Excellent again today in defence and attack. I would say definitely our best summer signing and has got better and better this season.

Was unlucky with his shot which he struck well but great to have a full back who gets into those areas.

One vital tackle on Bale second half and aside from away at Arsenal I am struggling to think of a game where he has been dominated by a winger.

Seeing him up against Walker I know who is better...and its not Walker.

Walker is still a quality player but really impressed with Clyne.

Needs more time at this level to prove himself to those beyond soton though most likely.

Thanks for a positive amongst all the negativity.

Agree and he will only improve.

Well he is young and hungry so improvement is certain.

Yeah hes already significantly better than Walker, don't tell him though as we he'll want to play for england and he'll have to play for spurs or liverpool before getting called up...

Today he was class and unlucky not to score.

he's had a fabulous season, but he's far from the complete player. I'm just glad we finally, after years and years without it, we have pace in both fullback positions. It makes such a huge difference. YOu have to have ability on the ball and positional sense, but without that oace you drop deep and invite pressure.

Rather like Glen Johnson he's decent going forward but, despite noticeably improving over the course of the season, he's still worries me when I see him one-on-one against a nimble forward. I think most PL clubs are happy now to trade some defensive cover for full backs who can get forward well.

So a promising young player who (unlike some higher profile signings of ours) actually looks good value for money. However talk of a international call-up seems premature for me.

He's a better defender than Johnson - the criticism of Clyne before he came to us is that he didn't go forward enough. Outside the box very forwards get the better of him -probably because he can trust his pace and be quite aggressive; closer to goal, in and around the box, his positional game needs work.

Let's not forget that in order to press, our midfield gets quite narrow which does our fullbacks no favours.

I'm not a fan of Johnson, and I don't want to moan at our own players as we have some on here that seem to love doing that week in week out, but don't think for one minute that Clyne is beyond a mistake defensively himself. Clyne's errors aren't highlighted like they would if he had an England shirt on.

I don't think he's beyond a mistake - in open field, he's good defensively.

Around the box, he has to work on his game -perhaps because what he relies on in other parts of the pitch -aggression and quick recovery- work less well. Sometimes he overcompensates, standing off players and letting them inside.

Or wander up to the halfway line and forget to come back ala Fox!

Clyne's been one of our most consistent performers this season. He's still got a mistake in him but he's secure on the ball, good at timing his passes and defends very well.

3 - which is significantly better than Shaw's 0!

Lambert 8

Rodriguez 8

Puncheon 6

Lallana 5

Ramirez 4

Clyne 3

Fonte, Guly 2

Fox, Cork, Schneiderlin, Davis, Mayuka 1

He's been very good for us, but his crossing isn't good enough for me. How many assists has he got this year?

Yep. Crosses are often scuffed and with not much pace on them. Only assist that springs to mind was for Lambert's goal at Chelsea. If he had Richardson's crossing ability on top of the rest of his game...well he wouldn't be playing for us!

Can't wait to see him and Shaw playing every week next season trying ti outdo each other with assists and maybe goals.

To be fair, his cross for Puncheon's goal at Chelsea got chalked off for a little touch by Ramirez.

I agree. Clyne has been very good this season.

Whilst I have rarely given him MoM (which he was for us yesterday) he always comes close to it.

The most consistent player if you ask me, only Boruc can compete and he's not played half the games.

Agree - his attacking game especially has really improved in the second half of the season.

Best signing of the season, without a doubt. If he stays fit, he really should go to Brazil next summer. But then there's Hodgson to convince.

Very consistent, a very comfortable premier league full back. Very much like a right sided Ashley Cole in the way he plays. Let's hope he keeps away from mobile phones and the like though.

He's class. Growing in confidence as the season has gone on. Only criticism of him is he never properly whips in crosses. Just hangs them up. Same can be said about a lot of our side though tbf.

Will be a regular in the England squad if he carries on next season. Been wonderful this year though.

Walker is the better player at the moment, he is the only one I see displacing him. Watch Hodgson pick Johnson though

Johnson was absolutely abysmal at St Mary's. and has been for many games this season. Yet, a constant shoe-in

TBF I have always thought he was pretty abject in a liverpool shirt but he did have a decent tourney at the Euros.

Though unlike some I do understand the reasons why you would pick players from the bigger clubs, just saying that it is a big boys club is short sighted, there are reasons.

That said, I dont see why their shouldnt be a smattering of talent from other clubs, esp in friendlies and Clyne and cork should be in there

Strange to see us linked with Jesus Gamez.

Either we have a shedload more money than any of us thought, or MP has a different idea of priorities than most of us.

The other option - surely it couldn't be this - is that the Mirror is talking our of its arse. Again.

Evra and Rafael are miles ahead of the rest. Clichy and Zabaleta, Cole and Ivanovic, Davies and Rangel not bad either.

I meant you must be crazy for agreeing with me! Never mind....... :)

Have we got that success/fail list for the papers running yet ?

Excellent signing (c£2m?) and a great season.

Oddly, although this is really for a different thread, very few of our pricey transfer signings made a huge impact this season. (£12m Ramirez, £4m Mayuka, £4m Forren, £3m Yoshida, £7m J-Rod?).

Am NOT saying all these players have been useless - not at all. But we got more out of our existing squad than these c.£30m worth of signings.

Clyne is the standout exception - pretty cheap and utterly exceptional value for money from start to end.
