dubai_phil Posted 5 May, 2013 Share Posted 5 May, 2013 OK so we know he is the player TSW loves to hate. Yesterday when I saw the team even I thought we would be in for a footballing lesson. But, I think yesterday Guly stepped up to the mark, he wasn't perfect, but while he was on the pitch we looked the better side. So, just want to say. Well done Guly, good game son, hope the injury isn't serious because I think on this performance he cdajfu in the last two games

Good match, and we seemed to struggle as soon as he went off.
DuncanRG Posted 5 May, 2013 Share Posted 5 May, 2013 He's performed well all season. Very useful player and I'd be sad to see him go. Doesn't have any attacking spark anymore but he defends far better than any of our other wide players and is sound in possession - exactly what you need away at places like Tottenham. You could tell we lost a handle on the midfield a little bit when he went off.

Stepgar Posted 5 May, 2013 Share Posted 5 May, 2013 Seeing as Guly has barley played this season he should be full of energy and commitment. The danger is a player can lose their touch etc. I thought he played well. Fair play fella.
Berkshire Saint Posted 5 May, 2013 Share Posted 5 May, 2013 He's been fine in most of the games he's started in this season, including yesterday. Not the attacking threat he was in the lower leagues but does a job. Gets very tedious when fans expect him to do the work of about 3 players when he does play though! Still heard him getting abuse whenever a Spurs player had the audacity to have the ball within about twenty yards of him!
pingwing Posted 5 May, 2013 Share Posted 5 May, 2013 He was pretty good, funny to watch Spurs stand off him in the first half for him to dribble and bit and look surprised he didn't have to beat anyone... He's done well when he's been called upon this year, shame he missed that chance against Stoke really.

Indeed, when he plays it suddenly becomes his job to close down every single player on the pitch.
ericb Posted 5 May, 2013 Share Posted 5 May, 2013 Thought he was very good yesterday, and him going off made a big difference. God knows why they didn't bother to try and tackle him when he moved forward but he definitely looked more comfortable with having so much space. Mowgli Posted 5 May, 2013 Share Posted 5 May, 2013 People think of Guly as a goalscorer which he was but more of a creative midfielder role these days. So long as you are not relying on him to score goals he does a really good job. Top drawer yesterday though his tackles lack a bit of timing sometimes and he was lucky not to get a yellow I thought. Spurs definitely breathed a collective sigh of relief when he went off.
ant Posted 5 May, 2013 Share Posted 5 May, 2013 We missed Guly defensively after his substitution, he was doing a job and doing it well. As others have said, he doesn't offer an awful lot going forwards but on the day neither did any of our lot really.
Lord Duckhunter Posted 5 May, 2013 Share Posted 5 May, 2013 I felt that Bale should have been shown down the line a bit before the goal and not be allowed to come onto his left foot. The way Guly was playing defensively he may have made it a bit more awkward for him. He did give away quite a few fouls and I have a feeling he would have clumsily stopped Bale by giving away a free kick (admittedly in a dangerous position). Overall after the lack of match time, Guly played really well. Had Gaston put in a performance like that after weeks out, some posters would be creaming their pants. Minsk Posted 5 May, 2013 Share Posted 5 May, 2013 He was ok, tidy enough but what did he do that was so great? No one said he was; he did, however, put in a decent shift before he was forced off. We were also poorer in midfield after that event.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 5 May, 2013 Share Posted 5 May, 2013 He was ok, tidy enough but what did he do that was so great? ALWAYS_SFC Posted 5 May, 2013 Share Posted 5 May, 2013 Why do people bother trying to have a reasonable discussion about Guly? It will always be swamped with idiots with an agenda against him who will post with no rational consideration for the actual performance given because they accept being wrong...bit sad tbh

toe_punt Posted 5 May, 2013 Share Posted 5 May, 2013 Most of you Guly apologists must have listened to the game on the radio. Guly can not weight a pass properly. Either too soft or too strong. The majority of the time he attempted to tackle he lost his balance or fell over. He was awful. You will not win the Nobel Peace Prize for supporting the only non skilled Brazilian on the planet no matter how hard you try to outdo each other with unwarranted praise. I am not a big Guly fan but I have to say that he was probably our MOTM up until he got crocked. That's not just my opinion, but that of the others around me also. In fact, it was when he went off that we started to wobble a wee bit. To say he "was awful" just advertises your own blinkered attitude methinks - or it just means you weren't actually watching. He was being called man of the match by several commentators and pundits who as far as I know do not post on here before he went off. Seems to be common theme apart from you. Even Glasgow has given some qualified praise, well not really but then Glasgow has a bit of a thing about Guly. Don't mind people having a go when he plays badly, but those who claim he is awful when he is our best player on the pitch need to take a long, hard look at themselves and ask if they actually know what they are talking about. There are many, many Brazilians by the way who are hopeless at football, not all are superstars.
