Saint Garrett Posted 4 May, 2013 Posted 4 May, 2013 Whatever happened to premier league grounds? There's not one ground I've been to this season which the home fans can be prou d of their support. Spurs today....utter ****. Don't hear them til hey scored but our fans done us proud today. Outsung them all game. I am sure 5000 fans at Rochdale would give those Spurs fans a beating today. Is it just the prem or is it just the way the footballing world is these days. I know our support isn't amazing at home, but at least we make an effort for the first 20 minutes...!!!
View From The Top Posted 4 May, 2013 Posted 4 May, 2013 It's one of the reasons I really don't care about being in the PL.
Saint Charlie Posted 4 May, 2013 Posted 4 May, 2013 Considering the importance of the game the Spurs suport was laughable. Joint bottom with Wigan for home support in the aways I have been to.
red&white56 Posted 4 May, 2013 Posted 4 May, 2013 I agree. Also after they scored then went silent or left early for home!
Appy Posted 4 May, 2013 Posted 4 May, 2013 Most fans just aren't up for playing little old Southampton.
adrian lord Posted 4 May, 2013 Posted 4 May, 2013 Most fans just aren't up for playing little old Southampton. I am afraid to say, that is true.
Berkshire Saint Posted 4 May, 2013 Posted 4 May, 2013 Swansea the other week were decent I thought. Spurs support today was amazingly bad, similar to Everton and Liverpool this season.
Junction 9 Posted 4 May, 2013 Posted 4 May, 2013 The Premier league exists to make money, it is a form of entertainment to watch on TV. When it comes to actually attending a game to watch live, the lower leagues were far more enjoyable IMO. I don't think the Premier league, or the clubs in it, care less about how good the atmophere is in thier grounds. Good or bad, the same amount of money is generated. As a footballing experience, a promotion push in the Championship, even an unsuccessful one, far outweighs a Premier league survival season.
pingwing Posted 4 May, 2013 Posted 4 May, 2013 I liked Spurs ground, it was amazing, right distance from the pitch, right level of banking, the works, just let down by mediocre fans who didn't make a noise till Bale woke them up...
Saint Garrett Posted 4 May, 2013 Author Posted 4 May, 2013 Swansea the other week were decent I thought. Spurs support today was amazingly bad, similar to Everton and Liverpool this season. Agree Swansea by far the best.
Barry the Badger Posted 4 May, 2013 Posted 4 May, 2013 It was bizarre when they won that throw in during their pressure period and suddenly all started going barmy. Morons.
Elias Posted 4 May, 2013 Posted 4 May, 2013 I was in with the Spurs fans, shockingly bad. Makes me laugh when the usual suspects say our support is bad, for a Premier League team our support is great.
pingwing Posted 4 May, 2013 Posted 4 May, 2013 Thought Stoke were very loud With one song that was a northern mumble about beating their wives?
DuncanRG Posted 4 May, 2013 Posted 4 May, 2013 (edited) Most fans just aren't up for playing little old Southampton. This is it really. Media coverage and club history creates a hierarchy in the PL where every week, people expect the 'big teams' to win and the 'small teams' to lose - that expectation isn't really there in the lower leagues, people are forced to think about form and the way the teams might match up. As we're a promoted club we're expected to lose every game, and the fans buy into that by patiently waiting for a 5-0 drubbing. Even established (but unfashionable) clubs are generally seen as lambs waiting for the slaughter - see Sunderland and Stoke in the next two games. If you're not declaring doomsday you probably see these teams - and any teams outside of the top 7 - as very beatable. Edited 4 May, 2013 by DuncanRG
BlakeySFC Posted 4 May, 2013 Posted 4 May, 2013 The Spurs support was non-existant today, much like Goodison Park earlier on in the season they only started singing (a bit) once they scored. Most PL away days feel more 'premium' and more about the money than the football, whereas games in the Championship/L1 you knew people were there just to watch their team play and enjoy the day. Looking forward to visiting Bolton next year in the Championship as I've never been to the Reebok before.
Sour Mash Posted 5 May, 2013 Posted 5 May, 2013 All true, but how many teams in the lower leagues actually turned out a decent atmosphere?
JRM Posted 5 May, 2013 Posted 5 May, 2013 trust me spurs can have one of this very best home atmospheres .at white hart lane , just very quiet against us today
Ewell Posted 5 May, 2013 Posted 5 May, 2013 Most fans just aren't up for playing little old Southampton. This, and particularly the so called big clubs. Their fans just expect to turn up, score a few goals and take an easy 3 points off little old Southampton at home. When this doesn't happen they start hammering there keyboards and put their phones on speed dial to 5 live and talk sport and have a good moan at why they lost, drew or only just beat little Southampton. We will never have the respect from the majority of the big clubs supporters because 90% of their fans are ignorant morons.
lordswoodsaints Posted 6 May, 2013 Posted 6 May, 2013 (edited) It's the sterile nature of football these days in general, since the 80's the passion has been slowly eroded from football, average players are paid vast amounts of money and have become complacent overpaid ponces, fans are treated like cash cows and told where to sit, what to buy and how to support and we all comply. There is no 'anger' in the support anymore......just read the 'ukip' thread to see how people on here react to 4 blokes having a laugh, imagine what their reaction would be if all of a sudden football went back in time to the 80's,they'd faint and have to have smelling salts administered the big girls blouses. Footballs policies are 'give us your money, sit down, shut up,go home via the gift shop, see you next week' and most of you like it that way. Edited 6 May, 2013 by lordswoodsaints
