PL relegation final fixtures

Bit of a lame season really. You could argue that pochettino has got us up a level playing wise but what is the use if you can't beat sides you should be. That said we can only judge him on next season. We should have finished much stronger though

Norwich fans will be bricking it. If they don't beat WBA (who we learnt is not as easy as it sounds) then their is sh!t town.

Knowing football it will be someone like Fulham who go down.

Think we'll get at least a point in the next two but I fancy 4 points with an away win at Sunderland.

I have just done the predictor (giving us a draw at Sunderland) and get it like this going into the final matches:

11. Stoke 41 -11

12. Saints 40 -11

13. Fulham 40 -13

14. Villa 40 -23

15. S'land 39 -12

16. N'wch 39 -22

17. N'cstle 39 -23

18. Wigan 38 -23

Also;

3. Arsenal 70 33

4. Chelski 69 34

5. Spuds 69 19

I would definitely take this!! Even thought he likes of Alpine, Dalek, Blakey, etc, would still predict us to go down it would mean to do so we would have to lose at home to Stoke (who would be safe) by about 14-0 whilst: Norwich would have to win away to Citeh; Sunderland would have to win away at Spuds (who would be desperate to win); Newcastle would need to beat Arsenal (who would need to win to guarantee CL next season); Wigan to beat Villa by one goal.

Of course, Wigan could get something at the Emirates - meaning Arsenal would be more desperate for points on the final day; Newcastle might beat QPR away (I predict a draw); Norwich could beat WBA (again, I predicted a draw); we could lose to Sunderland (which MIGHT, if all the other results start to go against us, be squeeky bum time going into the last week).

if it is like that in the final game, we are safe as villa/wigan play each other

This.

If we go into the Stoke game level on points with one of Villa and Wigan and a point ahead of the other, we are safe. (assuming we avoid a 13-0 defeat against Stoke or something mental)

Well, not really. If we lost 8-0 and Wigan won 7-0, that would damage Villa's GD almost as much as our own and we'd stay up.

Yes, you're right, I stand corrected. As I originally said, we would go down if Wigan won by a single goal and we lost by 14,

As an aside, with so many teams close, there must be a fair chance of at least one match on the final day having the potential as an "agreed" draw giving both teams a guarantee of what they need.

Just say it were to be us and Stoke. How would you feel if we passed the ball around aimlessly all afternoon?

I feel I should point out that Swansea managed to carve out a respectable point against Man City yesterday - a beach team would have lost that game, even if City don't have a lot to play for.

Yeah - they are also the first team to win a game without scoring a goal.

It will go to the last day, but too many on here are basing everything on the assumption we will lose both our games. If we lose to Sunderland and Stoke then there's no point us being in this league. I can see Wigan escaping, Norwich could be in the most trouble though

The big problem is that we were all becoming mentally attuned to looking up rather than down. The teams performances against West Ham and WBA in particular reflected that. We need to change that mindset and start playing like a relegation threatened team again. That is not as easy as it sounds. Recently Wigan, Villa and Sunderalnd have all shown that attitude and won crucial games. Sunderland are the classic example of what happens when they relax again (6-1 at Villa). That makes our game against them both fascinating and worrying. Which manager can get the attitude of his team right? I suspect that Di Canio will not get it wrong twice.

I don't want to be going into the Stoke game still needing something but I think that is probably going to be the reality.

For what it's worth I think Fulham are in freefall and games at home to Liverpool and away to Swansea look like a real challenge to them. We would still need to get another point to finish above them if they lose both. Despite relative positions in the table Fulham are my outside bet for relegation.

Here are my predictions for the bottom of the table matches together with my final table when I used the BBC predictor for all fixtures:

Fulham

Liverpool (H) 1-2

Swansea (A) 0-1

Villa

Chelsea (H) 1-2

Wigan (A) 1-1

Stoke

Suinderland (A) 1-2

Spurs (H) 1-2

Saints (A) 0-2

Saints

Sunderland (A) 1-1

Stoke (H) 2-0

Norwich

WBA (H) 1-1

Man City (A) 0-2

Newcastle

QPR (A) 0-0

Arsenal (H) 0-2

Sunderland

Stoke (H) 2-1

Saints (H) 1-1

Spurs (A) 0-2

Wigan

Swansea (H) 2-1

Arsenal (A) 0-2

Villa (H) 1-1

Prediction:

Of course, if we lose to Sunderland it could be a bit different, but either way, even if we lose both remaining fixtures we should still be safe - if only on goal difference! In terms of the teams who are at real risk of relegation I think it is probably too close to call between Newcastle, Norwich and Wigan....

If Newcastle beat QPR they should be safe.

If Norwich beat West Brom, they too should be safe.

This would leave Wigan needing to beat Aston Villa for safety

Incidentally, only if those three things happen and we lost both our remaining fixtures would we be anything but safe! In fact just a single draw should be enough to at least finish above Aston Villa on goal difference (unless you think Villa will get anything out of the game against Chelsea!)

Never make any assumptions in football, as Dalek rightly says.

The only assumption it is reasonable to make is that all of Wigan, Newcastle and Norwich will end up on more than 39 points.

All other assumptions are mad.

Happy, as long as in the third minute of injury time we long balled the ball up to Rickie to head in for a sneaky 1-0 win. Beat them with their own weapon.

I can't believe people thought we were safe. You only had to look at our run in to see that we had a whole load of games that we'd f*ck up. We always struggle against the teams around us. I lashed £80 on us to go down at 100-1. I'm absolutely convinced that we're down. Wigan will win their remaining fixtures, they always turn it on for the last 4 or 5 games and escape at the death. We'll lose at Sunderland and lose or draw against Stoke.

There's a very good chance you'll lose your money.
