ALWAYS_SFC Posted 5 May, 2013 Share Posted 5 May, 2013 We are in deep sh*t. What a time to suffer a complete loss of form. Find it bizarre that some of you are still saying we are safe. The same ones of you that are making completely wrong predictions about the remaining games. Wigan will go above us. They just beat away the team that tore us a new arsehole last week. At the end of the day, if the teams around us show a bit of balls, considering our complete lack of them, we will go down. Read the highlighted bit and did not bother with the rest as that shows yet again you do not have a clue... We outplayed a top team challenging for the Champions League, teams with a "complete lack of form" do not perform like that..
DuncanRG Posted 5 May, 2013 Share Posted 5 May, 2013 We're 10th in the form table - and above both the teams we've got left to play! I'm not worried about our form, it's just about getting the right reaction again. We reacted perfectly to WBA yesterday, playing well and dominating them. On another day we could have been 2 or 3-nil up by half time. Take on this game the same way we did Spurs and we should be fine.
supersonic Posted 5 May, 2013 Share Posted 5 May, 2013 It all depends on what Saints team turn up for the last 2 games. If it's the team that played Spurs/City/Liverpool/Chelsea - we'll be fine. If it's the team that played QPR/Wigan/Norwich/WBA we'll be in trouble.
Minsk Posted 5 May, 2013 Share Posted 5 May, 2013 I always find it amusing that the post match thread is significantly longer when we lose. We played very well yesterday and really didn't deserve to lose. However, it was a wonder strike from Bale that beat us. Quite simply, had he still been a Saint we would have won that match easily. Anyway, it was a game I expected us to lose - as did most people - hence why I really don't understand all the doom and gloomers crying over it. We really do need to get something against Sunderland next week though!

S-Clarke Posted 5 May, 2013 Share Posted 5 May, 2013 Thought we played well, controlled large portions of the game, but just didn't have any sort of cutting edge. Lots of retention in places where it just didn't matter, and didn't make any difference. For all our work, the only save LLoris had to make was from a set piece. We just lack that yard of pace to get into the final third quickly. There were times when Lallana did great, but they just caught up with him within seconds as he's so slow and it's one of the reasons why he's still here and not at a big club. I thought Guly did well enough, didn't do anything wrong. The way the results have panned out over the last 2 weeks is the thing of complete nightmares. It's beyond logic. Swansea will be the most supported club in the country on Tuesday night, and if they can do us all a favour, I think we can then finally say goodbye to Wigan. As I said after the Everton game, we've definitely lost an incisiveness since Adkins has gone but arguably, we're most robust. Hmmmmm, not sure what I prefer... a tendency to ship goals but score more or the opposite...

Hmmmmm, not sure what I prefer... a tendency to ship goals but score more or the opposite... Probably a case of making the most of what we have. We could be more incisive, but our CB's clearly can't cope with pace and being exposed as they were early in the season. Best to play it safe for the remainder this year, and bring in the players next year who will make us more capable of being able to handle a more incisive game. We had three huge chances - that free kick/resulting rebound, Clyne's sitter and when Guly came down the wing in the clear but couldn't pick out Rodriguez. A better ball then and it's a tap-in

A better ball then and it's a tap-in Clyne missed a good chance, don't think it was a sitter - was very close. But other than that, we didn't really create a great deal to be honest. Played well enough, but not threatening enough in the 2nd half.
DuncanRG Posted 5 May, 2013 Share Posted 5 May, 2013 Oh I agree we should have made more of our possession, but we had more chances than the one free kick
THEVMAN Posted 5 May, 2013 Share Posted 5 May, 2013 That's fine and I know you're mates with him but he hasn't been anywhere near good enough this season. Lambert poor too recently. You know **** all about me but are completely entitled to your opinion. My only problem with you is as someone else pointed out the other day is you post **** all about AL when ever he manages to do anything half decent in your eyes but as soon as he ****s up your out posting like a rabid dog.Their just seems to be some inconsistences towards your love for him.I personally dont see any point in slagging any of our players off,we are supposed to be supporting them well thats what i thought anyway. Hmmmmm, not sure what I prefer... a tendency to ship goals but score more or the opposite... Pochettino's system requires moving the ball more quickly in the final third than any slow build up to tease an opening. The club wanted more pace and power in the final third when Adkins was Manager and that need is more pressing now. We tried for a direct winger with pace and power all summer and couldn't get one - expect that to be sorted this summer.
hasper57saint Posted 5 May, 2013 Share Posted 5 May, 2013 Our main problem yesterday was that we have no one who can shoot like Bale. When was the last time one of our players hit a screamer that actually ended up in the (oppositions) net?

That's the problem of most teams in world football, they don't have a player who can shoot like Gareth Bale.

Roger Posted 5 May, 2013 Share Posted 5 May, 2013 Thank you for that educated retort. As opposed to you using expletives! I think Lallana is great for loyalty but is increasingly looking out if his depth. I've said that lamberts been poor recently but has scored 14 goals. Think at swansea and vs west brom a degree of complacency set it.
ottery st mary Posted 5 May, 2013 Share Posted 5 May, 2013 I think Lambert, Lallana and Jay Rod......all better step up to the plate...put the blooooody ball in the net a few times these last two games. Sort it out Saints..
Stevie61163 Posted 5 May, 2013 Share Posted 5 May, 2013 so when you watched our FA Cup final of 76 Saints fans were not singing "you`ll never walk alone" ??? Saints to draw at Blunderland and win at home to Stoke leaving us safe..Why can't they get their own song? Why do they have to sing ours? I can't remember that happening years ago. Anyway, squeaky bum time.

alpine_saint Posted 6 May, 2013 Share Posted 6 May, 2013 Bottom line is that the Spurs result was more or less expected (perhaps even the scorer and the nature of the goal too). For that reason, I would have been inclined to draw a blue line under this one. But that thought was before the WBA result the week before... That result has the potential to haunt us. DuncanRG Posted 6 May, 2013 Share Posted 6 May, 2013 If we go down it won't be by more than a point or two, so in reality any result where something's gone wrong could be said to haunt us - Wigan away, Utd at home, any number of games where we've dominated but failed to get the result. But if we get relegated it will really be because of these next two games, these are the only important ones now. It's in our hands, and we'll get the results we need. alpine_saint Posted 6 May, 2013 Share Posted 6 May, 2013 There is a world of difference between momentary losses of concentration leading to dropped points (of which there a several notable examples this season) and simply not turning up for a game, as we did last week. Which is why I think that will be the one we look back upon.
DuncanRG Posted 6 May, 2013 Share Posted 6 May, 2013 We'll see how these next two go. If we play really well but somehow lose both games (unlikely!) then we can look at West Brom. If we don't show up, then we can only blame ourselves for those two performances when we knew points were needed. As it happens I think we'll play okay and get the job done.
