But so be it if we sell him, we can purchase better players for the price we paid.

we wont see the best of Ramirez till we get a striker with pace who likes to play on the shoulder of defenders. think of rodriguez in the cup against chelsea where puncheon threaded a pass through to put him 1v1 vs cech, that never would have happened with lambert as the lone striker, lamberts and ramirezs games just don't compliment each other. i would like to see ramirez given a run in the team with mayuka, rodriguez or maybe even a new pacy purchase played in front of him

Mata and Silva both did.

I'd have been delighted if Ramirez had gotten anywhere near the levels that Silva and Mata reached in their first seasons here.

Silva scored 6 goals and made 15 assists in his first season, 2010-11. He also earned three consecutive Manchester City Player of the Month awards from October to December 2010.

Mata scored 12 goals with 20 assists in his first season 2011-12.

By contrast, ramirez has 5 goals and 2 assists. Sorry, but there's no comparison for me. Silva and Mata have settled and progressed onwards from that point too, but I can't agree they needed a season to adjust. And like I say, if Ramirez had hit those sorts of numbers all round this would be an entirely different discussion.

Cortese is a business man and will want to sell him for a profit and most probably try to get another player and hopefully more successful who plays in a similar position. But I would love him to stay and see if he can develop and if not sell him next season. I think he is a player who we have had glimpses of talent with his touch and passes, eg: Aston Villa his dummy pass v Reading. Ohhhh Gaston Ramirez!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D

Comparing with Silva is a bit daft cause when he came to Man C it was his 6th year at the highest level.

And for the sake of, he had 4 goals and 8 assists in the league.

For Mata his first year in Chelsea was his 5th year at highest level.

6 goals, 16 assists in the league. In a top top team you will of course have more assists.

For Gaston this is his 3rd year at highest level, and his first year he only started 16 games so he is more new to this level than those other two were.

In comparison 5 goals, 3 assists are not THAT bad in a team that also has been struggling and when he´s been out for injuries and other stuff.

EVERY year of experience at this level matters, much more than the age on a player IMO.

Michu, yes bargain of the year. Hats off to Swansea and Laudrup for bringing him in. He has a lot of experience though but from lower leagues so maybe people should compare him rather with Rickie Lambert than with Gaston....

Wait and see what the squad looks like at the start of next season before we say he doesn't fit in. I've also heard a few mumblings about him playing deeper in the future as he does for Uruguay at times. We'd need to be a far stronger side for him to be able to do that but perhaps that gives you an indication of what the club will get up to in the summer transfer wise.

Everywhere in the footballing world except this forum sees Gaston as a top talent and a player well worth having in your team, so it's not really surprising that other clubs are interested in him.

You might think I'm mad... But I'd predict a solid second season for Gaston.... And a more difficult second season for Michu... As teams work out how to play 'em. Next year I'd rather have Gaston than Michu... I'd keep him..

I take it you don't remember how we signed him?

I'd be happy to keep him, do enjoy watching him play when he's on form. However, wouldn't be the end of the world if he did move on - there is an opportunity cost there of £12m worth of other talent that we could currently have on our books. My biggest concern isn't that he has the occasional poor game, that can happen to anyone, more that he's never been able to come close to completing 90 mins of football for us. Is he athletic enough to play for Pochettino?

He hasn't sold the club yet, and he'd make a massive profit on that.

he doesn't own the club, he is paid employee and can only sell the club is the owners say so. Players on the other hand can be sold if HE wants them to be.
