Last two or three fixtures for every team now, defeat today and the Wigan victory right back in it means things are getting edgy once again so may as well make a new run-in list. Not going to argue over who is and isn't in trouble, just going to post every team with 40 points or less except Reading and QPR as they're down already. Post predictions below

Fulham

Liverpool (H)

Swansea (A)

Villa

Chelsea (H)

Wigan (A)

Stoke

Suinderland (A)

Spurs (H)

Saints (A)

Saints

Sunderland (A)

Stoke (H)

Norwich

WBA (H)

Man City (A)

Newcastle

QPR (A)

Arsenal (H)

Sunderland

Stoke (H)

Saints (H)

Spurs (A)

Wigan

hmmm

if wigan win on tuesday, will be massive.

I will be amazed if we went down on 39 points

Newcastle away to QPR next week is an interesting game, as well as WBA at norwich

Norwich not winning against WBA would almost seal it....

Newcastle might get something of Arsenal rather than Norwich getting anything away at City.

Just need

Wigan to not beat swansea

Norwich to not beat WBA

Newcastle to not beat QPR (they probably will)

and sunderland to not beat stoke tomorrow

surely, at least 2/4 of those can happen?

Sunderland will overtake us if they win next week whatever their result against Stoke is and I was playing the worst case scenario that we dont get any more points.

Which I think we will do though.

we've been shafted 2 weeks in a row by West Brom, playing like 1970s Brazil last week and then not turning up at home Wigan. I expect they will do the same next week, roll over and get their bellies tickled by Norwich.

Redknapp will completely f**k it up for us too, Newcastle will smash QPR.

Sunderland vs. Stoke I have no idea. Could be 7-0 either way that one.

Swansea really don't seem that interested these days, I'd bet on Wigan winning that.

so without his coaching the side to the three wins against City' date=' Scouse and Chelsea we would have been down already, strange logic[/quote']

Would have prefered wins against QPR, WIGAN, NEWCASTLE OR NORWICH than the 3 wins against MC, Liverpool, Chelsea.

Didnt get carried away after them 3 games like alot of peeps on here did.

Hopefully if Chelsea beat Villa and Wigan lose at Arsenal we'd probably need 1 more point to survive.

Norwich looking shaky but WBA is their get out of jail card. Norwich aren't great but WBA are on the beach. I'm also not counting out a draw at holiday bound City if Norwich absolutely need a point.

Newcastle's get out of jail card is QPR - screw that up and they are in big trouble. Arsenal will do them if they need to.

Sunderland's game against Stoke is a biggie. Fingers crossed Stoke do us a favour. However it could be a cursed blessing as they'd go into their game against us fighting for their lives knowing that Spurs(a) is likely to be 0 points. Big nail biter.

Wigan are looking good to escape IMO. Said that WBA was a huge game for them and they won - tails are up and IMO they'll roll over Swansea now. The only fly in the ointment is the 5 games they have got in these last 2 weeks. Hope they rock up at Villa knackered.

I'm currently leaning to Norwich\Newcastle for 3rd bottom but everything could change this time next week. We are skirting around the edge though.

Still can't believe that pathetic\lazy\complacent performance we put in against WBA, a draw would probably have been enough. If we were to snatch relegation from the jaws of safety the WBA game will be the one I'll point to.

Ok, here goes. Fulham, villa and newcastle all to lose both theirs, and Norwich either 1 or 3 points next week and nothing on the final day. I don't like predicting saints scores so I don't really have a clue for Sunderland and stoke. Could see stoke spoiling the game on Monday but I would expect a reaction from di Canio. Will be interesting for sure.

As for Wigan, was not expecting that result today but they could get any result on Tuesday and will lose to arsenal. And then I have them down as beating villa on the last day, but if they get thumped in the cup final and need a win with low morale and a depleted squad (2 injuries today) who knows. I'm going with 4 points in total, but anywhere between 0 and 6 is quite possible.

I can't see Newcastle losing to QPR or even drawing. It's about as close to a free win as you're likely to ever get. Then again... few would have called an already relegated Reading putting four past Fulham this afternoon.

TBF Reading have looked a good side since Adkins was appointed. There average 90 minute possesion stats have jumped up, as have tackles won, shots on target, passes ect ect ect

They also outplayed us for 30 minutes, were unlucky not to beat Liverpool and by all accounts were superb today

Newcastle can't win away and are under real pressure knowing its their last real opportunity for points and I think qpr will want to put in a performance on their last home game. Just a feeling.

Fourth from bottom would do me now!

