Stayed at the Hyatt regency in sharm a couple of times. Hotel in nice and food is good. October will be nice time to go. Snorkelling off their pontoon is amazing - they have a great house reef

If you want a bit of history, you can fly down to Luxor for a day and go to the valley of the kings and Karnak. Alternatively, if into diving, there is probably no better place on earth to do it.

Why does a sleep-all-day vampire care about the sunshine? ;)

Oh, and if you hate all-inclusive and the Dominican Republic, ffs avoid Cuba like the plague.

Florida?

I wouldn't...

Morocco?

Agreed. I went to Egypt 2 years ago in October, just wanted a couple of cheap weeks of sun, didn't rate it at all. Been to Morocco twice, once to Agadir and once to Marrakech, both were in October Novemeber time and rate them, decent places. Weather was decent in Agadir in October, about 28 degrees most days. We went to Marrakech for a week in Nov, great place, but in all honesty you don't need a week there. Best to do it as a two day trip from Agadir so you get the beach resort as well.

Israel. Weather still good either on the Med or Red Sea.

People tend to overlook Israel as a tourist destination, but it really is a fantastic place.

If you base yourself in Tel-Aviv you can take in in trips to Jerusalem, Dead Sea, Galilee etc.

Tel-Aviv is a great, cosmopolitan city with a great nightlife. Rio Ferdinand is a regular visitor and is alleged to have bought a place there, although I'm not sure that is a recommendation.

If you fancy the Red Sea, I'd avoid Sharm el Sheikh like the plague and go to Eilat. Great beach resort, but you can make trips into the Negev Desert, and across the borders into Egypt, but even better, into Jordan to go to Petra.

People think Israel is a dangerous place, but it's safer than a lot of Middle Eastern countries. Israel is a European-facing country in the Middle East, and unlike some countries, is strongly pro-Western.

If you are the type, you can easily spend two weeks on the beach, but if you like to see historic sights, you couldn't get any more historic than Jerusalem. Even if you are not religious, can't fail to be fascinated by all the sights associated with all the major religions.

Can only comment really from my trips to both places as a child. Egypt (Cairo, Luxor) is a fascinating place but not sure it's particularly safe or stable right now is it?

Morocco on the other hand is probably a bit calmer and there are some great cities I remember, Fez and it's medina for one. Marrakesh obviously and then beach resorts to the west.

We spent a day there recently from Haifa on a cruise and were very impressed. We did a trip to Nazareth & Galilee. Very green and nothing at all like Life of Brian. You're right, very European in style.

Dubai,

would be ok cooling down after the summer kids in school plus lots of shopping for you if you need the air conditioning

She'd be welcome here.

Just make sure you don't catch this strange new Brit affliction of Jumping off High Rise buildings while on the plane.

Beach resorts are very heavily guarded (Sharm Hurghada etc) but loonies still get through, Cairo? I won't send my staff there at the moment let alone suggest tourists go.

The whole area around Israel (and Jordan) needs to be watched VERY carefully, the Syria situation is starting to spread. It was not widely reported but 10 days ago in Iraq there was a major incident in the north near Irbil with Govt forces allegedly shooting up to 200 protestors linked to an overspill from Damscus. It caused a major Trade Show to end early and Damascus Saint spent a very worried 8 hours in the "safer" confiens of the airport with all the other delegates rather than wait in their hotels for flights out.

Contagion is the worry. And that means the Iranians getting involved, especially as now the UN seem to be showing that it was the REBELS who have used Chemical weapons

Jordan SHOULD be safe but the Israelis need to be a bit more sensitive with their rocket attacks into Syria as it will lead to a response sooner rather than later. The issue would not be instability in Jordan more a major flood of people trying to get out through there and possible flight issues. But if you are driving you can always run across a border to get out

I would strongly recommend Egypt!

Went year before last in December and the weather was 25+ every day (would be even warmer in Oct). Stayed in Luxor. Everything was cheap, especially if you barter down. You do get a lot of hassle from people peddling their goods and services but that's all part of the char,m!

I don't doubt it's a nice place but if I ever read "safer than a lot of Middle Eastern countries" on a holiday brochure it would be a bit off-putting.
