I'm flitting between anxious, wet willy and composed and cocksure...

That's right. One minute I'm worried about the situation, the next minute I'm telling myself that it's fine, we're OK and we've come out of far worse scrapes than this before. In fact, I'm chastising myself for even thinking that we'll go through the trap door, having held it together and lived through many "great escapes" whilst we were at The Dell.

My question is... how are you feeling? I understand there's plenty of threads on the permutations and possibilities but how's your nerves holding up? Are you bothered, confident, worried?

At the moment, I can't make up my mind what I am, but I'll be a whole lot more worried if Wigan beat Swansea on Tuesday.

So, yeah... how's you?:scared:

I'm obsessed. Genuinely struggled to sleep last night.

Feel so much more nervous than previous relegation scraps.

I'd tend to agree with that. I don't know why I feel more nervous... we've been in more perilous situations before and it's not bothered me. I wonder if it's because we've felt relegation before and because it saw a huge, downward spiral in our fortunes - coupled with the fact it's bloody hard to get out of the Championship anyway, I don't know.

Could it be the importance of consolidating in the Prem and picking up that huge increase in money next year? Or maybe it's because we've actually been quite good this year (better than a lot of the rubbish down there) but we've let ourselves down at such important times (losing leads etc) that it'll feel a huge injustice to go down on the last day?

Gah, I don't know. Right now, I'm scared. Tuesday, if things go bady, I'll be terrified.

C'mon, someone's bound to tell me to pull myself together....

look at it this way.

Had we watched Norwich play like we did at Spurs, we would predicting they would pick up a couple of points

surely, we are playing well enough to get 1 more points against sunderland and stoke. You could not ask for better last 2 games from the random selection that it was

Pull yourself together Crabby!!!

I am feeling pretty okay. As you say, we have been in far worse situations and pulled through. I certainly wouldn't want to swap places (and fixtures) with Wigan, Newcastle or Norwich; or, unless they win tomorrow, Sunderland. Heck, I would even rather have our last 2 fixtures than those of Fulham and Villa.

I am feeling the same as 4 weeks ago. People have caught up with the way I was thinking, that is, never take things for granted in football.

We were always in a fight until we were mathematically safe. I never believed the 'we are safe' brigade. I have been right and now an avalanche of people have acknowledged my wisdom, just like they did over the 2004 debacle.

Bullish bell end here. Fexsake if we go down after playing the quality football we've been playing for virtually 3 quarters of the season it will be a total travesty. Makes me so angry we are still in any sort of difficulty.

I don't think we're going down. I haven't thought we were since we got 3 points clear early in the new year, (with the exception of the few weeks it took to understand that MP was going to be capable).

I do appreciate that my cavalier complacency is putting the whole club at risk though.

When I work it all out I am fine but agreed I am very nervous. We never have a run of the mill mid table finish.

I bet we end up wondering what we were ever worried about come the end of the season.

We did for 2 yrs under Strachan but you are basically correct - it always seems such hard work, even in the promotion yrs. Just 2 more points (which we were SECONDS away from deservedly getting against Wigan) and the cigars would be out. Instead it's another nerve jangler. Actually very ****ed off about it.

Keep the faith,Lungs! I honestly (putting my saints hat aside for a moment) believe that Sunderland will struggle to get another point without Sessegnon and Fletcher. Even more so if Morgan returns. We just have to hope for a stoke win tomorrow, so they are in beach mode on the last day.

I think it's because for quite a while now it's appeared that we are safe. But we've always been quite close to the bottom three, although being around 12th for the past few weeks, we've not been too far off in terms of actual points. Two losses can put you right back in it which has happened. Think we were all expecting to lose to spurs, but losing to WBA was a bit of a shock, especially the way it was done. I've had a feeling for a while it would come down to the final game at stoke.

still neutral about the situation. not safe enough to feel confident yet not exactly free falling to feel worried. had the spurs game down as a loss so, nothing much has changed regarding how I feel about our survival. next week is important though, lose that and I'll fall straight into panic mode. not bothered about sunderlands game against stoke or wigan'a against Swansea, rather focus on getting the points ourselves than to depend on other teams failing...

How do I feel? I don't care. If we stay up, great. If we go down (and I don't think we will), oh well. There'll still be football next season no matter what league we are in.

Actually you're right who gives a ****. Hopefully Pochettino and the boys have the same approach.

If we did happen to go down, (and personally I just don't see that happening,) then I seriously doubt that Pochettino will have anything to say about it next season. At least, not as manager of SFC.

We had plenty in the nineties/2000s in seasons under Ball/Dave Jones/Hoddle/Gray/Strachan/Sturrock.

How old are you Fry? Genuinely interested, I always had you down as an old bustard but the above suggests possibly not that old.

I think we will get a point at Blunderland and beat Stoke at home so we will be ok, we never do it the easy way though.

I'm still cocksure. We will stay up......Props though to the people who said we we not safe a couple of weeks ago though. They will be enjoying the elongated suspense and the minor vindication.

I'm one of those mate, not bothered about any of the vindications ect, just want us to stay up. Only said we weren't safe as anyone can beat anyone on the day, look at Bradford getting to wembely this season and saints never do things the easy way, never.

Using your own logic surely you are not right until such time as we are mathamatically relegated!

Not. I'm older than that and I do not define myself thus! The general tone of your posts invokes images of some sort of cyber Meldrew. He was funny, so no offence meant.

I think the problem this time around - which makes everyone more nervous than the Great Escape days - is that we can all see something really good around the corner. A good team that will undoubtedly be strengthened by really good signings in the summer has given us all BELIEF. During the bad old days we were happy just to survive, but now there is expectation of a really bright future. Relegation will destroy it all. It's like waiting for a new bike at Christmas, and then some thief nicks it the night before. I'm very nervous, a state which I haven't been in before.

Right I am feeling fairly confident for the following reasons- even if we don't get another point, there is a good chance that Norwich and QPR might not win next week. If either of them lose or draw then I think they will finish below us as they have tough last games that I can't see them winning. Failing that, as long as Wigan lose to Arsenal and Villa to Chelsea, then they will both be going into the game needing a win to be sure of staying up and in fact Wigan could leapfrog villa if they beat them, so a villa win or even a draw would keep us up on GD.

Resigned to the inevitable.

I thought we were safe, but a bit nervous, until Saturday; but now Wigan are drawing rabbits out of their arses, and we have forgotten how to score with so many of the team playing under par, I think we will go down.

I could never have guessed.

I could never have guessed.

As I wrote, I looked at the number of points we had and the remaining fixtures, and couldnt realy genuinely see how the results would conspire to put us down. But a little nagging doubt remained because, after all, we are Saints and never do things easily. Then losing 3-0 at home to WestBrom, and then watching Wigan beat them away, has for me really raised the alarm.

Not for you ? Bizarre.

It's football, different teams beat other teams, we beat Man City at home, who Wigan lost to at home, same with Chelsea.

It isn't bizarre him thinking that, it's his opinion.

Its not just him; I find all those saying "we are safe" and sneering at those of us who are worried, to have taken leave of their senses. If they can sneer at us, we are entitled to also find their opinions to be b*ll*cks.

Its called DISAGREEING. Yes, the discussion could possibly progress in more respectful tones, but that goes for BOTH sides of the argument.