Me too, as it would have at the start of the season and definitely after game 10. Just frustrating that after the Reading game we haven't really pushed on to what I thought would be a decent mid table finish.

I don't like it one bit. Depending on how their game against each other goes either one of or both of Sunderland and Stoke are going to be desperate for results against us. We are suddenly embroiled in a 2 game do or die league after many, myself included, thought we were comfortable.

The last four fixtures of this season have created a 3-game mini league with Spurs, Stoke and Sunderland (teams beginning with S)...

Spurs will come top and get CL qualification

And the loser will be in severe danger of going down.

I'd like to think that we have enough about us to get the better of at least one of Stoke or Sunderland.

Slightly nervous yes, but people are acting as if the teams below us are invincibles....we're talking about 4 teams who have won a handful of games all season to now win 2 or 3 in a row to send us down. Possible yes, but very unlikely.

Looking at the fixtures, Newcastle and Norwich are really in the shyte. Norwich can't score goals and Newcastle are badly out of form. We'll survive, but it won't be as comfortable as it looked a few weeks ago. A win at Sunderland would be MASSIVE.

Posted this on the "Are we safe" thread, but thought it might be useful here too:

If all results - ours and the teams around us - between now and the final week (week, not weekend - Arsenal v Wigan is in the final week, on the 14th May) go against us, assuming a reasonable level of goals scored and goals conceded, we would go into the last 7 days of the season (one game for all except Wigan, who have two) in 17th place, 1 point and several goals better off than Wigan.

However, bear in mind that the above includes: Villa beating Chelsea; Norwich beating WBA; Newcastle winning at QPR (they have not won in London all season); Sunderland winning against Stoke and us; Wigan beating Swansea; Stoke beating Spurs.

If you reverse each one of the results above (in the order shown, and with only that specific result being reversed), we would go into the last week:

- 17th (one point above Wigan)

- 16th (one point above both Wigan in 17th and Norwich in 18th, with a better goal difference than both - Norwich would then have to beat Man City away to go above us)

- 16th (one point above both Wigan in 17th and Newcastle in 18th with a better goal difference than both -Newcastle would have to beat Arsenal at home to go above us)

- 17th (one point above Wigan)

- 17th ( 4 points above Wigan with a better goal difference; Wigan would have to beat both Arsenal (away) and Villa (home)

- 17th (1 point above Wigan with a better goal difference)

A little crude and a little arbitrary, I know, and any combination of the above could of course happen - i.e. both Norwich and Newcastle losing for example - but it would seem to indicate that the Norwich v WBA and / or QPR v Newcastle games are key ones to watch IF the worst case scenario of us not getting another point at all were to come to pass.

All hypothetical of course, but I would say the odds are still firmly in our favour, and, most important, that our destiny - even assuming the very worst case imaginable - would still be in our hands going into the last week (assuming Arsenal beat Wigan of course....;-))

I would be prepared to say that a win a Sunderland would see us safe.

Just got to hope that Swansea get a result on Tuesday, and then I think that will be it. Wigan win, and we need a point or even better a win!

Yes, and see if the Baggies turn up at Carrow Road and get a win, because I cant see them getting anything from Man City.

I think we'll get six points from the next two games.

Sunderland will play to win which always works for us.

And by Stoke we'll be safe so it will be an exhibition of beautiful football.

hope you are right.

out of the fixture for the teams in the bottom half, we have the best ones IMO

The arrogance that was sweeping this forum a few weeks ago seems to have disappeared with lots of straw clinging replacing it, hoping other teams can do us favours. Those that said we wouldn't finish tenth were lamblasted and abused for daring to suggest we wouldn't romp to a top half finish, with 50 odd points and destroying anyone that got in our way. All those claiming that a win for the teams below us was we better for us than wins for the teams above us are looking pretty daft now as the relegation battle has tightened up. We won't go down, but amusing to see the arrogance of a few weeks ago has all but disappeared.

It's gone too far the other way now. Constant fretting about what others could do when a win at Sunderland or at home to Stoke will see us safe anyway. People seem to be forgetting that we still have 6 points to play for and unlikely to remain on 39 points so I'm not really that fussed about what others are doing. It's in our own hands.

I think you have summed it up in nutshell. Never assume anything in football, that is why it is the greatest spectacle sport on earth. Furthermore, those who have followed Saints over the years would never dare such a thing like relegation is not a possibility until mathematically certain. The 'foolhardy' are quiet today.

Is there any reason you're assuming Wigan will get at least 5 more points and Newcastle and Norwich will both get at least two more points, then?
